I don't know who made this chart but I found a link in my friendfeed stream

http://www.scribd.com/full/17768214?access_key=key-i00rpclbbnbeqyv8prp

http://tr.im/B95H

It has the normal SL viewer, Snowglobe, Gemini, Meerkat, Emerald, Imprudence and Hippo.

*sigh*

The rot is now mainstream.

"Search box top right" is not a "feature", it's a "bug".

Luckily you can turn that bastard off, and get the bandwidth/packet loss meters (which are NOT a bleeding "mini lag meter", the "lag meter" is a piddling bone tossed in after they covered those beggars up with the useless search bar) in the top bar.

On the standard viewer, and presumably most other viewers, The Advanced menu, which used to be called the Debug menu, is toggled by Control Alt D, or in some cases, Control Alt Shift D.

When displayed it's on the main menu, to the right of the Help option.

Got the Advanced Options up... I may be blind, but I don't see an option for Shadows.

In the 1.23.4 viewer shadows are enabled through debug settings. The fourth menu item from the bottom under the Advanced menu.

Set RenderUseFBO and Renderdeferred to True.

Actually, I think we'll have a better chance of winning the lottery than figuring out the information from the Lindens.

Curious about the Emerald Viewer and all the features?

Gemini Viewer - UI and fonts too small ????

Funny, but after adjusting them in the options they were just fine :)

Confirmed I'm using 1.23.4(673)

Found the settings you referred to...

• Set RenderUseFBO to True

• Set Renderdeferred to True

But no shadows. Went back and checked settings...

• RenderUseFBO set to True

• Renderdeferred set to False

Can't seem to get Renderdeferred to set to True. Am I missing something? Or am I just a noob?

What graphics adapter do you have? They don't all support shadows. I think hardware skinning (custom graphics option) may also need to be enabled.

There's your problem. The HD2600 can't do shadows.

How do I get the bandwidth/packet loss meters back, Argent?

You just have to turn off that search panel thingie at top and the small bandwidth/packet loss meters return to that spot. At least in Emerald.

Advancend menu>UI>Show search panel in overlay bar (uncheck this on here)

Now we need a third axis to compare to grid compatibility. The sooner everyone knows which viewers they can export with and import elsewhere the safer their investments will be.

Thanks, Lexie. I'd actually found that in debug settings when I read Argent's post but, because of the skin I'm using on Emerald (and because it was very late for me) I hadn't noticed that the bandwidth/packet loss meters replaced it.

The other glaring omission is whether RLV is built-in -- it's not just fun for us in the BDSM crowd but also lets you do all sorts of useful things by script you can't otherwise do.

Under "Building", the table shows "Backup", with Emerald as "Yes". I've searched for it but can't find it. Is it the "Export" function (export an object as an XML file)? If it's not that, where is the backup feature to be found?

It's amazing we have had shadows as an option through advanced settings over last 12 months but there's still no button for it in the graphics setings.

Emerald has RLVa built in. You check the button in the emerald settings to be RLV compatible, relog and there you go. :)

I know, Brie, but I was saying that's a feature of alternative viewers that might usefully be mentioned in a comparison chart, cos not all of them do have RLV or RLVa.

Shadows doesn't work properly. From my testing:

1) Using AA together with shadows crashes the viewer on Nvidia cards. This is apparently a known problem, searching on the net.

2) Using shadows causes property line displays to be messed up.

3) It doesn't for me display entirely correctly yet. There are shadows where none should be. Could be a bug somewhere, though.

I would prefer it not be activated until it works completely.

Gak. Why do people have to use scribd when an ordinary web site link would work fine. Better yet, just build it on the wiki.

Scribd chews up screen real estate and loses basic Acrobat Reader buttons like zoom, forcing an unnecessary use of Flash instead.

Plus the scroll wheel doesn't work.
