I was told by another resident that there were bullets that would effectively kill an avatar in that it would essentially wipe out their inventory, profiles and so forth... putting you back where you were when you first entered through one of the welcome centers.
I'm not sure if this is an SL equivalent of an urban legend or in fact something that is possible. Looking for clarification. Fact or fiction. If fact, I'm surprised that SL wouldn't do something to block that.

No. Absolutely not. You can only be "Killed" in a damage enabled sim, when your health reaches 0%. Then you will simply be teleported home.

i've never heard of anything like it..they will send you home but your inventory can't be wiped by anyone in sl without hacking into their server..i would say it was just a bluff or they heard wrong themselves

Nothing can wipe out your invo except the asset server. It has eaten many of my items over the years.
Bullets.. no worries.

From: Rube Flatley ..... essentially wipe out their inventory, profiles and so forth... Violate the TOS and LL will do just that. Other than LL, the asset server can and does destroy inventory. Nothing else can do any permanent damage. If all else fails, relog and you will find you are back to your usual self with your normal inventory, profile, etc...

I remember hearing the same thing when I first started so I avoided damage enabled places
since then I have died once, I got attacked by scripted zombies, health went to 0 and I was tp'd home
that was all that happened

By sheer coincidence I was 'killed' last night due to an oversight by my friend. She wanted to show me a new weapon she had, and forgot we were on damage enabled land. I realise now I was being teleported home but the load was so slow, everywhere just remained grey, until my friend realised her error and pulled me back. I did get a message saying I had been killed though. There was no other damage other than my surprise. My inventory appears to be complete.

Sometimes it may also cause you to crash. It's not because of the bullets, or whatever, but because your pc, etc can't cope.

The only way bullets could 'kill' you that way is if you fired enough of them to collect a ban.

Really now, interesting. I died many times, there was a maze that I used to explore, and the Greenies post apocolypse SIM is great fun. Avoid the bugs, can't fly, lots of bugs, scary bugs.
As for a wipe of all my info, I think I would be hugely upset. We all know I couldn't file for damages, since I don't really own anything I made. But a few years of builds and several businesses, if I lost control over them, I would be quite mad.

Well if you *could* kill an avatar - then we would have to start the 101 things to do with a dead avatar thread.
1. Send to haunt asset server 2. Permacamp them so living residents have to find something more interesting to do 3. Leave them lying around orientation islands to confuse newbs 4. Pile them up around advertising boards 5. Hurl them in the famous custard lake 6. Keep them in the closet with all your other skeletons 7. ... etc etc

Transparent Avatars, Ghost AO's, newest in Ghost Medieval outfits, headless Ghost etc

I've heard it said that for some, death happens as soon as they accept the Partnership with someone - and then an alt is born (reincarnation at its best).

Thanks for all the replies. Seemed hard to believe .. and it would seem that it is not true. These two responses ... well, lmao.

There was that guy who posted last year, suggesting that SL should have death, to make it more game like. You would have an energy level that had to be replenished with food, and you could actually be killed as in "Cancel Christmas". We had some fun discussions about it for a while. I forget his name.

From: Amaranthim Talon I believe The Trout has that one covered. Yep. Conception to the grave and beyond. That's my motto. I married CTA Mumfuzz off, killed him, presided over his funeral and exorcised his ghost from the hangout in under half an hour. So, if anyone needs an exorcism, just let me know. You might still have ghosts, but I can probably entertain them long enough for you to get your stuff and run away.

Apparently you CAN die...

So, I left my avatar reading on a beach at "Pearson Education Deutschland" while I walked away from SL for a few weeks. When I came back, well, he looked like this: http://twitpic.com/7pvkNo lie. It looks like he was flayed and his hide tanned, and his head stuffed between his legs. I'm still a n00b in SL even though I've had an avatar for a while (haven't found anything interesting to do, yet). From this thread it doesn't sound like this is common. How do I reset the dude? If I go into Appearance, all I can do is make this mess fatter or skinnier. Can't even pull the guy's head out from between his knees. Just...weird.
