From: Surty Slok I had the same issue. For me, starting up the latest Windlight, clearing the cache and quitting without logging in meant that the next time I logged in, all was fine. This on an intel iMac.
It could just be that I got lucky, but might be worth a go? I can't even do this much, i have no preferences button or anything! I can only get into the non-windlight viewer. In windlight I only have the butotns in the toolbar at top, everything else is pure black. Reading the rest of the responses. And its not cause of a bad computer. My computer was built by me, and has been running windlight at max settings since it was re-released.

I just installed again and stil the same problem. I keep trying......... Thank you Raudf Usagi ....................................EDIT Nothing! tried everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looks like there is some sort of lock on my account. not sure but its seems more account related then client. I try in the morning again Did you try it with another client or just the Windlight? Apparently, you aren't banned, or you'd be unable to post here.. I think..

I just logged into the new Windlight client, just as I did at 5am GMT this morning.
30 FPS rapidly drops to 8 FPS once the world rezzes, water is still not working at least on Vista/ATI, contrast still too bright - but better. Glass/transparent shiny seems to be fixed at least.
