I have wanted to send private messages to two of the avatars who post here, only to find they don't allow that option.
If you don't allow PMs here, please explain why not. There are many times when I am glad to get a private message here and appreciate the feature greatly.

I discovered by default they are turned off when you join here. I happen to own a VB message board and that's the only reason I even noticed this and turned them on.

Me personally...I dont come here daily. I'd rather someone contact me inworld if they want to discuss a post. Easier to catch me, and easier for me to respond there.

Actually, this is the first forum I've ever been in (and I've had my share) that has PMs turned off by default. It never occurred to me this might be the case until Alyx told me.

1) I had no idea there was such a thing, and have no idea how to use it.
2) I like to post on my lunch hour at work. We're free to use the internet on our own time, but IM's just LOOK more like you're screwing around, from a distance. The VP walking by doesn't necessarily know it's my lunch time. 3) I prefer to use my in-world time for real time interaction. In this forum, I like to mull over things and check my spelling before I send anything. Maybe from home I'll check it out, although I'll just be in-world anyway. (Not that I'm assuming you were trying to IM me!) |

Yeah, at first I thought everyone I ever wanted to PM here were being pretentious and had intentionally turned them off, but I was here on an alt once and discovered her PMs were disabled by default as well. It's a bit of a pain for those of us who can't be in-world most of the day.

I/ve had mine on for weeks, and actually used them once! You can have your notification of a new PM sent to email I think, so it doesn't pop up an incredibly indiscreet window at work.

I just can't go inworld at work...more than three times a day...when the boss isn't looking...ok five times a day...I am so getting fired... My job is to research using the internet... I'm on for at least 8 hours daily, and have 6 or 7 tabs running at all times... easy for me to pop in and add my L$2. _____________________
