I found some old pics of the Islandias:

I think this is Islandia South before Anshe redid the canals.

Much of South Islandia looks like this today.

Can I ask a stupid question? Where do I find the maps? I saw them once but I can't remember where. Are they online for download/browsing as well, other than on Flickr? Thanks!

They should be made available inworld I think, I really didn't know where I was until I saw this, not even after 6 months or so of being in SL regular.

It was good to get a footing.

These maps are available inworld at all NCI Campuses and InfoNodes. You can find SLURLs for them at: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/New_Citizens_Incorporated

If you want your own copy, just click on the map and you will get a self-updating copy of the map sent to you.

I post each new update of my maps on the Second Life forums. From there, people are free to repost them wherever they like.

Thanks Carl. Love the maps, and especially appreciate that you let us know when they've been updated, so I know to check whether I need to move "You Are Here" markers (when the maps change scale, etc.).

I try to avoid scale changes between versions, but it is often hard to do, as I try to update the underlying terrain, too.

Very awesome.. these maps are always an cherished asset.

Thank you.

I may be mistaken, but the last time I drove around the roads in Sansara (about a month ago).. the road leading from the Bear Infohub to the Sutherland Dam.. doesn't connect. That last "Y" interesction, and then the northbound road drops off into water.

I will check that out.

I know it's kind of a complex question, but is there any way these road lines could show which roads are "finished" and which roads are just set-aside land? (like the section running through Brolga, for example, totally unpaved). Perhaps with differing colours, with grey denoting "finished road", yellow denoting "partial/damaged road", and red denoting "missing road" That way you'd only need to do the colouring in sim-sized blocks.

The unfinished roads in Heterocera should be indicated by a dotted (as opposed to a solid) line. You may need to zoom in on the map a bit to see the difference. I will look at making that more obvious in future updates

Likewise, it'd be cool if we could tell the difference between roads and railroads.

Railroads are in red; roads are in black.

I'd like to extend a general "thank you" to everyone who said nice things about my maps I didn't reply to individually.

What about those of us that just thought it? 'Cause, you know, I did. I'm sure lots of others did too, and do so whenever you post these map updates, Carl.

I know there is a new rail line through the Snowlands (including one on Linden protected land). Perhaps I should do some investigating.

The maps are very beautiful, Carl. Thank you very much for giving them to us. They do however lack one essential component: a scale. It was something of a shock to realise that what I'd thought of as the vast world of SL is in fact barely the size of a country town.

And I'd like to make a suggestion for an additional feature: an automated "you are here" dot of some sort. I suspect this could be implemented using a dozen lines or so of script.

Ferret approves of the maps and hides them under the fridge.
