Gosh I feel a bit awkward making a thread about this but I think it needs to be addressed.
My niece is now on the teen grid and I was assisting her with her account settings this afternoon. Well under her account on SL website she hits community then goes directly into these forums :0 Now I certainly do not want her to see this crap. Don't even know if I can post here anymore? I am sure I will but I am hesitant. I had a talk with her and she really has no interest in the forums but what about the other teens? Is SL going to do anything about this glitch?

I don't believe it's a glitch, these forums are for ALL Slers, not just MG.

Helping to drive this home is the fact that these forums are supposed to be PG, I believe that's somewhere in the rules.

Of course, as usual, I could easily be wrong.

ETA:: In my opinion, it's also a bit of an overreaction.. I've been using these forums (And indeed, the main grid) since I was freshly 17, and have been in far worse places since I was 13 and I'm fine (According to most people, I think. I hope.)

Of course, I'm not a parent and cannot know what goes on in the mind of a parent (Well..not completely anyway), but I think that it's fine, generally. 13-15 is a little to young, but generally they're going to see/hear this crap anyway, online, or at school, or whatever, unless you keep them in a bubble. Denying that is just silly in my opinion, and in general these forums are a very tame place, and really quite nice.

Jeez see I never knew that wow makes you think about what we do here.
But I thought in the past a few months ago there was a teen here and a Linden came in and helped them get where they needed to be I may be wrong of course. But if it was for everyone wouldn't we see more teens posting or are there? Just so not comfortable.

I've seen teens post here and be moved off the main grid, but I'm unsure if they've actually been removed from the forums, honestly.

Maybe there is a teen forum they should be able to get to, maybe not, no idea, never been on the teen grid side of things =/

I guess it may be a large part of me thinking I dont want her to know my business with SL although I share some things with her how to build basic things. But I would certainly want to know if I am interacting with a teen on the forum.

Wait... do teen-gridders simply not use the forums? No one who posts here is on the TG, are they?

there is no mention on being pg anywhere in the guidelines

LL themselves cannot provide a definition of what they consider pg so i go by the MPAA, the ones who started the whole PG thing in the first place

LL do have a funny definition of PG which does not seem to be anything like the film industries version. However it is not written down anywhere so it becomes an arbitrary judgement when a thread or post is reported or if a ResMod/Linden catch sight of it.

I'm picturing a scenario where someone tells their niece or nephew or student what their SL name is and then realizes that the young person can see that they talk about ...um, panties, say, in the forums and feels a bit embarrassed.

Definitely Kaimi, I think it is more about the how the older person feels than how the younger person would feel lol

I really think that most of what we say here is really tame compared to what my daughter says she reads on myspace and facebook.

I once received a pm from someone I suspected of being a teen and contacted both a Linden and a forum moderator. Both implied that teens were not to be in the general forum and that I should file either an AR or if that person was not being disruptive to file a support ticket. I asked that person if they were a young teen and they said they were 18 and I left it at that. But…from the impression I got. Teens are not to be in the General Forums.

Ugh.

So kids with teen accounts can access the general forum? Yes LL should fix that--Although it won't phase most teens, it's not appropriate for LL to allow access to the adult forum where the most immature stuff happens.

but again PG.. thats what they like to say, but that means Parental Guidance, if teens are in fact allowed here there should be a parental figure guiding them

that way if "lil billy" wonders "what the heck is BSDM gor furries" are he is not left in a empty room with a shocked look on his face from a random google page

Dunno about teens in the main forums, but a couple of months ago I asked my son (15) to check*, and at that time there was a separate teen forum which his account logged in to automagically. So unless that has changed, teens have their own forums and shouldn't be here - then again, unverified accounts can post here now, so that might have changed something.

I looked at a couple of posts over his shoulder, but he really wasn't interested and hasn't been back since. (He hangs out mostly on Warhammer and paper modeling forums.)

Hm... I'm not sure whether I'd be creeped out if he read my posts here or not. I'm pretty tame in the forums, and our family's pretty open about off-color stuff, but... at least I'm pretty sure he'd come talk to one of us about it if something bothered him.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure I'd be comfortable if I learned that my mom hung out in the SL forums, and she's well over 18! lol
