..sorry I was hungry hehe
the plates might have a temp rez script? so as someone is eating.. the food unrezes.. then the plates. I have a set like that myself along with glasses

and it saves on the washing up too :)

may i ask if these plates of food came with a placemat? if it did its not you(although the table leg vanishing is odd), could be the script in the food or plates that only allow so much time before they de rez(kinda like CAS's place matted foods or Home Depots dinners).

There's, uh, probably a lot of things you didn't know about lindens. Another, another interesting, uh, lindenism, uh, there are only three jobs available to a linden. The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

It all happened back in the Great Asset and Sim Server Meltdown of 2008, yep back then everything used to go wonky, shonky and downright odd until the Great Land Crash of 2008 kicked in. After that people plumb forgot about using the land and was only interested in its resale value. *shakes head, mumbling* Crazy times, craaaaazy times!

This just gets weirder. Now my best-selling bed disappeared -- but I can still stand on it, lol!

I asked a customer if she could see the missing table leg, and she could. Then I took her down to where the food should be, and lo and behold, there it was -- even I could see it.

Then I discovered that I could see things "in person" that I could not see with my camera alone -- except the bed, which I can't even see when jumping on it.

There is no temp-rezzing -- I made every enchilada personally, and all the food has is a steam script and a give fork (or chopsticks) script.

This has got to be graphics card thing, doesn't it? I have an Intel iMac, but I am not sure what the graphics card is. I thought it was a pretty good one until now. This happens even when I first log on, so I don't think the card is overheating, though.

I guess if my customers can see stuff, I should just be grateful for that. But I can't take pictures, etc.

Anyone who figures this out, I have a nice dining room of your choice waiting for you!

Perhaps your graphics card is running out of memory - there might be too many textures being loaded at once - try lowering the amount of graphics memory assigned to SL in Preferences->Graphics and see if that changes anything?

Try unchecking Advanced / Rendering / Object-Object Occlusion when you don't see something that should be there (and that other can see but you can't) if you're using the 1.19.1 Windlight viewer.

Beyond that, if you're using the windlight viewer, trying using the non-windlight viewer (as long as you install it to a different location you should just be able to use them side-by-side) to narrow it down to a viewer bug or something else.

I have dining tables laid out with plates of food. The food regularly disappears from the tables, and I can't find out why. I can't rez new plates of food, either.

I thought I'd found the answer yesterday when I logged out of the Onrez viewer and into the SL viewer, and there were all the plates of food plus all those I had tried to rez.

But after a while, the food disappeared again.

Also now I am noticing a chair leg, for example, will go missing.

I have cleared the cache, to no avail.

Anyone have a clue why these things are disappearing, and why it's almost always the cheesecake and the steak dinners?

Thanks!

*nervous with frosting on her nose*
I HAVEN'T the slightest idea and was nowhere around when it hoppon!!

Just for my own curiosity, would this be related to the disappearing skirt bug?

What are your system specs? (type of processor, clock speed, amount of memory, make and model of video card, amount of video ram, video driver version, etc.)

If you rez these objects in a sandbox or other area not where the problem has been happening, does the problem happen?

I was using Onrez when this started happening, then switched to the older SL viewer. Now I am on the new SL viewer. I made the change suggested above, but I still can't see things with my camera that I can see with my eyeballs, but at least I can see them.

So since it happens on 3 different viewers, I don't think that's the problem.

I did turn down the graphics memory, but when I got on the new viewer, all my beautiful, carefully textured vases just looked gunmetal gray. Ugly! And I must have 50 of them!

I turned the graphics memory back up but everything is still ugly.

That's a different thread, I know, so I will shut up about that.

Ahh the vases looked ugly but did the food rezz at that point? Even if it was grey?

I have a 2 ghz Intel Core duo and 2 G of memory

I don't know what a clock speed is.

I think the graphics care is an ATI Radeon 1600. It is built in. Driver is 1.00.068. My son tells me I can't update it because it is already updated and is built in. (But he may be telling me that to shut me up about it.)

VRAM is 256 MB

I didn't have any problem with things disappearing until a couple of months ago, but then it was just a few things -- always small things, and they would reappear in a couple of hours.

Feels like something is failing, but I can't imagine what.

You could try upgrading the graphics drivers to the latest for your graphics card. Perhaps an viewer update exposed a bug in your present drivers that the previous viewers did not.

Using my camera alone, I can't see what I rez (but I hear the sound of it rezzing) -- but if I walk into the room now, I can see it, right where I rezzed it.

It will be a pain having to drag my avi around after me everywhere I go, and she is always in the way when I am building. (And then she takes credit for everything I build!)

My question is still: What is it about the food that makes it invisible (and about that bed for a while)? It must have something to do with small things using large textures.

I'm not sure if that's what you've been saying all along, but it certainly wasn't obvious to me that you were rezzing things with the camera (relatively) far away from your avie :o.

If that's the case then what you're running into is normal behaviour. Small objects won't be rendered when they're a certain distance for performance's sake. The distance tends to vary based on the size of the object/linkset, happens well within your draw distance and depends on whether you moved away or towards the object (if you're moving away from it, you'll see it from further away than if you're moving towards it).

It's relatively easy to check if that's what you running into: move your avie to a spot where you can no longer see a plate of food with the camera alone, but keep the camera focused on all of the the table regardless. Meanwhile have someone else who is "physically" near the table simply right-click on a plate and pick "Edit". The plate will reappear for you for a few seconds (or even just a split second) and then vanish again.
