Seriously, though - what did your "friend" do?

moved with all his SAP friends to the new open grid, perhaps?

Hi,

My friend was being verbally abusive to the admins and since I wasn't... it was all very childish of them to lump me in with them. I hope not to offend anyone but later on I did find out that these admins are a bunch of 19 yo kids and not the 30 year old officially paid admins that I misttok them for.

I did stop talking to my one friend that they hated because he seemed to be trouble but they literally had someone watch me to see if I was talking to him. They were telling they could see me and who I was with!

I complied with their wishes because I thought I had. Where I come from admins are supposed to be people who you listen too. But I guess I really don't need to listen to a bunch of self appointed admins who do not work for Linden labs now do I? :)

"Bite me" and the mute button will be used liberally from now on.

The entire situation was very unjust and when I complained about it to them I was told that people in SL are considered guilty until proven innocent. I think that I do not want to be in regions where they think this and am glad to be now banned from them, even if for just a little while. The ban will serve to keep me safe from these crazy people.

I do have another friend I have made in SL and I don't want to lose him and his mate as friends as they have helped me through a couple of hard times.

Thanks everyone again for your help. I appreciate it more than you will know.

And if you are one of those people out there who hate me for no reason and are reading this .... "Bite me, you are muted".

One other thing... if these "admins" are claiming to be representatives of Linden Lab(tm) they are in violation of TOS themselves and subject to immediate bannination if ARed.

Hi Everyone,

I just want to thank everyone for answering my plea for help so quickly and making me feel better about Second Life. I am going to mute these cruel people and go about my business as usual. I never expected this kind of treatment from people I don't even know and mute will now become my favorite feature to protect myself from them.

I just got a TOS ban for 30 days from this group. I am assuming this means that it is THEIR TOS and not Second Life's. Am I correct in thinking that? The email says the list of places will follow.

Thanks again for all you advice,

Wuffy

How on earth did they get your Email Address? This whole thing seems a bit off. What is the name of this group? Who are the Admins? and What Sims are they banning you from?

Those are good questions I would LOVE to visit them :D
See if they indeed do try to monitor msn... then see how long they can remain out of a federal prison

No they did not say they were from Linden Labs. I assumed they were. Obviously my very naive mistake. They stopped me from asking for help sooner by convincing me that even if I complained, no one would help me.

When they first IMed me they just made threats about not causing trouble and that I better not talk to my friend anymore. They never identified themselves as admins. I muted the one who threatened to ban me but then it made things worse. I knew something was not right but I fell for it hook line and sinker the more they talked.

My friend included me in on an MSN chat he was having with some admin and thats how they got my hotmail email address and therefore my MSN username. I am changing my Hotmail account and MSN login so they can't bother me there again.

I am not sure of the exact name of the region I am banned from actually. I'll find out soon when I try to log in and see where I can no longer teleport.

It all seventy-five million years ago, Xenu was the ruler of a Galactic Confederacy which consisted of 26 stars and 76 planets including Earth. I'd tell you more, but you might catch pneumonia.

There's more to SL than one bad region and a dispute with an owner! So much more! It won't take long for you to find another venue in SL where people are nice and sensible.

Sadly, THAT part was true. LL does not really care most of the time. :o

Chasing you into RL is definitely over the line, maybe even AR'able, and it sounds like the people there were overzealous. You did show up with a trouble-maker, though. I think your best bet is to lose that 'friend' of yours, especially if he was stupid enough to let them get your MSN info (or, worse, if he knew it was stupid then did it anyway), and walk away from everybody involved.

As for them watching you while you were there, of course they were. You showed up with somebody that was causing trouble. Wouldn't you do the same thing if a group of people showed up at your place and one of them started trouble?

A good thing to remember is that almost everytwhere in SL is private property and the land owner is pretty much the king (or queen) there. They don't need any reason to eject/ban you from their land and you have no recourse if they're rude then toss you out - it's their land and they can do whatever they want there, as long as it doesn't violate the Lindens rules. Period. If you find a place that's managed in a way you don't like, just move on and find somewhere else.

Sounds like he and his friend ran afoul of a RP group, or maybe Gorians? with his name I would venture to guess he's a furry?

