There are so many different keys and controls you can turn on and off to make second life so much better. If you have some to share, please go ahead it would be great. My wife found one that turns off your avi's arms from doing that typing thing when you do open chat (I will have to get that from her later).

Ctrl + Alt + D (Let's you view admin options)
Shift + Cntrl + Alt + = (Turns off particals)
Cntrl + Alt + T (Allows you to see invisible objects/transparnets) I think it's called

I'm trying to think of an answer

command-Q gets you out of the forums quickly?

edit: this is obviously for the Mac and not a PC

PC and Mac shortcut key differences

Shortcut keys differ between PC (Windows and Linux) and Mac in not just Second Life, but across programs in general. You may have noticed in our documentation, PC shortcuts are usually indicated. This isn't done to leave our Mac-using Residents out, because there are Lindens who love Macs too -- it's just for the sake of brevity.

For your convenience, here's a table showing how modifier keys for keyboard shortcuts translate between platforms:
PC Mac
Ctrl Cmd
Alt Opt
Shift (same)
Shift (same)
right-click
right-click, or Cmd-click if you have a single-button mouse

A multi-button mouse with a scroll wheel is more effective with Second Life, since many options, such as the pie and contextual menu, use right-clicking -- Cmd-clicking on a Mac can get tiresome. In addition, a wheel can easily zoom the camera in and out.

Here's an example showing how the View menu's shortcuts differ between a PC on Windows (left) and a Mac:

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/164/352292747_71973d2f88_o.png

Also, on a Mac, you can use System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse to remap them if you prefer. There's more info at Apple's site.

A friend gave me this hint

activate debug (ctrl-alt-d)
select 'view admin options'
Now you can teleport anybody (through profile), even people who selected to not show their online status...

(well you wanted one not everybody needed to know...)

Which is the one that hides all the IM and other typed info in your viewer?

Not sure what you mean, but ctrl-alt-F1 hides the complete UI. (good for snapshots, could be ctrl-shift-F1, i'm not in world to try...)
Remember though, although UI is invisible, it is still responding to clicks, so don't go around right clicking in this mode...

A lot of people don't know of the 'default action' option in the 'general tab' of the edit window.

Tired of always 'right click'->sit on your furniture/poseballs/tp etc. Simply go to edit and set 'default action' of the object to 'sit'. Now you can simply left-click on it.
Also works on linked parts.
Copying the object will reset the setting, but taking/rezzing will keep it set.

I know everyone else acts like the typing anim is the worst thing since VAT, but in addition to thinking it's cute, and just sooo SL, I think that it makes communication much clearer and easier.

Without it, how many times would people just walk away from you because they just thought you were staring at them, when in actuality you were trying to finish typing a sentence?

I'm usually buried in so many script and IM windows that if it weren't for the "I'm typing" sound, I wouldn't even know that someone had walked up to me! It's a keeper! :)

I wish i could replace it with huge honking noises in those cases. I've missed hearing the 'tap tap tap', while concentrated on 5 scripting window + IMs + other stuff open a little bit too often.
;(

(One of the reasons I tend to work 700m up)

This is also a way of making fun objects to 'swallow' someone, put them in a weird pose or TP them unexpectedly if they click around the screen like they're in an adventure game.

I agree with you myself on this one, her reasoning is she changes what she is going to type a lot and I could imagine that makes her avi look like shes typing a novel. To each their own!

That's very funny. I accept that as a good reason to remove the typing!!
