So I am rebuilding my house for the forth time. I do it to learn more. but I was thinking of putting up and pretty fence to add to the look of my house. If most houses on my sim do not use fences but have security that punts you away, Do you think a fence is rude to have? Don't want to look stand offish but it would look awesome around house.

A fence, by all means.

What did you have in mind? White picket? Or rolls of concertina wire and a matching minefield?

(Don't mind me, I'm only kidding).

I have a brick wall against a couple edges of my property for the looks. As long as you don't encroach on the other land, it shouldn't be a problem, nor considered rude.

Banlines are far worse /

As long as you are not on a private island. It is your land do what you think looks best.

Fences don't look bad per se... that is, unless it's concrete and concertina wire ;)

Fences are nice; they add to the look of the place and hint at wanting privacy without the horrible ban lines. Go for it!

How about an electric fence with *SHOCK* AO that includes electric spark particles eminating from the Avi's body?

In damage allowed areas the Avi would also be killed and sent home. :(

I agree it's not rude at all. :)

I have some publicly accessible lands where privacy is not an issue, but I still plan to put up a small fence on one and sculptie hedges on the other. They will have openings for people to walk through, and are meant more to show visitors the boundaries between my public lands and the private lands around me.

As long as you make an effort to make the fence attractive, I'm sure your neighbors will have no objection. :)

Ban lines drive me nuts. Megaprim walls drive me nuts. But a fence? Not rude at all.

Good fences make good neighbors.

Really good fences make corpses.

*giggle* Fences are no more rude than having part of your wall there. Besides, we can all fly. Ban lines are rude.

I think a fence is Much better. As long as it isn't the type to Obstruct your neighbors View. As to how well Wanderers will respect it, i cannot say, But a politely worded private property sign should keep out most of them. The ones who would Violate it are also the ones who would be looking for methods of violating your security system as well, and there really isn't much you can do about them.

Hehe

I will make a pretty brick with rodiron topper or hedge. Thank you all. We are not allowed ban lines so felt a bit odd making a fence but with the manor it will be pretty.

Adding a fence to your SL property is just a prop--there is no symbolic meaning that should be drawn from this. That is, unless your property line doesn't allow strangers past the fence line...

Fences are nice. Personally I prefer either Heart Garden topiary hedges or using Keith Extraordinaire's tree 'privacy screens'.

I don't want people going in our house ... I have an orb if there's no ban lines, the house is our private space.

I don't think anyone would find it stand-offish to have a fence. If you are stuck for textures IM me in world, I have some full perm ones I can share with you no doubt :)

Lately I found a plot with ban lines around it and things called "nukes" evenly spaced along the inside of the banlines (scripted objects with flashing lights). I tried several ways to jump into the ban lines to find out what harm the "nukes" would do to me, but I didn't succeed.

A nice fence, hedge, or even a wall; textured like say an estate wall, are nice complementary pieces to a yard. They could be considered ornaments. I don't see them as rude in any way; unless the a designed to be so. A bounce you off SL ban line is extremely rude. Nothing like flying along minding your own business when bump, and your logged off.

I don't mind pretty fences as long as they are not RIGHT up on the property line. Just as in real life, unless my neighbor's fence is tied to mine, I put it just inside my property line. If you can't see the yellow, it's not being neighborly, IMO.

Fences are no problem.... specially not on the main land.

I have around my house fences from bamboo and hedges....

Eh, even in RL I have a hedge around my garden!!!!

The missus and I have a fence of sorts around our home, but it's mostly just to help me remember where our property lines are....and to keep the "pets" from wandering off. Ask Ava G what I mean. :D

and even if you are on a private island its ok too.
we have a low brick wall surrounding our property, and out landlord has no complaints.
unless your landowner specifies, i see no problem with it enjoy!

p.s. we also have it to keep our umm "pets" from wandering off.......

lol

Yes! To the fences.

coco

P.S. Oh, and a nice thing to do if you have the space is to put your fence a few feet/meters INSIDE your property lines, with trees, etc., on the outside. Looks like for your house, and looks nice for the neighbors. (Makes their yards look bigger.)

I see you've never been a professional grave robber *smirks*

A fence is good symbolically; but, without a means to enforce it, it is totally useless. Most newbies and even some oldbie will totally ignore it.
