Ok...being a shop aholic I sometimes have impulse buys even in SL and now I have an inventory full of 'crap'.

Still being new to SL...what are my options? Is there a way to sell them? List them somewhere for sell at reduced amounts? I don't have a shop or anything so just trying to figure out options for pee-ons like myself to get rid of some of his inventory without a total loss, lol.

I've played THERE.com before and they have an 'auction' feature that anyone can use to list their items for sale and they can set the price.....is there something like that on SL???

People set up yard sales to sell old inventory they no longer want, particularly clothes. Set up a yard sale and advertise it in the appropriate Events category.

Of course, you can only sell items with transfer permission. Anything that is non-transfer is yours forever.

For non-transfer clothing I don't use (but won't delete because I'm a packrat), I have created a separate, rarely-opened folder.

Hi Sylvester...I don't know much about this; no doubt someone will tootle along with better answers, but, here goes:

If they are "transferable" clothes, you can have a yard sale; you could list the yard sale in the inworld "events" and in the forum classifieds...

If you dont own land or have a place to conduct a yard sale...you might want to look for someone who buys inventory, there are quite a few who specialise in clothing, particulary good well known makes. Irecently did this when I just didnt have the time or inclination to set a yard sale up. I made a list of the items I wanted to sell, the makers name and price I hoped for, sent it to a few inventory buyers...boxed all the transfer items up and hey presto...sold within a few hours...very easy & simple.

Search for *buy inventory* or * inventory buyer* etc..should turn up some results.

Another option Ive noticed more of lately are yard sales that are free...some operate on a few hours, ie: you get to lay out a certain amount of items for a certain amount of time (prim values seem to be told to you so you can only set out a certain amount of things)

Ive also seen yard sales renting space...pay for your area of it and set out your gear...

Hope this helps :)

I have over 20k in clothing alone - I am a terrible shopaholic. I have accepted that I will never stop buying and I cannot turn down a decent freebie or resist all of those various hunts. Therefore, unless I really really really love something or it is for some special role playing, I wear items once and then either delete them or give them to newbies (depending on that damn transfer option).

Oh thank god, I thought I was the only one. You keep hearing about these folks with a 7000 item inventory while I wallow around the grid with my 20K plus items.

I have decided to reform however, and will be giving the yard sale thing a try.

Me too, such an impulse shopper, I have heaps and most of it is good stuff. I am going to give mine to a needy newbee. I have some lovely skins too, which I paid good money for, but found they were a tad to dark for me as I don't like much of a tan.

I want to make some newbee super hot :)

actually yard sales should not be advertised in the events section, as it is an ongoing thing.

Events is used for just that, events, that have a host or hostess, and last up to 3 hours.

They warn that they will remove any breaking the rules, but sadly they do not, and events is a jumbled up mess.

I doubt many people even try to muddle through events much anymore.

You could also donate items to benefits like this:

http://girlwonderspeaks.blogspot.com/2008/06/get-bargain-andor-clean-up-your.html

And yes, it's legit. The woman in question is a part of the circle of people I've known since early on in my SLife.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Ann - I love this idea - thank you for posting this.

While I do like to be able to make a backup copy of something like a flex skirt before modifying it, I also want to be able to give away my clothes. What we really need is some way of tying the copies together so that I could then remove all extra copies and give away my only remaining one.

In any case, I have never wanted the hassle of messing with a yard sale and I like the idea of helping others out - which is why newbies or really good friends get my handouts for free. I will however send a bunch of items over to this current cause.

I'm currently around 4300 inventory (because a friend of mine saw I was having a yard sale and dumped a bunch of his inventory on me...lol) but I have a hard and fast rule to not exceed 5K and prefer around 3500.

I was wondering how all these clothing/shoe/etc. stores stay in business. Now I know. *grins*

I go to Orientation Island Public. There's tons of noobs there that can use things you want to lose. ... But be prepared to explain to most of them how to wear/use the stuff you give them!

