Okay, as a woman, I have to speak up on this, now. I have read 10 of John Norman's novels on Gor, and I have rp'd on Gor in SL now for 5 months. I can assure you, Gor is not a sex cult, as a cult is all about brainwashing people into believing only the cult's (or the cult leader's) tenets. If you want to experiment Gor, go right ahead and Goreans will welcome you. If you want to leave, you can walk through that exit at any time. No one tries to stop you (unlike true cults).

As far as sex goes, there are two types in Gor: the Free Women, who bear the Free Men's children, run the homes, supervise the servants, and make her partner as happy as possible - in a reserved, unpassionate manner. Free Women are said to be rather demure in sex. You get the picture. Kajirae are the pleasure slaves who get to have all the sex they want. They can yell, scream, use descriptive words during sex and do just about anything they have an inkling to do during sex, except maybe light up and have a cigarrette afterwards.

Don't forget, Gor is SUPPOSED to be as Earth was in the medieval ages, a time period on our planet where a man could beat his wife up to the point that she lost control of her body functions (if he went beyond that and continued to beat her, and she died, he was responsible for her death).

I have been a Free Woman and a slave in Gor. I choose to be free. Some women on the Gor sims are in RL Dom/sub relationships and others are just into rough sex. But most of the women who r/p slaves in Gor are doing it because they wish to. A slave who wishes to break free need only say, "I don't wish to r/p this anymore." I have known several girls who have done this - gone to their Master out of character and said they needed a break or had had enough of slavery. I've also known one enamored Master approach his adored one's Master and discussed selling the slave. The slave is sold to her beloved who is her new Master, the former master has a pocket of coins, and everyone is happy.

As for physical abuse of women in Gor, we have our limits on our profiles. If someone tries to trespass those limits, one can legally teleport out of the r/p. Simple as that. Yes, there are some over-zealous men in Gor - I've been murdered twice, both deaths deemed invalid and I was brought back.

A final note on John Norman as a chauvinist......John Norman wrote the books to protest some of the man-hating diatribes of some of the rather rabid man-bashing speakers for the Women's Liberation Movement in the 1960's. MUCH OF GOR IS TO PROTEST THE EVENTS IN THE TIME IT WAS WRITTEN - just as other books, such as 'Alice in Wonderland' and 'David Copperfield' and 'Gulliver's Travels'. Norman may have held some chauvinism in his heart, but I'm willing to bet that most men do have a little of that chauvinism in RL.

As I've said to many in Gor, a woman can never be FORCED to kneel; she does it of her own accord and on her terms. A man might THINK he's forced her to kneel, but a woman's mind can never be reigned in so easily. For this reason, I DO find all the nadus, the vocabulary, and the gushings of admiration for a Master tedious. It may be expected, but doing all these things doesn't prove a slave's devotion. A slave will be devoted because of the way they are treated in Gor. And I've learned in Gor that the masters have a HUGE responsibility to their slaves; and if they don't meet those responsibilities, they will wind up with no slaves.

As a Free Woman, I have a choice in whom I will submit to, and I'll make sure that I know that man very well before I do. A woman can tell a lot about a man by the way he treats his slaves in Gor.

A woman's submission - true submission - is done out of love and respect for the man she submits to. None of us in Gor are there because we're forced into it.

Seems like the subject of Gor is coming close to earning itself a place as a corollary to Godwin's Law on these forums.

I think the use of Gor actually predates Godwin's law when it comes to widespread use on these Forums.
