I looked on the first page of RA and din't see anyhting about it..
But my login page for SL Windlight is totally blacked out. Got in once (After update) but had to relog and now its all black. I get the spinning SL icon with loading... but everything else is just black, and then even that goes away (Presumably when it's done loading).
Is this just me after this update? And..is it fixable? =P

They are fixing it right now. I'm happy with the fact that 'Pastrami' is blogging this issue: * Aesthetic issues/changes/fixes with WindLight (including avatars looking messed up, overbrightening of textures, etc.) So this means it's being fixed? Hmm, at least not in the latest Windlight. There is still way too much contrast. Texture wash-outs all around. Above is regular viewer (nice Xmas mood), below is Windlight (completely white).

Not Just You ......
12-18-2007 03:29
Okiphia, it's not just you, I haven't been able to log in since the latest update and I'm sure its not lack of a good system: DellXPS 720 quad core Nvidia 8800 Ultra. Shame too- I like windlight dispite half the sim missing from time to time and constant tp crashing.

Have you tried contacting Dell? To explain the problem? Your computer is powerful and shouldnt have any issues.
Did you try support sl?

Sitting This Dance Out
12-18-2007 03:59
Usagi, Just happened yesterday with the mandated update, think I'll sit this one out, I know the dance: submit a support ticket- get told to file a bug report, get told to file a jira, get told to rollback drivers, by that time a new update will solve the issue... been down that road too many times at some point you have to say "it's not me... it's you"

Um, have you actually TRIED fiddling with the settings? The standard setting isn't much use for snow, but you can easily change that. http://www.flickr.com/photos/raynorhammerer/2113152422/This was taken in Windlight with just a bit of twiddling. Btw, I have a Dell Dimension 5150 and I was on line yesterday evening without any problems, so it's prolly not Dell's fault...

From: Alyx Sands Um, have you actually TRIED fiddling with the settings? Hehe. Yes Alyx I have. And results with changing gamma and ambient settings were somewhat better, but not good. Light sand (and of course snow) textures get totally washed out, when hit by sunlight, and the same goes for bright textures on objects. So if you have a tip on the right settings, I'm grateful if you would tell me. But that's not the point. The point is that most users (new AND experienced) simply use default settings. So I believe that LL should lower contrast on DEFAULT settings and then let users decide individually what they'd like to tweak. The difference between contrast in the regular viewer and Windlight is simply desastrous for bright textures. I try to make my textures as sharp and detailed as possible and I'm pretty good at it. But with light/bright textures, all details are washed out.

For me, starting up the latest Windlight, clearing the cache and quitting without logging in meant that the next time I logged in, all was fine. This on an intel iMac. It could just be that I got lucky, but might be worth a go?

Alyx, by no means do I feel it's Dell, there are already reports the drivers for the Navidia card have issues with windlight or it could be said windlight is having problems with up to date Nividia drivers and I suspect that second life had issues with dual core systems I can imagine a quad core system presents it's own set of "issues" there is a reason it's called "bleeding edge technology"

I'm working fine with the latest WL update, so it isn't everyone. They've gone and changed the appearance of the login bar, though. Smaller, darker, harder to read.

From: Usagi Musashi at the moment i think its more of account issues then client issues......... Usagi, true, well rater it's both... where systems are not "up" to second life- or systems exceeded the specifications both present problems for second life, but where there is less backward compatibility there should be more meeting of the rising standards of computer systems, Vista is a prime example.... there is no question second life has to be able to play nice with the gaining popularity of Vista because for better or worse Vista in some form is here to stay, as are the more popular powerful gaming graphics cards as are dual and quad core systems.

All in All.............what I thinking is the possiblity that the code monkeys have broken the XP pro code infavor of vista. Now this might be true.

Wow.. they borked it nicely for my poor ATI Radeon x300. I knew it was bottom of the line, but geeze, it worked just fine before their fix. Now I have to turn off the VBO for the square prim corners to rez properly!

hi Raudf well i don`t know what they have done. But as some are saying now it might not be client related ( or maybe in some ways ) but more of account issues. My support ticket FINALLY has someone looking at it. But nithing fixed yet. Poor code CS this has to be a nightmare for them.

I got the login page OK but I can't download the update. I'm pretty sure this because of the crappy new broadband provider we've switched to (big mistake!), and not LL's fault.

It'd have to be client related, because I had absolutely no problem with the Windlight before this newest. None at all with the VBO enabled. Just downloaded and tried it.. and I have to turn off the VBO to make it work properly. That's not to say that it can't be a conflict between the driver and the client.. but then the client is the one in the wrong, if that's the case, because that's the only thing that's changed. Edit: I can see the login screen, but it takes twice as long to fully render so I can click connect.

questen have you tried loging in with a alt? Alt, main and husband's. No problem with any of them. Did you make sure that you entered the correct password. I've sometimes had the stupid thing reset to whatever it is that they use as the default ****, when I've done a reinstall. Or if I forget to change the password when swapping between alt and main.
