From: Yummy Freelunch Id rather read this post than one about pie, and I also didn't have a problem with this post. If someone did, then dont read it, it really isnt hurting anyone. QFT I did not read the article, for the same reasons posted by FD, too many nightmares and such But with being the way the forums have been going, I see no reason this thread should not be here If wedding planning, pie polls, cheesecake conundrums, cheesecake and pie confusion, and strangely enough a policing the forums thread, are all seemingly accepted and have nothing to do with questions about SL, then why on earth would this one be picked out and picked on... is it because it is a slap in the face from the real world? *sigh* I was not gonna say anything but... ya know me... got to stick my nose in when it pertains to someone being told that they can not or should not post something here. oh and yeah feel free to throw pot-kettle-black at me and quote scripture... neither will bother me much, cuz I am neither a pot, a kettle or a christian

From: VooDoo Bamboo You know I need to say something here most of the time I keep my mouth shut around here and let some of you "holly SL rollers" think your god and all that and say what you will because one I don't loose sleep over it and 2 what ever turns your crank but this does not even have anything to do with me, its about a little girl and your still acting like a noob. One of the things I have always enjoyed about SL is the people and I am sorry but some of you in this forum really give SL a bad name. There are other words for it but I would rather not get myself banned and your not worth the ban.
That being said you wonder why this forums has rather died and why people hang at other forums outside the real SL forum? Or better yet you wonder why we now have a mod who goes around moving and removing threads?
Or better yet you wonder why the mods will not longer kiss your rear end like your gods around here and answer your childish questions.... Reflect back on this post and your comments and then ask yourself why some more. I am rather shocked they have not just closed this down yet but I guess they don't want to let a few bad apples destroy it for everyone else. I guess I should have said "pie" some place in here to make it ok.
And by the way for the people who sent me some private IM's just now thank you. There are alot of us who feel that way too.
Have a great day! Wow. This is a phobia I have never seen before. You have no compuctions about quotation marks, question marks, exclamation points, or even, elipses, but you seem to have an unnatural fear of commas. I am not normally a grammar nazi(I can't afford to be, as mine is certainly not above reproach), but dang, that was just odd.

I did look at the story, it's very sad but this isn't the place to post it. Bad things are happening all over the real world but we don't have threads here on Iraq, Tibet or whatever, do we?

From: Rhaorth Antonelli is it because it is a slap in the face from the real world? )
I definitely think that is part of it. When we had a General Discussion Forum and an Off-Topic Forum - A large number of the General Discussion posters largely avoided the off-topic forum. The off-topic forum was one where crime and politics and religeon and pie and cake and most sillyness lived. Its quite possible more people can handle sillyness next to something frivolous like Second Life (which of course next to RL, it is.) ... While things that are deadly serious - like RL crime - are harder to take in the same forum.

From: Yummy Freelunch I did read that article last night...so sad, Voodoo..I know, sometimes it seems like the world is just crazy, and upside down. But, Id rather read this post than one about pie, and I also didn't have a problem with this post. If someone did, then dont read it, it really isnt hurting anyone. That is right, but it works both ways. The Op posted. If you don't like it ignore it. If someone posts they didn't like the OP, you can ignore that as well.. I didn't read the article myself, but I didn't have an issue with it. The OP had something they felt was worth sharing, and enough people have expressed that interest so I say it's all good. I haven't been on the forum scene all that long but, but one rule I have is a personal sticky. If you want to ensure there is no possiblity of your idea being challenged on a forum, then don't post it at all. We've seen several cases of people asking for feedback and critiques on their particular project , business or idea, then become defensive , dejected or downright hostile when the asked for opinions didn't suit their agenda. don't ask for opinions if you aren't prepared to hear them. yes , sometimes they were unduly attacked, but that's they way it is sometimes. take what is of value and ignore the rest. I'm probably the worst person to be giving any sort of temperance lecture. This forum is pretty much the only online activity I do that isn't of a reasearch or shopping nature, and even when I step away, the Train Wreck mentality alway makes me poke my head back in, but that's that. And I've done enough bloviating for one day.

From: someone oh and yeah feel free to throw pot-kettle-black at me and quote scripture... neither will bother me much, cuz I am neither a pot, a kettle or a christian Sometimes statements like that make me cringe a bit, especially when they start a post. "I'm probably going to get flamed for this" or "Not to be an AHole but" or "I don't mean to offend, but"...... They usually come off as disingenuously apologetic and patronizing, and sometimes have the same effect as waving a red flag in front of a bull. If your staement can't stand on it's own merits, perhaps it's best left unsaid. *That being said* , Rhoarth is 100% right. I saw nothing wrong with any of those threads being posted here, either including this one. Some of them annoyed me too. I just ignored them.

OMG I am gonna be stuck by lighting now) OMG I just realized someone said I was right... and not just partly right or kinda right... but 100% right does that mean I am all right??? heh

Threads like these explain precisely why the forums need moderation. Because we cannot moderate ourselves.
I have not read the subject article, and I am sure it's sad, but that is not why I come to these forums. With all the different places to post this stuff in, why here?
I have nothing against VooDoo. I don't care enough about other people's drama to give a crap about who's done what. But why come and post this here? Moderate yourself.
Personally, the pie stuff is exhausting to me. I don't really get it and it's crossed the line from being amusing to annoying many a time. Moderate yourself.
Serial abusers for the same reasons - people that like to post thinly veiled advertising, for example - yes, they get no quarter for inappropriate posting because they never learn and don't give a crap about moderating themselves.
People who just like hearing themselves talk and generate a nonsense thread every day... or several, in certain famous cases - Moderate yourselves.
People asking content questions - this at least is SL related, and is, more often than not, an innocent mistake. But for some reason, people here do not bother to point people toward the forums where the experts reside. They keep the conversation going and going here. And so some days this becomes "Resident Textures" instead of "Resident Answers."
One here and there "doesn't hurt anyone." Sure, it lightens things up sometimes. Some are honest mistakes, like the content creation stuff. But the utter disrespect some people have for these forums is incredible. To turn it on its head and fire back at everyone for "being jerks" - grow up. Really. You're an adult. You know what this place is for, you know what the risks are of it closing. You have already turned to other outlets that are less restrictive in posting rules - why come here and post this?
Moderate yourself.

