gesture after taking picture

So I'm fairly new to SL and just learning the camera controls to take some cool photos.

My avi makes this goofy gesture after I take a snapshot, which is fine when I am alone, but annoying when in a crowd.

I have no active gestures, made sure they were all deactivated. I have tried with my AO off and on, does the gesture both ways.

Anyone have any idea why this is happening and how I can make it stop?

Thanks!

Hi, MishelleAnne. Honestly, I'm not sure how to turn the picture-taking gesture off, but it's not just you. I think that's a built in animation that every avatar performs when taking a photo. Your avie raises her hands up and smiles, right? I'm sure there's a way to stop that, I just never needed to, I guess. Someone on the forums, though, will have the answer, if there is one.

Mishelle, if you will open your Client drop-down menu (ctrl-alt-shift-D if it's not currently showing on your toolbar), look for "Quiet Snapshots to DisK". If you will check that option that will rid you of both the goofy animation and the annoying camera noise. Have fun!

I think you can tun it off in the client menu, (quiet snapshot to disc).

What Dagmar said...

I thought the client menu command was ctrl-alt-D? Or is that just on windows?

MishelleAnne, there is a way to stop it...I did, but I can't recall how. I know it's in the "preferences" area, but not sure of the exact details. I am sure someone who is inworld will be able to help more quickly than I, but in case you don't get a response before this evening, I'll check and IM you...

You're right Sunni...Shift is unnecessary. I was punching all the buttons to make sure I knew what I was talking about before I replied. Well, gosh it worked pushing Shift too, so I still don't know what I'm talking about , lol!

I wonder if you can disable it in the Debug menu, like you can the typing gesture...anyone know?

Ooh... A linux user. (^_^)

While you're at it, check out the High Resolution Snapshots too. I use it to get pictures over 2200 pixels wide while I'm still using my 1600x1200 monitor... And no freezups yet, even in Windlight. (^_^)y

Thank you all so much for your replies!

I have checked the quiet snapshot to disk and it didn't stop it from happening. I did stop the camera sound though.

Any other ideas?

on some computers ctrl alt D will show or hide the desktop

That should do it, actually...it works for me, in any case. Have you tried relogging since you changed it?

I tried searching kb for how to stop the animation and finally resorted to live help

this is the answer I got...

Kate: Rhaorth I'm being told that going to Client and turn on "quiet snapshots to disk" also turns off the animation
Kate: then use the snapshot to disk button, not the snapshot button

So I am thinking, that they go hand in hand, quiet snapshots to disk and snapshot to disk button...

try that and see if it helps

(snapshots to disk save them to your pc, you would have to upload them to SL afterwards

Yes - you know those video tutorials that Torley Linden has on his blog? There was one recently showing how to stop the camera animations *and* stop the camera noise. The animations part was a debug setting - like stopping the typing animation - but I can't remember what one.

Unfortunately, although those video tutorials are good, I have no idea how to search for them!

I checked that last night, then when I relogged today and took a snapshot and it still did it, lol. Oh well, maybe I'm doomed to look like a dork, lol.

No sneaky photo taking for me! lol

On quick inspection, I don't see anything regarding this issue.

not sure if everyone has me on ignore or what

I contacted live help and their comment was use the quiet snapshot to disk
and the snapshot to disk button (seems they go hand in hand)
Let me know if that works ok?

yep I see that, I meant the others who still seem to be searching for the answer heh

(and I am sure some have me on mute, oh well, as long as they are not the ones I am trying to help)

not sure if sideways was trying to imply I am muted to them, or being funny
personally I do not find it funny or cute if someone rubs it in the face of another that they are muted
if this is not what sideways was doing, then please clarify...

*confused*

I think she's joking...she's quirky like that. ;)

I did think the video tutorials might be of interest to people though, even if they don't cover this particular topic.
