Question about "Buy Pass"

Tegg's vehicle rezzing platform inspired me to create a public boat launch area on our sim. But I can't get it to work the way I want it to.

I split off a parcel, and set it to "All residents create objects". It wouldn't let me set "Buy Pass" until I also checked "group access only".

But when I did that, and the Buy Pass borders were set up, it wouldn't let me in!

I want to set this so that group members can enter for free, but non-members have to buy a pass. Is there a way to do that?

Can't get inworld at the moment to test. But first, let's eliminate the most obvious thing (sorry if this sounds stupid but it's the kind of thing I would do).

Did you have your group tag on when you changed the settings?

Also I remember a somewhat recent discussion about this so maybe something in this thread will be useful:

Thanks, Malia. Yeah, that was the first thing I checked, since I forget to wear it so often. Group tag WAS on.

Slighty OT, but if you use Firefox and install the Greasemonkey script ...

You can't set up "Buy Pass" if "Allow Public Access" is checked. When you checked "Allow Group Access", that un-checked Public access, and made the buy pass feature available. You should have also been able to make it available by unchecking "Allow Public Access".

The group members in the specified group *should* have access without a pass, if the "Sell Passes To" option is set to "Anyone". Those two options are additive. But if the "Sell Passes To" option is set to "Group", then only embers of that group may buy a pass, and they need a pass to enter the parcel.

The "Allowed Residents" list should contain the people who can always trump these access restrictions. Add yourself there, to make sure you always have access. Using the Release Candidate viewer, I was able to set my parcel so only those on the "Allowed Residents" list could go there for free, and anyone else had to buy a pass. I was also able to set it up so anyone in my group could go there for free, while anyone else would need a pass.

Oh, and do remember that any ban that isn't explicit by name only goes to 50 M above the terrain. So anyone at all could fly into the parcel 51 M above the terrain and rez anything they like, without a pass and without belonging to your group.

That's exactly what I want to do, Ceera. Could you be a little more explicit? Do I have to use the RC viewer? Exactly which boxes do I need to check/uncheck, and are they all in the About Land dialogs, or are some of them in the Group Roles settings?

You don't have to use the RC client. I just specified which one I was using, since some of the options are a bit different in other clients.

Here is how it *should* work:

To use parcel access restrictions, either by group or using the "Buy Pass" option, you first must uncheck "Allow Public Access". Note that on a group-deeded parcel, if you do this, and the other boxes aren't yet checked, and if your own name is not in the "Allowed Residents" list, that you will get a warning that you're about to be ejected from the parcel! So I recommend either adding your own name explicitly to the "Allowed Residents" list before unchecking the "Allow Public Access" checkbox, or checking the "Group Access" checkbox, which automatically unchecks "Allow Public Access".

If anyone is explicitly listed by name on the "Allowed Residents" list, they should always have access to the parcel. No other restriction trumps that explicit list of names. The group access and buy pass options don't affect this list of people.

Anyone explicitly banned by name is not allowed, regardless of other settings. (A banned-by-name individual can't buy a pass or join a group to get in.)

If you check the "Allow Group Access" checkbox, and if the "Buy Pass" checkbox is NOT checked, then anyone in the group that the parcel is set to or deeded to can access the parcel. (This is how I have my home set up right now. My land group and a limited number of named guests can access the parcel.)

If you check the "Allow Group Access" checkbox, and if the "Buy Pass" checkbox IS checked, and if the option for "Buy Pass" is set to "Anyone", then anyone in the group that the parcel is set to or deeded to can access the parcel freely, while anyone else must purchase a pass.

If you check the "Allow Group Access" checkbox, and if the "Buy Pass" checkbox IS checked, and if the option for "Buy Pass" is set to "Group", then anyone in the group that the parcel is set to or deeded to must purchase a pass for access, and no one who is not in that group can buy a pass.

Unrelated to the buy pass and group access options, if you allow public access, but attempt to use the new option to restrict the parcel to age-verified only, if the land is group owned, members of the group can still access the parcel even if not age-verified, and anyone explicitly named on the "Allowed Residents" list can also access the parcel, even if not age verified.

Active group doesn't have an impact on whether or not you can access a parcel. The only things where your active group makes a difference is "Buy for group" and building.

---

Not in world to test right now, but they could probably just rez their boat on the parcel and then drag it on over into the water and then sit in it without having to pay for a pass.

Hmm seems to be working fine on my land.

I have set Allow Group Access
And
Sell Passes to Anyone

And my group members aren't listed in allowed residents.
I can enter and build as I like with my tag off too.

If you own the land, and the land is only SET to the group, then you, as owner, always have access to that parcel. It's when the land is DEEDED to the group that you would be affected by the access restrictions. Because then you don't directly "Own" that parcel, even if you are the "Owner" of the group'

Hmm my land is deeded to the group :)

Thanks, Tegg, and thanks Ceera.

It worked...I think. At least, I no longer see the Buy Pass banlines around the area, and I can walk into and out of it.

I really ought to have someone who's not in the group come over and check it out, to see if the Buy Pass lines are there for them. :)

Send me an LM in a notecard, and ask in the notecard for me to check the parcel for you. I'll do it for you when I get in-world next time.

PS: This is a case where having a few spare alts is handy. Have an alt that is NOT in the group, and test whth that account.

If the place your referring to is Lebettu, the link in your picks is at: Governor Linden, Orientation Island, Orientation Island 6 (125, 141, 22)

Well, I guess I messed THAT up. :o

I'll fix it tonight when I get in world. Meanwhile, Lebettu 86,168,24 should get you close enough. If my (increasingly unreliable) memory serves.

If your talking about Open Mind Paradise, there are red ban lines and can't enter because I'm not a member of the appropriate group

Edit: I found it. Public Boat Launch and Green Buy Pass Lines do show

Edit 2; Can't buy a pass, but I can buy the sign for L$100 LOL

I get two warnings for various ways to access the boat:

You cannot sit because you are not allowed on that land.

Cannot enter parcel, you are not on the access list.

Thanks, Dekka! Now I'm frustrated again. You ought to have been able to buy a pass and get in. Sheesh.

Wanna buy a sign? :D

[EDIT: I just re-read your post. Did you try to buy the pass by clicking the sign? Try opening the About Land dialog instead and click the Buy Pass button there. If that's the problem, I'll update the signs to explain How To Do It more clearly.]

never thought to click the water, but now you say so, it's obvious, but yes I would make a sign for people like me who tend to click on everything that doesn't count

Hmm does clicking on the water work? I have to click on my land to buy a pass. I should put a sign up too. Something like "Please right click the land at the base of this sign to buy a pass"

I have a friend who's sim is pass-based. Most problems people had with buying a pass went away as soon as I made him a scripty that simply let them click the sign to pay instead of "Buy Pass" on the terrain which seems to really confuse people :).

Works fine now! I was able to go there, see the pass lines, buy my pass, and rez a boat and ride it out into the nearby water area.

Sure, clicking on the water works. The land is under the water, that's all.

But I would like a "click sign to buy pass" script, too. Dekka proved that treating any sign as a vendor device is a natural reaction.
