Waiting for Nicholaz to fix the Windlight viewer too?

And as long as you're not using the German version of the viewer (seriously, who DOES? it's like linguistic torture...), there's NO security issue to bother about.

Second Life (Nicholaz Edition) 1.18.6 (76116) Dec 22 2007 13:10:11 (SecondLife Nicholaz NICHOLAZ_VERSLONG Edition) EC-b
Does what I want it to do!

So even though SL refused logins using that version (whatever day it was) and they pulled the download for it, I really can still use it? After they yanked it, I didn't actually try again, I just downloaded the latest/greatest and figured I had to use that one.

So.... if I have already installed Windlight 1.18.6.76453 can I easily put back the 1.18.6.76116?

[edit] I do still have the download for the lower release, so that isn't an issue. [/edit]

I suppose if you deinstall the new version properly and just reinstall the old one and reinstall the Nicholaz files, yes.

My fear is that uninstalling the Windlight version will somehow screw up the install of either the Official release or the Release Candidate, even though they all install into their own directories. I never trust the Windows Registry. Maybe I'll get brave and give it a go. Worst case is I have to reinstall everything again.

I had an old version of SL in Program Files\SecondLife and a newer version with Nicholaz BE-s in Program Files\SecondLifeRC. I went into Program Files\SecondLife, clicked on Uninstall.exe, it said "this will uninstall Second Life from Program Files\SecondLife, I said "yes" (FOOL that I am!) and it promptly uninstalled everything in SecondLifeRC as well.

Why am I even surprised?

First, SL never refused to log me in using 76116, it just gave me a message that a newer version was available.

The newest version has proved to be, for me at least, a big step backward. It has a big memory leak, and produces Out of Memory and Stack Heap collision crashes on a frequent basis.

Last night, I reinstalled 76116. Since you still have the download, it's easy! Just run the .exe file for that installer, and it will install over even a new version just fine.

I then downloaded and installed Nich's EC-b patch. WONDERFUL! For one thing, the viewer now actually recognizes the correct amount of video RAM on my system (320 MB, not the more usual 256 or 512). My viewer settings were AUTOMATICALLY optimized for my hardware. My teleports were reliable, and MUCH faster than under any Windlight version released so far. Textures loaded faster, and my framerate was up, too. (although that might've been because I pegged the bandwidth slider).

Best of all, I ran for about four hours until finally crashing out. The crash was a much more "normal" one, the sort I've come to expect when using Nich's patches. Sudden, but clean.
