That's a confusing comment, as I always see the flaws better/easier with pale colored hair vs. dark color hair. The lines of the prims "joining" together and like seem to stand out a mile away with pale hair, while remaining hidden more with dark. At least as I've seen.

With alpha hair, the black color shows up certain flaws more, such as stray hairs, or texture problems like a line at the end of the transparent prim. And then, some dark shades in some stores are just funky. Other places mess up the blond shades, making them too orange or bright greenish yellow.

Well I had some seriously dastardly hair bought for 300L from a name you all would recognize. There were these big horizontal lines where prim pieces were attached like false eyelashes. I wrote to the designer and heard nothing back. That was my first major donation to the trash can.

Now today I bought a nice pair of jeans and the area on the back, which you don't see on the poster, is so weirdly light-colored between the pockets in what we'll call a "critical area" that I didn't know what I was seeing at first when I cammed...it looked like somehow my av's butt wasn't covered there. This is in contrast to the other pair of jeans from another big store that are too dark in that same area, making it look like the av had a very unfortunate gastrointestinal incident.

AND we might as well throw in the white jeans I bought yesterday from another major designer that have back pockets that are so weirdly brightened that it looks like, from the back, my av has two enormous wallets, one jammed in each pocket. I'm not going to look at that, so hello trash can. Now, to all you designers out there, what the bloody heck is it with the butts on jeans? Is it that difficult to have them match the rest of the jeans? Have some mercy geez! My av's butt is something I gotta have on my screen a lot, please don't make it a visually unnerving experience.

(Edit: I meant all that last part rhetorically. I don't actually believe I'm addressing the offenders.)

Rhonda, ty for those links. I didn't know where to find them. I'll be bookmarking them. I would like to learn how to take nicer snapshots of my av on sl.

Limonella, I would love lesser known store lms! TY!

There is some stretching of texture in the crotch and backside, thanks to the avatar mesh. This changes the texture, making the weave larger which can make things appear lighter. It's very tricky to adjust for that. Some people do manage it though.

Maybe try looking around and asking people where they bought their jeans if you see someone wearing some that you like.

Okay then. I will send you some landmarks.

Around my 3rd or 4th week in SL, I made my first Big Purchase, as dress that cost 500L, in one of the "couture" level stores. I was (and am) very happy with this dress. I had to contact the designer for a little help with the prim skirt, and she was very nice and I complimented her a lot on her work.

In that designer's same store was a gown. I wanted that gown. However I had already spent too much on the dress, so all I could do was moon over the gown. I took a snapshot of it to show people. I pondered it. The skirt part, in the ad on the wall, looked like mysterious browns with glowing embers and shifting light. I just knew this gown would be the gown to end all gowns.

Well I had pondered it long enough, and two days ago I went ahead and bought it, which meant that I was going to have two nice dresses (I can't afford to buy all of them!). I couldn't wait to try it on.

It is the ugliest thing I have ever seen (clothing-wise) in SL. It is irredeemably ugly; it's not a matter of getting it to fit right. Fitting perfectly it's still the ugliest dress I have ever seen. It somehow manages to make my skinny av look dumpy by eliminating her waist and making it look like her boobs sag low. That magical brown skirt? It looks like pale mud. The top is so awful I can't even say, "Well at least I can wear the top with jeans." No. No. I never want to see any part of this thing again.

700L.

Now, in the past I have not hesitated to contact the designer if there has been a technical issue with the outfit. But what would you do if you bought something like this and you knew the only possible thing you can do with it is throw it in the trash?

I have noticed that some designers edit it up a bit in photoshop, if I detect that in an ad I will not buy. I do not edit in PS other than cropping and putting it into a larger image. (to sidplay a few views) on a flat white background. When you see the photos that are taken in a scene type area, with various lighting it is not always as it seems. sooo be careful.

However, maybe it is worth your time to give a notecard to the creator and dont be mean or anything but tell her politly how unhappy you are with the dress, maybe just maybe she can swap it for something else?

First: WE would never say no to refund ,if you were not content with the dress you bought.
We make all textures ourselves , my partner is a RL artist (art noveau style) we work a lot with our outfits, and we want our costumers to be satiesfied.
To pimp up" a vendorpicture in photoshop is really to fool your costumer-and will get back to you at once ( to edit the photo size or take away irritating things in the background is another thing ..)
Generally we take more than 200 pics of each item, select 20 good ones and have to choose 1 for the vendor.
At x street you have better options and can add more pics so the one who is buying can see the outfit in all kinds of lightning condition, movement and so on.
I also never say no to showing dresses inworld if im online and is contacted by them.

Photos is sl: Those are always upploaded to SL in 512x512
What you can do in PSH is to change the size of the pic to 1024 x700 or something like that so it will have a more landscape format
It will uppload and open the "right size"
Zig/ ZE design
typos can be kept Im swedish lingo
