I have dining tables laid out with plates of food. The food regularly disappears from the tables, and I can't find out why. I can't rez new plates of food, either.
I thought I'd found the answer yesterday when I logged out of the Onrez viewer and into the SL viewer, and there were all the plates of food plus all those I had tried to rez.
But after a while, the food disappeared again.
Also now I am noticing a chair leg, for example, will go missing.
I have cleared the cache, to no avail.
Anyone have a clue why these things are disappearing, and why it's almost always the cheesecake and the steak dinners?
Thanks!

First thing to check is the land set or deeded to a group, are you wearing the correct group tag when rezing the objects and is auto-return set?

I've heard that the Lindens released a bunch of mice on the grid to clean up all the leftover prims...

Also, check to make sure the places are not set as "temporary" by right-clicking on one, going into edit, and looking for the "temporary" clickybox under the "object" tab.

I would bet you need to make sure you have the right group activated when you put out the food. Either that or the hungry hungry (hippos) in your friends list

Are all the plates of food are still taking up prims?
Can other people see them while you can't?
Can you see them when you turn on View / Highlight Transparent?
Do things vanish while you look at them, or do they vanish when you have your back turned? (With the latter you could be running into an occlusion bug in which case you can try unchecking Advanced / Rendering / Object-Object Occlusion)

From: Dekka Raymaker OMG someones eating your food??? Was it porridge? and.. omg.. did someone sleep in one of your beds too? I've heard of this before... I've noticed using the 1.19.1.4 RC viewer that if you stay logged in for a long time and you haven't faced something in a while, when you do it'll have to rez itself again, and the texture too. There was a bug in an older viewer that did this, but a lot worse and people bitched. I wonder if it's silently crept back into the workings. dunno.

Ha. Ha. Like I haven't heard the mice jokes before (but actually hadn't heard the 3 bears one). C'mon, this is serious! After getting hit with the land devaluation, I have to make some money here! I have to put food on the table somehow!
The food doesn't show up when I highlight transparent (but then they aren't transparent), and it doesn't show up when I Show My Objects. In fact, a lot of the chairs only show one leg highlighted when I show my objects.
They aren't temporary items because sometimes they come back, and temporary isn't checked anyway.
I use the same tag to rez everything.
I just rezzed a setting for two in my rooftop workshop, and it did fine. Went down and tried
to rez it on a dining table, and there was nothing but the sound of rezzing.
Plus the food in the other rooms doesn't disappear nearly as much. It's something about this room, I think.
I use pretty large textures -- is this my punishment for that, do you think?

Does your room use any mega-prims? I've noticed that it's hard to rez stuff directly on a mega-prim.

From: Dekka Raymaker that would be a big plate of food LOL. It's dragon food, silly! Oh whoops, that would be people. In any case, I just meant that rezzing any object onto a mega-prim can be odd. I get the "rezzing sound" but nothing ever appears. I have to create a normal prim as a platform.

P.S.
I just moved one of the dining tables to another room on the other side of the store -- a new part with little in it so far -- and tried rezzing the plates of food there. Nope.

There is a large prim on the floor of the room the table was in, but not in the room I just tried it in.
Wow, I seem to have a really unusual problem here. Just my luck!

Yes, this is pretty strange.
OK, let's rule out whether or not things are getting auto-returned. Have you checked you lost and found folder recently? Are the missing food items there?

I went up to the rooftop again, and the food rezzed, so I brought it down and put it on the table. Who knows how long it will stay?
Anyway, certain parts of the first floor, I can't rez food on, but I can rez furniture on. But I can rez anything on the third floor.
Now try to figure that one out!

Is it possible you are using some temp rezzer that is taking up to many prims?

Not being able to rez and having something vanish after rezzing it are two wildly different problems though. Unless I missed it you never pointed out whether other people can see the things that vanish for you and whether things are still taking up prims on your land after they have seemingly vanished.

Ahh good one. I was thinking that it'd be a good idea to check about land and see if there's tons of prims showing as sat on too.
