I am unsure about the details but yes the moon is missing from one or two of the preset lighting cycles.

In fact, at least in my view, the the way the presets "fade" from one to the next is terrible. My day goes from afternoon to sunset in a threatening apocalyptic flash.

I thought those were temporary presets until the controls were handed over to the estate....

As those controls are not going to happen any time soon, maybe the presets need some cleaning up?

((nothing wrong with having fun here!! =) I would not come if these forums did not make me laugh too. Thanks btw to all that have and do make me laugh here!!))

I *think* I remember seeing it from my skyhome when I logged in yesterday, but I was running around looking at things so I changed the time of day shortly after. I'll try to remember to post if I notice it again.

(Sorry I can't help you more!)

The defaults are permanent, but there was mention of giving estate owners the ability to control the lighting on their island(s) someday. I don't know if that was a whole day cycle though, or just a single light scheme, sort of like what we can do now on our individual viewers via the Environmental Editor, but visible to anyone who visited that locale.

I find the defaults quite unflattering to avatars, so I don't use them and really couldn't tell you if there's a moon at night. *shrug*

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I'm still using an old, old viewer but I see the moon every (SL) night and watch its movements across the sky. My house is 1000m in the sky so maybe I don't have as far to look up, but when I was on the ground last night, the moon was a bright orange on the horizon. I even took a photo.

I'm certain I saw the moon yesterday because when I logged in, "%#*! It's night again. Why is it always night?" So I set my Windlight to a daylight setting and there was the moon in daytime. Pretty cool. I always hated that they have the moon coming out only at night. That's not realistic. I don't mind it being full all the time though.

[Edit: Correction. It must have stayed night, but I set the ambient light and other settings to daylight brightness.]

I just confirmed under Second Life 1.20.17. Saw the moon just fine at forced midnight. Likewise, at natural night time.

It must be really fulfilling to be so much better than everyone else.

You'll notice that the OP has a significantly lower post count than you, plus a join date that's two years later... if a less-experienced resident is having an issue with the viewer, it isn't an 'idiotic' question.

I wouldn't say it was really fulfilling being better at things than everyone else, however I do get some fulfilment so you are right in a sense.

How is the OP's post count relevant? There are people in these forums who have been here only a quarter of the amount of time as I have and have 4 times as many posts. Does this mean they are 8 times more experienced? No it doesn't. So you are talking out of your arse.

The fact that I have been here longer than the OP is not relevant either. It bears no indication of experience at all. Present some relevant data such as the amount of time the OP has spent in world since they have joined and we may be able to determine who is likely the more experienced. So talking out of your arse there again. I notice a recurring theme.

You are correct in that we should help less experienced players if they are having trouble with their viewers, however the opening post didnt reference the viewer or any related problem.

The post went as follows

From: Chief Blackhawk
Is anyone else not seeing the moon now in SL?

No reference to viewer issues, no reference to any problem, no request for help. Just an idiotic question. For all I knew the OP could have had his eyes shut or have had a bag over his head.

Ask a stupid question and you will get a stupid answer.

Porky there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers. If someone wants to know something and doesn't realise it may have to do with something else ie the viewer etc, then how are they to pose the question other than the way they understand it?

I've noticed in quite a few threads yours is the first answer received and more often than not it's a 'stupid' answer.

Maybe you could hold off on the joke answer so as not to make the person asking feel like a fool and putting them on the defensive which most certainly makes the thread take a turn for the worse.

Find a little control. Show a little respect. It's not really all that hard you know.

I understand there are those who post a question just to make trouble. Most of the time it's obvious, so go at it where they're concerned. But this particular question deserved to be taken seriously and the OP certainly did not deserve to be belittled by you.

The real idiocy here is in the above assumption. Eyes shut? A bag over the head? wow, you really think that? hmmmm.

Instead of chastizing those who dont present thier questions/concerns in a manner you can understand, the helpful reaction would be to allow someone who did understand the OP to reply. Radical concept, I know.

I never post a question because I've read the forums long enough to know that anyone with a less than 1,000 post count is going to be smacked around by a chronic antagonizer with nothing better to do.

Thanks to those of you who actually *are* funny and willing to offer up some helpful advice or answers at the same time. Its because of you I read the forums and learn a thing or two.

Have a nice day.

You obviously need to spend some more time on this forum if you are of the opinion that there are "no stupid questions"

Please back this up with evidence. Where are your links? I am interested to see how you have come to this conclusion. I have now made 888 posts on this forum as Porky Gorky. Lets ses how many threads I have ruined then?

Just mute or ignore me if you are so offended by simple jokes.

A question was posed about the moon. I made an extremely predictable joke about Uranus. This was totally out of control and very disrespectfull. Just lock me up now and throw away the key as I am obviously a menace to society

From: Bellissa Dion

The op said "Is anyone else not seeing the moon now in SL?"

I said "Maybe it's gone to visit Uranus?"

The op said "That's fine, I realize there are some under age kids in here who have always have to make comments like that. Maybe one day they will grow up.You would think someone who has been in SL as long as they have would respond with an intelligent answer."

So I did not belittle the OP for his original question about the moon. I belittled him for his complete overaction to my joke and for then disrespecting me. If someone wants to make a comment like that about me then I will retort. Just as you have reacted to my comments and chosen to retort.

Maybe we should get together and make some lovely 'retorting' babies as we obviously have so much in common.

You know I never thought of that. Could explain a LOT of the weirdness that goes on in SL. :p

What is this night setting of which you speak?

Actually, wouldn't notice if there was a moon or not, since I tend to run in midday mode whenever possible. I'll check it when I get online later, to see.

Okay, to show my 'age,' I remember a time when LL would change the sun/moon to fit a holiday. On Halloween, LL did a jack-o-lantern for the sun.

I remember the when they used to change it to an Easter Egg at easter. Thought I was having LCD flashbacks when I first saw that.
