Here's a doozy-

I'm running Windows 7 virtually, using Microsoft's Virtual PC. I only allocated 1 Gig of RAM like I did with Vista (also virtual).

The results so far:

It installed in about 45 minutes or so. Even seemed to have a faster response time with the menus, which Vista didnt.

I'd install it as a full OS, but due to work requirements, I can't spare the time or my PC.

So far I give Windows 7 a thumbs UP.

When I get the chance I'll try a few more things with it

Just installed the beta release today and so far, I'm pretty pleased. They've managed to fix my biggest peeves with Vista.

One Windows Update later, all my drivers were loaded and ready to go. I was surprised since Vista liked to mess around with my some of my drivers and randomly downgrading them, but Windows 7 found all my missing drivers and installed them without a single hitch.

I'm using the 1.19 viewer and reporting no real problems so far.

My laptop has a Core2 Duo 1.66GHz CPU, 3GB RAM, 150GB HDD with nVidia 9500M GS 512MB graphics card.

I hope that this OS remains this stable and awesome when it's released. Anyone try installing this on a MB/MBP via Boot Camp?

Windows 7
nVidia GeForce 6200
nVidia 181.20

Flawless install, performs a lot quicker than XP. Instantly recognised all necessary drivers and the update was impressive too

I installed Win 7 on my Gateway gaming laptop with an Nvidia 8800 GTS 512mb card in it. SL has never worked better! Windows Update found an updated Nvidia driver and so far the gameplay is WAY smoother than on my Vista partition (I am dual booting Vista and Win 7 beta). And the default graphics settings in SL were higher in Win 7 than in Vista, on the same machine! I will be doing all my SL-ing on Windows 7 from this point on. And, looking at the Windows Experience Index numbers, the gaming graphics that get a 4.8 in Vista get a 5.8 in Win 7. Nice! And overall, I really like Windows 7, lots of little UI and user experience tweaks that make the overall experience more enjoyable IMHO. YMMV.

Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit.

Install worked like a charm using the upgrade option, rather than a clean install, from Vista Ultimate. By far the best install system from MS.

The updated video driver was not installed initially, but it was included as an available update, and once installed everything worked very well. Amazing that 7 recognized peripheral equipment that is rather obscure, unlike Vista. Time to install was about 2 hours. This OS is snappier than Vista, and way more fun than XP.

It is taking a bit of poking around to configure, but I enjoy tinkering.

Am using Cool Viewer and it is now even cooler.

No stability problems, except with the odd programs, but nothing detrimental to the system.

Dell XPS 600
nVidia Gforce 8800 GTX, overclocked
Creative SB X Fi
System RAM: 4 gigs [Now if only programs would recognize that much!]

BTW, if you have weird system problems ensure that your UPS matches or exceeds the system power supply.

SL locks up on run for me. Black screen and nothing. Other than this, Windows 7 has been rock solid. My framerates are up as much as 50% in World of Warcraft. The intel chipset installer wouldn't run so I had to run it in vista compatibility mode, but the drivers are fine. It's just that the installer checks for version and isn't aware of 7. I'm using the 64 bit build 7000.

If anyone has experienced SL lockups and managed to get past them, I'd love the hear.

Your Intel drivers didn't get installed? What version/chipset is it?

Are you using the latest RC from LL? Have you tried using an older version (1.19)?

I haven't had any lockups (just a few crashes) and even then, I'm using an alternate viewer and not the official ones from LL.
