There is quite a number of modeling agencies out there. Best is to simply do an 'all' or 'group' search for modeling agency. Check the group description on how to apply.

They will tell you what they expect of you to become one of their models. ;)
Usually a lot of L$ spent on skins, shapes, clothes etc.

Don't expect to be paid large wads of L$ for modeling. Also, the modeling industry in SL is probably one of the most 'drama' infested ones. So, make sure your skin is not just expensive, but tough too ;)

Majority of clothes makers use their own AV with skin and hair changes to model their clothes, though there are a few model agencies out there like DAB.

To be a model you need to have very good skin, lots of good hair and of course a good shape. Then there is having all the right animations including walks which you need to be able to control fluidly if doing catwalk. It is quite expensive being one from having friends who are and a lot of work often at a moments notice to run and change.

Modeling school is going to cost you anywhere between 3,000 and 10,000L, and probably more because it's recommended that you have two schools. Clothing, because the ordinary stuff won't do, is going to cost you another 5,000-10,000L easily. A few hundred poses at 50-100L each. Skins and shapes.....not just one but MANY are needed, along with hairpieces....another few thousand. Patience, perserverance, and determination are required in large amounts. It's a cutthroat business, and you need to be ready at the drop of a hat to run off to an audition.

Good luck :)

I spent an afternoon looking around modeling agencies and didn't find a single one that explained how to apply, except for the 'modeling schools' that wanted to change me an extortionate amount of money to train me to be a model.

First and last impression was that the industry was made up of two types of company. Those that have a group of models and don't need anymore tyvm and those that just want to scam you for lots of cash.

If anyone knows of any decent agencies out there please post and prove me wrong :)

Well I would have expected to find those two categories at the minimum -- this is SL after all. Additionally, I would expect the legit modeling jobs to be very limited in number compared with the number of people wanting them -- therefore if I was a model, I very likely might not volunteer too much information about where/how to do it to a new person trying to break into the field.

I think most people just model themselves or get their friends to model.

The whole Idea you would PAY someone to get a Modeling Job seems like a scam.

Modeling School? To learn what Exactly? How to walk down a runway during lag?

To stand still while they take your picture?

Standing still while a picture's taken can be a problem if you're using an off-the-peg AO, and the workaround might not be obvious to everyone. The other possibility is teaching how to build a background and frame snapshots.

Its Modeling School not Photography school.

And it doesn't take 3000L to teach someone how to turn their AO off and Alt Click a reference so their head doesn't wander.

Oooh Colette, you are giving away all the secrets now . . .

Pep (wonders if Colette's alt is a model and wants to deter competition)

I've been in a couple of store groups where the owner will just ask their customers if someone wants to model or they ask for pictures of you wearing one of their dresses or hair.

You need a really nice skin, eyes, shape, hair, prim lashes, maybe some jewelry and shoes to help complete any outfit they give you.

I would try sending a notecard to any store owner I see that might need a nice model for their clothes. I mean every creator needs to make ads and vendor displays and not all of them have the greatest avatar out there. You could offer to work for just the clothes. Don't try to force them on something they don't need at the time but just let them know you're available. Build up a nice portfolio. More store owners will see you as a legitimate working model.

I do my own ad layouts but fashion show? NO WAY! I would rather hire someone. Someone with some runway experience and with enough fashion savvy to put on my dress and immediately pull out the right skin, shape, hair and jewelry (from their inventory) to go with it. Someone with enough professionalism that I can hand them the dress and make arrangements 2 weeks ahead of time, and know they will be there on time and ready to go.

(Thanks Honey!!)

i've asked few modeling school in SL. well most of them is handling catwalk models. so they teach you stuff on
- knowledge about the fashion world in SL
- handling yourself during fashion shows.
- what need to be done a.k.a total makeovers.
- styling
- how to handle the runway
- photoshot for your portfolio

I know a few school will help on getting the job after you 'graduate'. by the way, I haven't heard modeling school fees reaching 10000L. The most I found is 8000L. Try to check out their place before you sign up. There's two so far that I know has their own website. From there you can check their reputation based on the client they have and the fashion shows that they did. This way you won't get scam.

well basic things that you can do by yourself without signing up with modeling school is
- buying nice skin
- have bundles of hairstyle
- make sure you have portfolio with you

even without signing up to any modeling school you need to be prepared with $3000 L - 5000 L just to get the basic things done.

I should hope so.

If models actually spend this kind of L$s to become a model, it's difficult to see it as anything other than a vanity profession: a way to recoup some of the high cost of creating an extensive inventory of very pricey avatar enhancements.

I wonder, though, if these modeling schools provide supplies--at least their own custom runway animations. If not, running a modeling school seems vastly more lucrative than being a model.

What also surprises me is the apparent importance of runway fashion shows. I knew they existed, but considering the limitations of SL audience size, and the huge delays in downloading textures in a crowded setting, I'm surprised they're popular with either designers or the public. Especially with ultra-high-ARC models, I'm amazed anybody sees anything at all of the clothing.

I wonder what the tricks are to make runway shows work. Site them high in the sky, far away from any build textures, and across four sim corners? Get the models to pre-bake in another sim and TP into view well in advance of each walk? Delay the show by 15 minutes and admonish the audience to arrive on-time... and in low-ARC-wear (an audience of fashionistas, no less  )? Even so, as best I can figure, this really shouldn't work well at all.

I've been to a few shows, and you have kind of hit on the head with the above, often you hear a call to rebake, on a good day the clothes rezz just as they are leaving :)