They may have wandered into some Sim with a dress code and they were banned when they put up a stink when asked to leave.

My friend teleported me into this club I had never been to where he was evidently hated and then we left a few minutes later. After that, I had admins telling me what a horrible person I was, that if I did not stop talking to my friend that 883 furs would be after me and the entire mess started.

This sounds oddly familiar, your friends first name wouldn't be "Aides" would it?

I have friend within SL who seems to have caused trouble with many people. Because I am this person's friend, admins have been harrassing me and have even blackmailed me to stop being friends with this person. They have told me that if I don't stop talking to this person I will be banned. These admins have been monitoring my network connections to make sure I am not IMing this person on MSN and they are even secretly following my every move within SL.

I have done nothing more but be this person's friend and I have no involvement with this person's actions. But they continue to bully me and threaten me with banning.

Is this legal? And what can I do to stop this persecution?

I am afraid that if I file an abuse report that more bad things will happen to me and I don't know what to do.

It sounds like the persons whom you intially inaccurated described as admins are violating the TOS (section 4.1) and Community Standards.(under Harassment and Disclosure.) Banning you from their areas is not a violation; threatening action against you if you do not disavow your friends is a violation.

Terms of Service: http://secondlife.com/corporate/tos.php

Community Standards: http://secondlife.com/corporate/cs.php

You are well within your rights to file abuse reports against these people.

However, you may not need to. Unless these people continue to bother you, you may just want to let it go. Sometimes, the best way to get rid of people who are harassing you is simply to ignore them. Document what they have done, in case you need to reference it in the future; but if they are not continuing to harass you, it might be best to let sleeping dogs lie.

If they do continue to harass you, report it.

The fact that they hate your friend- whether for good reason or not- does not excuse their behavior.

They probably cannot actually carry through with their threats of monitoring your communications. If they show that they can, yes, it's quite illegal and you should report it to Linden Lab and your local authorities. It's likely to be just bluffing, though.

Though your friend has not done anything violating the TOS by you (based on what you have reported), your friend certainly did bring a lot of unnecessary, senseless trouble. He sounds like the kind of skilled griefer who knows how to bring misery to people will being able to claim technical adherence to the rules. Even if this person hasn't done something worthy of an Abuse Report, ignoring this person too could be a good move to save you future grief.

If you can still log into SL, it is simply a ban of some private estate and nothing to worry about at all - definitely not from LL as they would ban you from SL, not just places in it.

It's a blacklist that he's been put on, and there are places in SL that use blacklists as a banlist, even if the person in question has never been there.

Your "friend" sounds like a griefer just trying to cause trouble.

The normal response to griefers from land owners is to ban them and AR them.
If the griefer was a furry hater who took you to a fur club, then it seems natural they would be suspicious of you until they got to know you and found you didnt share his hate views.

This seems both confused and confusing now.

I hate MSN Messenger and haven't used it for years, but surely just knowing somebody's MSN identity doesn't automatically grant them the ability to see whether that person is online in MSN, does it? And knowing the MSN identity, one would hope, doesn't reveal the user's hotmail address unless you tell it to, does it? MSN is a complete steaming pile of crap, but surely it can't be *that* bad.

In any case, it's apparently not the "admins" who've convinced the OP that they're spying on his whole Internet connection, so there's some reason to think they might in fact be acting sensibly. It would be highly instructive to know which regions are participating in this blacklist thing. I mean, if the ban extends to, say, the Luskwood sims or the FurNation empire, it would be quite a different thing than if it's just some random assortment of Furotrash sims.

And now that we know the "friend" not only exposed our OP to in-world trouble, but also pulled him into an MSN mess: yeah, this "friend" is either a clumsy idiot or a griefer idiot. Either way, the OP would do well to back away slowly; it seems pretty unlikely that this friend will end up enriching anybody's SL experience.

So still no word on the sim this happened at?

O and OP I am a furry and the places I hang out at NONE of the admins would do that type of drama.. nor I think anyone I have met there.
O wait this wouldnt be that rainbow furry club? if it is there are WAY less drama furry hangouts on the grid and lots more fun.

Wait? No drama from admins of furry sims? Your joking right? Guess you have never really met any of those people.
