Hi In the UK we switched from BST (British Summer Time) to GMT (Grenwich Mean Time) this morning, meaning that there is an hours less difference between UK and SL time... Am I right in thinking that this hours difference will change back on Sunday 4 November when PDT changes to PST? (and is the 4th the correct date?) Just trying to get the timings right for events over the next couple of weeks Thanks Gomez

No clue. Waaaaaaay to early for me to figure that out yet lol
However, I will say that Timezones suck!!!!
I absolutely HATE trying to figure out what time it is for sections of the world when talking to friends.
We should abolish time and go to GMT the world over. No "Daylight Savings Time" or any other time-changing bs. Just one time. Get used to it and forget it.
All in favor?.....

There is a world time, I can't remember the name of it now.
What's confusing is that I don't need to add an hour to the time of posts now.

What's confusing is that I don't need to add an hour to the time of posts now. UTC - which is GMT give or take a few zillionths of a second or two or three http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utc]]]]]]] Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is a high-precision atomic time standard. UTC has uniform seconds defined by International Atomic Time (TAI), with leap seconds announced at irregular intervals to compensate for the Earth's slowing rotation and other discrepancies. Leap seconds allow UTC to closely track Universal Time (UT), a time standard based not on the uniform passage of seconds, but on the Earth's angular rotation. Time zones around the world are expressed as positive or negative offsets from UTC. Local time is UTC plus the time zone offset for that location, plus an offset (typically +1) for daylight saving time, if in effect. As the zero-point reference, UTC is also referred to as Zulu time (Z). [[[[[[[ Eh? wot? Coordinated Universal Time = UTC ??? Blame the Froggies ]]]]]]] The International Telecommunication Union wanted Coordinated Universal Time to have a single abbreviation for all languages. English speakers and French speakers each wanted the initials of their respective languages' terms to be used internationally: "CUT" for "coordinated universal time" and "TUC" for "temps universel coordonné". This resulted in the final compromise of using UTC. [[[[[[[

The meme for daylight savings in the U.S. is "Spring forward, Fall back", so on 11/4 we turn our clocks back an hour (3 AM becomes 2 AM) giving us an extra hour of sleep and shifting daylight from late afternoon to morning...so we become an hour more distant from European times (which sucks).

The fun part here in the U.S. is that the Congress may change the dates for Daylight Savings Time on us again for next year if they determine that the new dates used this year didn't result in a significant energy savings. DST would have normally ended this weekend, but there was one Senator (apparently clueless of the time the sun actually sets) who wanted it to last through Halloween for the sake of children's trick-or-treating. So instead of going door to door in the dark from 6 - 8 pm ST, they'll be going door to door in the dark from 6 - 8 pm DST.

Well, this thread answered my question this morning LOL It just occurred to me that today 'should' be daylight savings.....but I noticed my computer hadn't changed. Now I know why. So...this is because of Halloween......we're waiting til next weekend? Ok... how bizarre that a senator as used Halloween as a reason to delay daylight savings.....when in some townships and school systems in this country......kids aren't allowed to do halloween because it is somehow construed as evil/bad/anti-god/devil worshipping horsepucky. *shaking head*
So yeah.....we'll be an hour closer to you folks across the pond.....until next Sunday.

/me head explodes. yes. US and EU switch back to winter time on different days. United States: DST Ends at 2 a.m. (local time) 2007 November 4 European Union: Summertime period ends at 1 a.m. UT 2007 October 28 http://webexhibits.org/daylightsaving/b.htmlI oppose DST/summertime adjustment mandates. I feel a timekeeping / time notation system should be consistent worldwide and throughout all time. Imagine that. I think SL should use UTC with no "summertime" adjustments, rather than PST/PDT. But then again, people would complain either way. "So wait... my clock is going to change by 1 hour but SL's isn't?"

Yes, us Europeans got an extra hour last night. I did not use it for sleeping, I went to the forum cartel club Things get really confusing if you have friends in the southern hemisphere. They have daylight saving time too... And it works in the OPPOSITE direction.

All in favor?..... Wouldn't bother me since I'm close to GMT anyway . I don't think the rest of the world would appreciate things like "The sun will rise at 10pm in the morning" and "It's 10am in the evening" though, that would get very confusing . It would help if LL would standardize SLT to either PST or PDT though and do away with time-changing it. Then whenever your local clock changes you just figure out the new difference between you and SLT and you're set.

They would adjust. The time of day already has so little to do with the sunrise and sunset anyway, I imagine it would make little difference. Even when the sun hits high noon on a clear summer day, you look at your watch and it says 1pm. WTF? people wake up in the morning at all different times of day... would it make a big difference if your employer said, your workday starts at 11pm ? Its daylight out... you can see that. We all have alarm clocks that we can set to any time of day.....

What I do is just type the post an hour later which then because I'm 18 hours in the future for dylight saving normally I subtract 17 hours or add 7 hours depending on if I'm in the next day from you or the same day just earlier than you I also may add a hour if I am on daylight saving time here

Congress needs to quit messing with the time and go about actually getting real business done Well, but they seem to think part of their job is to save energy. So as the seasons change if they can fix the clocks so that we are sleeping when it is dark... From: Adz Childs They would adjust. But it wouldn't solve the problem of having to look up or figure out if it's the time of day when your friend in another part of the world is sleeping or at work.

Well, we changed to daylight savings time on the weekend, in Australia. For me, it's not so much the time that causes the problem, it's the day. Being a day in advance, i tend to arrive to functions a day early.
I live in hope that, one day, Lindens will put the day or date next to the time.
