I got a couple of them too. I'm wondering now how many of my offline IM's have been eaten by SL over the years. From: Nad Gough Though it's affecting gazillions of users and wreaking havoc on the space time continuum of dependable electronic communications, I see no mention of this on the Grid Status page, and no indication anywhere that someone is looking into this to correct the problem.
Given the lack of acknowledgment, I'm wondering if we can expect a fix or explanation or something. http://status.secondlifegrid.net/2009/12/09/post832/ http://status.secondlifegrid.net/2009/12/09/post832/

Got one last nite from the person I was dickering with about a plot I was going to buy. I checked and last conversation was 11/3/09 with them. Lol. Yah I got excited for a minute And this morning I had some real wierd ones from my friend and she IMd me and asked the same thing. Cause she got a ton from me but they were old too.

TODAY I am getting IMs from confused tenants about IMs that I sent them TWO weeks ago. So the problem is obviously still happening.
I'm sending a notice out to all my current residents explaining why I sound like a crazy person.

Getting old IM's too. Hope no one gets upset and divorces their partner because they didn't read the date. I can see these things causing problems for some people. People that thought they were being ignored, vendors replies very late upsetting their customers.

From the status blog:- From: someone We have had reports of old IMs, some as old as 2 months, reappearing in chat as if they were just resent. We want to assure residents we believe this is a technical problem and not associated with anything intentional or malicious. We are investigating the cause and if you wish to send in a support ticket with your experience we will pass that information on to the investigative team. I can't verify that the ones I've received are old ones resent, or old ones that I never received before, but some posts in this thread report recently sent ones that have just arrived, so those people should know whether they are repeats or not.

From: Wildefire Walcott I'm sending a notice out to all my current residents explaining why I sound like a crazy person. All the reasons, or just one? This is happening to me, too. It just started yesterday; I'm getting old IMs from others, and notes from others who are getting them from me. Happening on my main and one alt that I use enough to get any IMs. (The others are more like crash test dummies.)

At least one of the three I got last night was one that was both a month old, and never before seen by me. The other two might be ones that were resent. I am not sure.

This would probably explain the second WTF IM I got yesterday. One was clearly responding to an IM I sent awhile back and the person had replied back then (but now had no clue what the context was). The other was one *I* did not know the context for (and from someone who I had not talked to in IM for weeks).
Most of these miscommunications misfires are just 'huh?' things. But what about the ones that have detrimental effects because someone thought it was an answer to something else?
Maybe this is the SL equivalent of 'the dog ate my homework'?

*shudders* Haha, I actually was thinking about that earlier today. It is certainly a possibility if any SLers have passed away in recent weeks; IMs from beyond the grave. *shivers*

Maybe part of a new roadmap. Maybe LL is testing the air in antique markets and thinking about a 10L$ fee for every really old IM. Or the universe starts to shrink and we are moving backwards in time.

I bet these are IM's that have certain words arrangered in certain patterns to make the G suspicious. They've probably been sent off to the NSA for deciphering.

Keep in mind that it's possible to completely miss IMs, most notably, if they come when you're crashing but SL hasn't figured that out yet. I'm sure you've posted "what did I miss while crashing" IMs before!