Wow I never expected all this from that post. All I was trying to do was share what I thought was a really touching story going on and to kinda do my part to help out with it. That being said I guess some good came out of it though on this post.
I have received a ton of private messages from this which I also never expected and just wanted to publicly say thank you. It just reminded me of how big SL really is and to not focus just on this little spot of it.
Anyway I am sorry for posting it here and I will not make that same mistake twice.

Well I might as well add this since this post is here anyway... The little girl has passed away. The 10-year-old terminally ill daughter of a prison inmate — who won a battle with his jailers to see her one last time — has died of brain cancer, FOX News has learned. Jayci Yaeger lived long enough to be reunited with her father, Jason Yaeger, earlier this week at a hospice in Lincoln, Neb. Her story prompted a nationwide outpouring of sympathy and pleas to jail officials to let Jason Yaeger be released from a federal prison to see his little girl before her death. Click here to see FOX News' Gregg Jarrett discuss the case. On Wednesday, the family's wishes came true when prison guards escorted Jason Yaeger to the hospice where Jayci lay dying. Jayci, who could not speak, move or eat, could sense that her father was next to her and feel his touch, because she began breathing more heavily during his visit, the family told FOX News. But to their disappointment, the visit lasted only about 30 minutes. Jason Yaeger, who is serving a four-year sentence on drug charges in a federal prison in Yankton, S.D., had appealed to prison authorities and the courts — and even asked President Bush for clemency — to be transferred to halfway house closer to Nebraska in order to spend time with his daughter, who was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. RelatedStories Dad Allowed to Take Leave From Prison to See His Dying Little Girl Video Final Wish He was furloughed after a barrage of letters and phone calls from around the country convinced officials to let him visit the hospital, according to KETV.com. The girl's condition had been described as minute-to-minute, and she recently suffered a stroke. Vonda Yaeger said Jayci went into respiratory distress three times on Thursday. She passed away at about 2 a.m. Friday morning, KOLNKGIN.com reported. The family told that station that they hoped Jayci's father would be allowed to attend her funeral. The Associated Press contributed to this report. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,342794,00.html

From: Brenda Connolly I haven't been on the forum scene all that long but, QUOTE] 9000+ posts in just over a year whats that work out too? Think ya got a book of posts there lol. Long is relative IMO, I first posted in 2005 but would consider you a seasoned poster while I be a noob, at least I keep being corrected as such and reminded of how I should conduct myself. I am in awe of those numbers (and you seem to stay fairly level headed thru it all) I probably would have ripped all my hair out by then ouch .

From: Ricardo Harris Then again it always seems to depend on who the poster is that determines if the post is deemed acceptable or not regardless what the subject happens to be.
OMG!!! Ricardo and I agree on something! I use to believe comments like this were pure balderdash, but not anymore. I knew of this story last week and was furious over it, yet, I don't think RA was the place for Voodoo to post the story. It'd be a mess if everyone filled this forum with news articles they find important, but some people have a lot of nerve attacking him for doing so. Apparently it's ok to fill Resident Answers with threads that are pure nonsense, but it's not ok to post threads about an upsetting and sad story. Color me confused.

~VooDoo I wish there was a place to post stories like this. And the dark night post that just was placed. Yes it is a very touching story, VooDoo I do apologize if I came across as critical of your posting choice here. Its really not that. I'm more frustrated that "officially" the only thing were allowed to talk about is Resident questions. I find it completely silly to limit adults of such a diverse community to such a narrow focus. I was more trying to reason out the "reasons" than trying to judge you for starting the thread, if that makes sense. Anyway, I do apologize. Have a nice night.

The warden is heartless saying it wasn't extraordinary circumstance. Very sad story. They should have a Everything Else section on here where topics of interest or current events like this can be shared.

Anyway, I do apologize. Have a nice night. Same. It's a shame that there is no outlet for this kind of discussion, to allow us to be tighter as a community. But unfortunately, this is the conventional wisdom of the moment.

It's upsetting to hear that the story ended in such a way, even if it was inevitable and expected. While I said above I didn't think this was the place for posting RL news unless it's related to virtual worlds, I'd like to offer a less negative suggestion. I belong to SL profiles, an independent site for SLers. On there it seems perfectly acceptable to blog or message about anything and everything to do with RL or SL. I don't suppose I'm the only resident from the forums who belongs to SL profiles.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who thinks the pie stuff is way overdone. And I never did get it. This isn't the first forum I've been on that mentions pie (and I'm talking non-SL forums). Out of curiosity, where did that forum custom originate?

Just when you think all has been said, Marcel Flatley needs to open his big mouth As for off-topic posting, that is indeed becoming more and more irritating. That includes people thinking its funny to mention pie in about every other post. Its ment to mean indeed a post outlived its usefullness. Then we send in Ann with a pie, and its over. Its not ment to be a topic on its own. Regarding this particular posting, I trhink Voodoo knows by now it wasnt the right place. But I would pretty much have expected other postings to be flames much more. Postings that deserved it much more too. At least Voodoo ment well with this one. On the other hand I don't like any posting about real life shitty things here. There is a lot of misery in the world, but this is Second Life. A place to be away from the real world. That is my main reason not wanting to read about these kind of things here. No matter how bad I feel for the people involved.
