Autoreturn should default to 1 minute, not 0, to stop negligent owners and limit griefing powers.

I just jira'd this.

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-695

Not having autoreturn on is one of my biggest irritants. Thanks for doing this Cristalle.

Most of the time people just don't know about it.

Don't sweat it. It willl never ever happen.

I just wanted it as an extra stick to beat negligent land owners with.

Because there is a mindset among a sizable minority that think everyone should adhere to a particular way of thinking and if they don't then penalize them to bring them in line with the "correct way". Fast food having to label fat content, seat belt laws, mandatory neutering of pets, cell phone laws in public places........to name a few are forms of this way of thinking. Instead of using common sense and information to correct the "problem", make a law.........and use fines and penalties to enforce it.

That's as unlikely to happen as a fee for leaving auto-return disabled.

Why? Because it would seriously curb the influx of new legitimate residents. You know, the ones that are excited about SL and like buying things or renting their first land.

Without that constant influx of new blood, SL businesses are going to dry up... we don't buy enough from each other to sustain a 'closed' community.

And when SL businesses start collapsing in left and right, it will seriously harm how much revenue LL generates too.

They know who brings money to SecondLife. It's not the oldbies that merely move money around to cover tier and take their profits... it's the newbies that keep this place afloat.

Closing that door would turn this place into a ghost town. Sure it might have less lag & less grief. It'll also have less life.

I was here in SL long before free accounts. One simple thruth is often overlooked. We had grid crashing griefers back then too. I have never seen numbers on it but I suspect the percentage of griefers hasn't changed all that much. Just the total numbers of people so its more noticable.

I bemoan the freebie accounts because of the stress the high concurrency puts on a tottering system but as for griefers I am not all that certain it made that big a difference.

The college kids are back in school

Colleges have high speed internets ...

What did you think these kids would be doing, their homework?

*grins*
Mostly likely not...

But I can judge about other schools, but at my daughters school it is impossible to install something on the local or network computers, not even to mention to run programs as Second Life.

Apart from that it is closely monitored what happens on the schoolnetwork. This I know because a certain letter I recieved one day telling me that my daughter tried to access MSN services through some website :P.

Sigh, more stuff being done by someone named Carpool. The "an object owned by ... would like to animate your avatar" again.

Zzzzzzzz.....

I was thinking about the recent spate of greifing just before entering the mainland and finding this tedious and uninspired griefing still going on.

Wondering what would cause this.

I think maybe someone has stopped taking their meds. That might explain the recent apparent bizarre spate of lame griefing.

hehe you must not be in the US - I know PLENTY of college students who cant play when they are home for the sumemr becuase their conenction is too slow.

Though the ones I know use their own computers at college in their room.

As far as the access goes - pretty much unrestricted and unmonitored. Which is just like the access at the community college where I live.

To be fair re: griefers and free accounts- other mmo's who only have pay options also have their share of griefers- griefers who get CC banned and IP banned and email banned and still come back over and over again.

If only colleges would not accept students with a mental age of a 12 year old schoolboy!

Schools would be empty then?

I mean... "misbehaving" during school time doesn't involve for me being "the mental age of 12". Ponder back at your own school time.... Okay, no Internet then (at least in my time). But we had our things as well.

In addition to that... how many of us, use the forums or even play SL during the time of their employee? Many I bet (especially the forums)..... It is all just the same.

Just to add...

Had dis happen again last night, not jes in my home sim but In most of the adjoining ones. The "stop racism" poofer with a shrill clip of "Hava Nagila." There were swarms of these items, on a low point of small plot of Ansche Chung owned mainland, and may others bouncing about the sim. Horrible. Took the region down at least ones last night, as well as the ones surrounding it.

A piccie from last night:
