From: LittleMe Jewell That looks a lot like the 'palletized texture' problem, but that was corrected in the last couple of releases. Actually, since I started using the 1.23 client, the very same problem reappered for me, too. Does come with the shredded pants/socks effect. Almost the same as it was back when the bug was officially active, only now it vanishes most of the times after a tp, and with the skin problem, a rebake always fixes it.

i get the exact same issue in the exact same spots with some frequency, and totally at random.
rebake sometimes works for a short while. but it comes back. it tends to only happen with my regular (eXceSs) skin.

The weirdest thing is that Secondlife reccomends Nvidia graphic cards and I have Nvidia on all my computers that i used in the past. Now it's a geforce 7000 series, that should do the trick. But appearantly it doesn't.

Now I have seen that in some SL locations, the black spots dissapear. Talk about confusing.

Veronique, if you can post your full computer specs, one of the technically clever people may be able to help you.

My computer is an XPS1, pls don't ask about specs (or if u need them pls tell me where to find them - i do know that its a quad core with dual NVidia dedicated graphics cards). I have exactly the same problem and it's driving me nuts - shadows around the waist particularly, i have tried the 'female' test and it hasnt' changed anything I'm a skin creator and this has bugged me since i started making them, i've uploaded as PNG and TGA and both show the same effect. Any advice or pointers to further info would b much appreciated - and good luck with yours too!!

From: spinster Voom Veronique, if you can post your full computer specs, one of the technically clever people may be able to help you. Well it's a PB desktop, graphics card is nvidia geforce 7050. The laptop is a HP, also with nvidia but 9 series. I must add that on any other programm everything works great. Also in SL everything goes fast, I have no lag (except in very crowded places) so the only thing is this texture problem that has been going on now for several months. No answer to my ticket yet, I wonder why.

i think i may have a solution i am not sure without seeing the pictures, but you can try this: if you run sl in a window, maximize the window, so it fills the whole screen. then rebake the textures (ctrl+alt+r i think i am not online atm sorry) if that doesnt help, rezise the window, so it doesnt fill the screen and rebake, then go back to maximized and rebake again. if you run in fullscreen, go to windowed, maximize it and rebake. alt tabbing can cause such problems and windowed sl with a small window while baking the texture can cause that too. hope that helps good luck edit: if that doesnt help you, clear cache and retry what i suggested

Wow! I managed to get the pics this time and mine's not quite the same issue. I hope the suggestions work for u Veronique - mine tho i think relates to the palletised textures referred to previously. Around the waist seam on all my skins, tga or png, there is a dark shadow around the lower back - i will take some pics and try and post a link after. If anyone has any advice on this - although it seems small compared to V.'s problem - it would b much appreciated. Cheers.

Rebake, rebake and rebake. If that doesn't help, clear cache and rebake numerous times. Seriously, rebaking once or twice often does nothing. Three or four times does the trick for me now.

For what it's worth, today I found a solution for my end of the problem that looked exactly like the Nvidia bug. Am using Emerald viewer, which has an option to "protect clothing layer", and this is on by default. Seems like this was causing the trouble for me, once turned off the viewer behaves normal again.

It should be possible to fix without downloading an illegal viewer.

Any news on your support ticket yet? Why isn't it on the SL downloadpage then ? Not sure if we could trust that. Yes I got a ticket response. They think it could be due to a wireless connection. Anyway, i'll rebake everytime i see problems. And if i can't help it, if people don't like to see black spotes they can look somewhere else. I'm tired of searching.

From: Veronique Gontineac Why isn't it on the SL downloadpage then ? Not sure if we could trust that. Because it's a third-party viewer based on the open-sourced client code LL released a couple of years ago. You'll find it on this page (wiki is down at the moment, check later). http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Alternate_viewers#Third-party_ViewersIt may be worth your while trying out a couple of different viewers if you are still having problems. From: Veronique Gontineac They think it could be due to a wireless connection. Yes, wireless connections are notoriously flakey for running SL. If you bring up your lag meter (in the help menu) and keep an eye on the network dot, that should indicate if this is the problem. Good luck

I tried changing sims a few times and logging of and off but it was OK after doing the same procedure that only takes a few seconds. Who could have thought it would be that simple ??? I'm just afraid to change skins yet LOL. In any case thank you Yuriko !

Emerald is NOT illegal.
I've been using SL with a wireless connection since nov 2006 and have never had a problem with it, ever. Even back when I had to temporarily use my way old laptop that barely has a video card at all...lol. It worked wonderfully with my DSL connection, and now works even better with a FIOS connection. I understand for some users wireless connections can be the culprit, just saying that it isn't ALWAYS an issue.
R(elease)C(andidate) viewer seems to clear up many issues for many users... if you haven't, give it a try.
