No more! Yayness!!!!!! /me does many happy dances I'm so happy, the Windlight Imposters are faster for me in crowds, but it was slower overall, now it's back to as fast as Nick's earlier viewers! The IM window doesn't cover half my screen anymore, friendslist can be taller than wide and separate from IMs. No more attachments where they don't belong on TPs... We can double-click to wear things again... (Sometimes it's the little things...) I even ran in world just to see it running, despite not having time today, LOL There are SO many other things fixed and improved, can read the full list of changes from the experimental stuff here: http://nicholaz-beresford.blogspot.com I am so, so happy!

How hard is it to install a Nicholaz viewer? I've considered it, and I went to his website to download it, but it looked more complicated than I expected.

From: Slim McGinnis How hard is it to install a Nicholaz viewer? I've considered it, and I went to his website to download it, but it looked more complicated than I expected. Simple. Just extract it to your SL directory, and create a shortcut from the exe to your desktop. I can do it, so can you.

*plays around with it a bit and then comes back* Oh, thank goodness and Nicholaz for this! I can use Windlight again and not have to turn off the idiotic VBO! See, told them it was the client and not the drivers.. although if you're running the ATI drivers, 7.12 is finally out. (I installed the drivers after trying the EC Windlight.)
It's really nice to be able to actually tweak the performance up to get 'normal' levels of lag!

Hmm well I'm sure running the Nicolaz version of windlight instead of SL beta version helps LL believe it's working ok

EDIT: He already made a version for the new Windlight, so my link below is old although it still works. He also has a direct link to the new one in his blog, so it'll be there for next time they change it too. http://firstlook-secondlife-com.s3.amazonaws.com/Second_Life_1-18-6-75762_WindLight_Setup.exe (And thankfully with Nick's other fix, disabling forced updates, it still works wonderfully too!) I'm such a fan, LOL If any kind person would post that link to Nick's blog, I can't see the "visual verification" there nor even hear the non-visual option...

The download link to the original WL client somehow doesn't work for me. I downloaded one off BitComet, and uploaded on the megaupload. here is the link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=X9W222EI

From: Slim McGinnis How hard is it to install a Nicholaz viewer? I've considered it, and I went to his website to download it, but it looked more complicated than I expected. Sounds harder than it is. 1. Install your standard SL viewer software (or, more likely, it's installed already). 2. Download the Nicholaz version that's compatible with your SL software version. 3. Unzip the downloaded files to the specified directory (Program Files\Second Life, as I recall). Done.

You have no way of verifying the source. The client could be hacked and it may send your password to Freddy Krueger.

LOL so, for those of us who require "Downloading and Installing Basic Software for Dummies"... even those of us who are embarrassed to ask and secretly hoping someone else will... can we get a more detailed description of hwo to do this darn thing?... pweeze *with naive and innocent smile attached*

okay , wait..... i just reread some posts, and it says to open one compatible. so, if i am at version 1.18.2 (1) with SL, i must also use that same version with Nicholaz in order for it to work? so, i can't use the windlight unless i am using it (already) with SL? and if 1.18.2 (1) is wut i am trying to match, which of these do i choose? http://www.blueflash.cc/users/nicholaz/OldSchool/~previous-versions/

We're up to what now, 1.18.3.5? You'll have to read Nick's blog to pin down the patch compatible with your current software. But if it were me, I'd download the latest WL viewer from Linden, and install Nick's WL patch. Windlight, being First Look, will install to its own directory, and create its own desktop shortcut. So you can still go back and use your old viewer any time you like.

I don't think there is a Nick viewer for the latest release yet I use it on the old standard viewer so my lap top can run SL as well... was excited to see the experimental file but it seems LL put to many out to fast to keep up with.

Well HoneyBear, that is kind of hard to answer without knowing what kind of jewelery you are wearing Certain jewelery will exactly be floating there with a fixed viewer By the way tell me your secret, as I could never get used to a boot up my ass... well never mind Cheers, Marcel

All of the ones in his Old School download directory are for 1.18.0.xx, and I'm not even sure you can still log in with any of those. The ones he referred to as Bleeding Edge are supposed to be 1.18.1.xx and up, excluding the Windlight. However, the oldest BE that I found in the downloads is BE-n and that is for 1.18.3.4. The latest is BE-v and is for the current Official release of 1.18.5.3. If you really still want to use the version you have, you could contact him and see if you can get the proper matching BE version from him. The latest Eye Candy version (for Windlight) is EC-b and is for version 1.18.6.76116, which (I think) is the one they pulled recently because of the security issue.
