"Release Keys" and attachments

Suddenly my favourte attachments (HUDDLES EZ Animator Deluxe, MystiTool HUD and VISTA AO) are all making the "Release Keys" tab appear on loading.
By reflex, I am eventually clicking the tab which results in the immediate detachment of ALL loaded attachments - which is _really_ annoying.
A few hours ago all were working perfectly.
I have cleared the cache, stripped my avi of all clothes/attachments/skins/scripts etc but the problem persists.
Anyone one have any ideas?

Patient: Doc, it hurts when I do this! Doctor: Don't do that In seriousness, it might be part of yesterday's snafu. I only get the "Release keys" button on some shoes I have with the walk AO in them. I don't recall seeing it yesterday when I attached my HUD AO, but I could've missed it while I was pulling my hair out trying to delete/rezz/build last night. When I'm able to go in-world again I'll take a look and see if I can find anything helpful. In the meantime, just try not to click it (I have also, and you're right, it's annoying). One thing that might help you in the meantime, to put things all back on when accidentally removed: Attach and wear whatever you normally do (from clothing to hair to huds to jewelry if any), go into edit appearance and "Make a new outfit". Save as allows you to name a folder. I'd name it "! Avatar !" or something similar (the exclamation points to keep it at the top, or near the top, in your inventory) This way if you accidentally (or intentionally) change into another avatar or skin or whatever you have a very fast way to go back to yourself by dragging that folder over yourself. Good luck

Deandra,
Many thanks for your reply.
In general I have a "Body" folder which contains my "normal" shape, skin, hair, eyes, and "must-have" attachments.
In addition I have several/many! "Outfit" folders which contain the clothing, specific hair styles etc for my current mood/venue.
When changing outfits, I "add" the new outfit folder, wait for rexz to get well underway and then "take off" the old folder... simply because it seems bad to suddenly appear naked (and 100% bald!) in the middle of a shop or club!
I will continue playing around with this, but I think I have tried every combination I can currently think of - even if I go back to "monkey-man" and add any HUD based attachment I am getting the Release Keys tab.
Of course, if I come across a solution I will post it here -- I really can't be the only citizen to be seeing this problem - so I would hope to help others.

Any time a scripted item starts monitoring your movements via llTakeControls, the "release keys" button will appear. So it will *always* appear for AOs, because they have to monitor your keys to tell when you're moving around. Ditto for anything that includes a flight assist, which I think MystiTool does.

This may be new bug. I have a Pyske's Personal Security HUD and it has never displayed Release Keys before yesterday when I attach it to HUD - Bottom Right, now, I have same affect as you! If I attach it, then log out and return login, the HUD is still there but no release keys, and it works.

I've never noticed this with ZHAO or other HUD-based AOs..
Could it be that the Release Keys button only shows up when a non-HUD script calls llTakeControls?

ZHAO and Release Keys

I have a ZHAO - AO that is also affected. I didn't notice it because it is almost always attached and the release key does not appear if I log on with the HUD already attached. Right after the update though I tested my swimmer which replaces the ZHAO HUD in the lower right and when I put the ZHAO - AO -HUD back on the release key appeared, and continued to appear every time I put it on, until I log out, and back in with the HUD attached.

A brief in-world test showed that of my 5 AO HUDS that "attach to HUD point, (from franimation to wet ikon to zhao etc) none showed the Release Keys button.
Attachments to body points (ie. shoes that included a free walk animation) did in some cases, but not others.. The difference must then be either in the scripting in the shoes that had that button pop up, or the fact that they're attached to body points rather than the HUD attachment points (lower left, lower right, etc).

Anyone one have any ideas? Heh. I have the opposite problem. I have Mystitool and an abranimations Couples Animator and I'm used to *always* seeing "release keys," which is missing now. o.O

Could there be something in our individual settings that's doing this? Hmm

From: Deandra Watts Abranimations couples animator I don't think that one calls llTakeControls - it's not an AO. So.. The Release Keys button doesn't show up if you log in with something attached (HUD or not) that got the permissions before you logged out?

I'm so non techy, you may as well have said that in dutch. Whether I log out, clear cache and log back in with it attached or unattached (as well as any of my other HUD AOs attached to the screen (rather than the av, for lack of a better way to explain myself), none of those show the release keys key. Wow, I've just confused mySELF. new low, watts.. new low....

It also seems other HUD's exhibit identical behaviour. 1. Detach the HUD. 2. Attach the HUD, the release keys button appears. The Psyke's psHUD never had release keys shown before the 13/6/07 update. 3. Log out with HUD still attached. 4. Log back in. The HUD is still attached and release key button not there. If the HUD is detached and attached, the release keys button appears again.

It's not a bug.
I've finally found the answer to this.. at some point in a previous update, the Lindens patched SL so that any script which takes over your controls is immune to No-Script areas.
The intent was that you be able to fly a vehicle through a No-Script area without it crashing horribly because it's unable to propel itself when its scripts can't run. But the actual effect has been that some gadget makers have made their gadgets take your controls, even though they aren't needed, simply in order that their gadgets can carry on working in No-Script areas.
I don't know if that applies to the specific items named in this thread, but I know it does apply to some items of this general type.

I've used ZHAO since I joined SL back last October, and it's always had the release controls button showing. Not sure why people say it didn't used to show, they probably just never noticed it.

hmm, maybe it has to do with the version of the overrider. Only thing I could think of to explain why some see it and some don't. /me shrugs.

I've noticed recently that if I log in with ZHAO attached, I don't get the button. If I detach/reattach it, I get the button.

It's something to do with the last update (not including yesterday/today's borked release). My Causual Guy AO suddenly started showing release keys after that update when it never had before. The workaround described here fixes that but now I can't get the AO hud to stay where I want it. It keeps moving to where it was originally attached no matter how many times I edit it's placement. Also, since the last update my Mr. P's Affection hud is completely broken. It will load but I can't select animations from it's menu system. I'm waiting until after tomorrow to see if it's as magically fixed as it was wrecked and if not, I guess I'll be contacting the creator or biting the L bullet once again. The L bullet bite is getting harder and harder to take with each update though.

i have mr p's power pack, bear, and it's been acting strange for a few updates.
sometimes it's fine. othertimes, my avi jumps or shudders while kissing, hugging, etc.
i IMed the creator about this to see if he is aware of any problems. but no answer. sigh.
