Hi all.
I have been having a problem for months now.
My appearance has black spots, on different places of the skin.
I have tried everything to stop this.
First they told it was the "graphics card" :
I used SL now on 3 different desktops and 1 laptop, all with different graphic cards inside : nothing helped.
I have tried changing skins : black spots dissapear sometimes but teleporting to another sim or just logging on brings them back.
Then they told it was the "viewer" :
So instead of the normal SL version, i installed the "release candidate viewer".
This didn't help at all.
Then i installed the "snowglobe viewer".
Same thing.
All I can think of is a bug in my inventory ????
Please advice if possible.
I ran out of options.

hmmm ... is it just you who sees the spots, or others as well? Could you post an image? That might help somebody pinpoint the problem.

Take a picture, inworld, using the Snapshot button at the bottom of your screen - but save the picture to your hard drive rather than to inventory. Edit/crop picture if you wish. Load it to some place like Flickr or Photo Bucket. Post the .jpg link here by clicking on the little yellow box above the reply window and pasting the link in to that tiny window.

upload it to flickr or wherever and then put tags round the url of the picture location. If others see it too, it's not your graphics card and I don't think it could be your viewer either.

Yes, that is what i think too since everybody else see me in the same way.
And if there is a bug in my inventory, with thousands of items, i guess impossible to find wich one it is.

That looks a lot like the 'palletized texture' problem, but that was corrected in the last couple of releases.

Since you have changed skins and that does not work, I am at a loss.

The picture link wasn't visible for me without quoting the post, so here is there url in case anyone couldn't see it.

http://s844.photobucket.com/albums/ab4/veroniquegontineac

I'd try doing a Detach All and an Advanced/ Character/ Character Tests /Avatar Male or Avatar Female.

The system specs might be useful.

It's normal for problems with skins caused on one's computer to appear on other people's computer.

If you have an alt or have a friend with an account you could log your alt in or get your friend to log in on your computer, just to see what happens.

System specs might be useful.

If you mention the type of video card you have, that allows people to search for reports of problems with that video card. The more information about your system you provide, the greater the chance of someone being able to provide a solution.

You did what?

Did you log in with an alt?

Did you get a friend to log in from your system?

First post states that the avatar has logged in on 3 different desktops and a laptop and all produce the same results. This implies it is something about the avatar and not the computer --- unless all of those computer are running the same graphics card.

The "multiple computers" also eliminates a 'corrupted cache' issue.

OP has also tried 3 different LL viewers and none of that made a difference, which should eliminate the 'viewer' aspect.

Are you referring to Suezanne's suggestion of "I'd try doing a Detach All and an Advanced/ Character/ Character Tests /Avatar Male or Avatar Female. " If not, or if you did not do all of these steps, please try that.

Incorrect - the viewer bakes the appearance textures into one texture and sends it to SL for everyone - so any problems you experience, for instance with a video card, are shown on everyone's screen.

Wow, I never knew that. If she's tried on different computers though, it's unlikely to be that isn't it? or is the damage permanent?

Veronique, can you put a support ticket in before you give up altogether?

Well, one would suppose you'd see the same texture until rebaking. I wonder if she rebaked on the other computers.

It's entirely possible that a person could try on four computers all of which have minimal Intel onboard graphics. With no information on what any of the GPUs are, there's no reason to assume that any of them can handle SL properly. Might be unlikely, but it's not impossible. Providing system information such as the brand and model of video card is trivially easy, it's free, it can't possibly make solving the problem harder for people who aren't there in person but who are trying to help.

You are right though that it sounds like something else. They appear to be saying they've done a "Character Test". I don't recall at the moment if they've done a "Detach All", and a rebake, and done them all at the same time.

Logging in from the primary computer with a different account might provide useful information.

Just thinking now:

Assume I'm on a computer that's screwing up my av. I log out and go to someone else's computer. I log in.

Does that cause my av to get rebaked on the someone else's computer, or do I see the skin that was baked on the screw-up inducing computer? I think that to maximize the chance of getting a proper rebake, I'd need to do the Detach All and Character Test on the other person's computer.

My reply might seem a bit testy; if so, I apologize; I'm not feeling real well today.