Use the 'All' tab of Search and enter any of the following: Welcome, orientation, info hub, newbie, freebie

If you go to any of the current Freebie malls, you *sometimes* do not have to explain as much, but be prepared for it anyway. And it is far easier on a newbie if you give them a folder rather than a box that they have to unpack.

I had close to 21000 things in my inventory. So one day i did a good clean up and deleted around 8000 items. Yeah, I'm proud of myself.:D Would love to give most of my deleted things to newbies, but like 90-95% are no transfer.:S

For some reason I haven't had much success in helping newbies with clothing items - or much else than requested advice.

I carried around the New Resident Packet put together by Lucrezia Lamont for a long time. When I worked at a club, we had newbies regularly come in; you know the type - no idea how much of anything in SL worked - still wearing the outfit they rezzed in, including the system hair, etc. I would IM and offer the new Resident Kit and usually get an "Oh, I guess" type of answer.

I don't run into newbies in my daily SL life much anymore. However a recent experience kind of amazed me:

A friend and I were leaving an event and paused to talk for a moment when a newbie joined us, said she was brand new, admired our hair and dresses and said "I hope I can look like that some day." While I was locating the New Resident Kit, my friend gave this woman an evening gown and hair. After some difficulty with the hair as the newbie needed the bald piece to go with it so the system hair didn't show, she said, "I really don't like this style. Do you have any others?"

I was stunned. Even if she hated the hair...the fact that a complete stranger gave something to her out of kindness would seem to warrant at least a "thank you."

I was further stunned after the woman put on the evening gown and said she would like another color.

This woman started with a litany of questions that were asked in a "demanding" attitude. My friend and I were IMing and wondering if she was just totally obliviously rude or some type of scamster and how we should handle it when the "newbie" poofed without a word.

I think I'll stick to yard sales. :o

Well I have failed my mission totally. I went to a couple of noob meeting areas and checked out the profiles, I tried to help the really new ones, 1 or 2 days old. But, I don't think they actually knew I was talking to them. I tried local chat and I. So, I went to orientation Island and no luck their either.

I have put all my stuff in folder, one day I'll come across someone that needs it.

Czari, I am stunned at that womans reaction, I was lucky enough to have friends who helped me, but I would have been so grateful to anyone who offered help like you and your friend did. That's just shocking.

After you've sold or deleted the things you really don't want, you'll probably be left with a load of stuff you can't quite bring yourself to get rid of in case you need it one day!

In a place where 'build' is enabled, rez a prim on the ground - anything - cube, sphere, whatever. Rename the prim something like 'spare stuff' or 'crap'. The open its 'contents' tab. Click/drag all your surplus stuff from your inventory across to the contents panel and it will be moved or copied there depending on permissions. Delete items from your inventory that you copied to the box.

When you have saved all the stuff you want in the box, 'take' it back to your inventory. It only appears as 1 item in the inventory count, even if it has 40 things in it. Also, it does not open accidentally like folders sometimes do as you move the cursor down the list.

If you want to get at the stuff, either rez the box and open it or edit it and open 'contents'.

you can even edit it on land that your not allowed to build on too, just wear the box and edit, go to contents, drag to inventory what you want.

Great postings!! I'm glad I asked...i think i changed my mind and instead of yardsaling it away I'm gonna give away to noobs.

Czari...don't give up on the noobs, ya you'll have a few idiots, but by experience I know how i felt when someone took me under their wing...i am still eternally grateful to this day!! It makes a big impact on them and its something small for us, so I'll risk giving away somethings to a couple idiots in order to change a SecondLife for one, lol.

My noob experience....I was walkin around all noobish, feeling 'hot' in my new 'freebie' pants..I thought I was the next best thing that hit SL! A wondeful lady avy swooped in and saw how ridiculous I looked and took me to a male shop (btw - i still shop there!) and actually BOUGHT me an outfit out of her own $L !!! I was stunned and grateful, and the weird thing about it is i NEVER heard back from her again???

Thanks again for the great suggestions!
