When you shop for an item on XStreet- how do you find what you are looking for? Do you sort other than the default? How specific do you get?

well first i try to see if there are free items of what i am looking for ..then look at those then will type in the item on it's own and compare the freeto the ones being sold..so if i were to look for say..elevators..
free elevator or free elevator script.. then elevator or elevator script..or script.. if i am just shopping for me and not things for a build i will just type in boots.. so mainly tools and things for building i will check out free first because there are a lot of good scriptors and people making things out there that love to do things for free.. _____________________

I think I've used Xstreet once since OnRez was killed by the Lindens. --- Has it changed at all since the take over? I rarely used it before because of the set-up/interface, and have only used it once since, so I would not be able to easily spot changes. So . . changes, any? _____________________

I use default first with my search, then refine the search then when the items are culled out and seem to be what I want, I sort by price high to low [I have no idea why lol] but I'm usually looking to find the item in-world to buy so the SLURLs are appreciated

I use a variety of methods, depending on what I am seeking. However, I also don't shop there very often. I use xstreet when I don't know where to find a specific item. Often as not, I use it just to identify a merchant's name, and get a feel for what their goods are like. If intrigued, I find their store in-world and buy there.
Usually I start with a search keyword or two, like "Japan Kimono", and let it come up by relevance. I may narrow it down a bit with more keywords, based on what I see there. Then I go newest to oldest, then by price in both directions. For each of these I'll look at the first three pages or so. Maybe more if I am seeing a lot of hits for a single maker, and want to see some other options. I usually IGNORE the "Featured" items, since those are just high-profile placement paid for by the creator of the item. I would say that less than 5% of my purchases are not done in-world. _____________________
Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

Crap was that a multi tick poll?
I usually shop low to high by price although it depends upon what I'm looking for. I never shop by relevance. |

Pretty much exactly this for me too. Looking at the merchant name is key for me. I use lots of methods (combinations of keywords and various filter settings) to browse many results. When I find something interesting, even if it isn't exactly what I am looking for, I click the merchant name and look at the whole range of what they sell. I'm looking to see how many products they have listed, how many in the category I am interested in, and the overall quality of all of their work. If that all looks interesting, then I TP to their store. _____________________

That reminded me that I used it the other day to look at a merchant's merchandise because the sim just plain would not rez. I knew where the items were. Could see blurry images, but not rezzed images. So I went on XStreet to look a their stuff. Ended up not buying anything after seeing the images. heh _____________________

Popularity and ratings, primarily. The rating is supposedly fair customer feedback (we know it's gamed, but if there's thousands of ratings, it's probably reasonably fair). Popularity is useful for certain items, or for finding well shopped vendors.
Which brings me to what I really do. Unless I'm searching for something very specific, I'll use the searches to find merchants, and then find those merchant's in-world shops. Even if it's something specific, I'll usually try to find them in-world to purchase there. A store can tell you little bit about what quality of item you're about to buy. Sometimes. _____________________

If it's something that I think is available for free (a commodity item) I sort low to high. If it is something that I believe has premium value (like a security orb, or a TP pad - I know the Mark V is free so that's the one I use but I would be willing to pay for it) I first go to the vendor shops who gave me freebies when I was first born in world, and if no joy there I sort by relevance.
Also, I do a lot of shopping at lunch time or via the web, but I just paste the URL's of the items I want to purchase into an email to myself. When I then go in world I bring up each of the url's in a browser, click on them and then take delivery over in SL. I actually don't recall having physically been in XStreetSL but I'm new here. I don't bother sorting since the search works so badly. I can't imagine how it manages to pull in so many irrelevant items.
What I do is look at the results for a few pages, then try different search terms. Usually after a few tries, I can work out the right search terms. Also, if the vendor has a store, I don't buy off xstreet. I go to the store to look at it, and buy it there. I only buy right off xstreet if there is no store or if I can't find the item in the store. I always read the reviews and forum entries about products there, and I rate what I buy. Oh, and like Nimue said, if I like a product by a vendor, I always look through all the items they sell. |

unable to answer as it all depends on what i may be looking for.
and, as much as i may be a fan of older comedy, i find myself shaking and in a cold sweat over the thought of throwing a pie as opposed to eating it... |

I don't. I hate Xstreet. I am a seller there but only because people tell me I should. ![]() Really, I do enough web-page shopping for my RL stuff. SL is my way to "get out". So, I do most of my shopping inworld even if just to get the 'feel' of being in the store. I mean... When given the opportunity to virtualize shopping in a 3D environment online, why go back to an old, flat website? (^_^)y _____________________

I had to throw pie. The way I search depends on what I am looking for, so I can't say I always search the same way.

They no longer accept check, money or wire transfer payments, only paypal and of course Lindens. And they no longer have the pay in USD option. Other thn some minor ncosmetic changes, the interface is exactly the same. _____________________

I always sort low to high prim. I'm very mean with prims. I'm using xsreet more and more as it's much easier to find what I want than via inworld Search (which is useless). But I always take the merchant's details and go to his/her store to look at and try the items. I don't buy through xstreet.

Just depends on what I am looking for. And when I do find something I like to go inworld and see if they have a store. SLURLs are great if they dont have one I look up their name.
But for the most part I do a general inquiry then sort after that sometimes by price and then sometimes new to old. Bec _____________________

I almost always sort by price - why pay more for something than I need to.
I mostly use it if to find a few stores to go look at inworld. When I wanted tuxes for the wedding, using the inworld search, I was having a hard time finding places that had tuxes with tails - so I went to XStreet. There I was able to actually see pics and descriptions of items and the go to the stores inworld. Also, it helped me narrow down stores for the bouquets as a search inworld would often take me to places that had nothing I liked or nothing in the color I wanted. I can search XStreet much faster than TPing around the grid and waiting for stores to rez and the search on XStreet seems to work a bit better than inworld. _____________________

I sort by any method that might find what I'm looking for and, if I find something, I go inworld to find where it's for sale (hopefully they gave me a slurl on XStreet or they have something in their Picks). If I can't find it I IM the creator and ask where I can get it because I never buy thru Xstreet.
