It wasn't as bad as it could have been, but interesting how all the pre-show publicity, and all the reviews I've seen since, are all about the couple who didn't make it, with nothing about the couple who met on SL, got married in RL and are now expecting a kid.
But then if they reported it accurately, they couldn't portray us all as sad losers destroying their marriages, could they?
At least I didn't get a 503 on the TV while watching it.

The programme made me squirm a little uncomfortably in my seat.
I'm not sure why - it just did.
The shots of that lady in her bedroom sat at that little desk whilst her family did family things in the background made difficult viewing for me. Made my heart ache a bit if you know what I mean.
I did really enjoy seeing 'our' world on the TV screen though!!

I thought it was great that SL was finally getting some TV time. But I didn't like the show. I think it focused on the negative too much. hmmm.... maybe I shouldn't have let my mum watch it. Now she is convinced that SL is a dating site!(?wtf?) She thinks it was designed as a 3D dating service and she won't listen to anything I tell her otherwise. Oh well lol, she already thinks I'm nuts.

DAMMIT! I can't watch the video!! It sez "You're not in the UK". Well .... DUH!! Oh Well! FWIW- Be glad we dont have Jerry Springer in SL! On 2nd Thought.... it might work? Love Affairs, scams, perverted sex scandals, etc. /me thinks of sending an email to the show producers.

Have to agree with Claire, was great to see SL on TV, but they could have done so much more. Personally, I don't think they explained what SL is well enough, they should have gone into more background detail rather than jumping straight in and giving people a false impression. I also have to say, some of the avs they showed did not have the best AO's etc. All in all, I am glad I watched it, but was sorely disappointed.

At one stage I pointed at the screen and shouted "Noob Walk!" which is made worse by the fact that I live on my own!! In fact, I talk to myself far too much. [no you don't] Yes I do .... etc

The whole show seemed rather fake to me.... especially that woman who ups and leaves her family to visit the guy in the UK (who seemed to have an unhealthy obsession with his moped.. c'mon... get a real bike if you want to look tough).
It all seemed to have been filmed after the event as if it was following them during events..

The panning shots were ok, but i agree, it looked rather fake. They had obviously re-created the first SL meeting, but the rest seemed rather set up too. I don't think it was a fair interpretation of relationships in SL. Did you notice that that woman's son was playing on SL on the laptop in the living room? The guy is saying how his kids complain at him and then it shows the son on SL aswell lol. I found that pretty funny. Also I agree that the ao's were crap. Its ok Sandy, its only when you start _losing_ arguments with yourself that you need to worry. I do that far too often and I am a sore loser lol. I end up not talking with myself for days before I make up with myself and start chattering away before another argument sets in

But you weren't alone Sandy I'd put money on the fact that all of us were yelling at the tv screen about newbie walks at the same time

I just felt so sorry for that womans husband. He seemed like such a nice guy and he had completely lost his wife.
The thing I felt was that, in that particular relationship, the fact that it was Second Life was immaterial. If SL didnt exist he might have lost her to some other hobby like golf or Bridge or .......... golf.
It just seems a shame that, with so many people in the world who don't have a RL partner or kids, somebody who has a loving family 'on tap' chooses to have little to do with them.
Do you think any of them read this forum?
And during that picnic I was willing him to talk to her too!! She's just flown half way round the world to see you and you're looking off into the distance and stealing her sausage rolls. Poor girl!!

Hi Sandy...I felt most sorry for the children...I also have to say I was appalled by the fact that she could sit in well...squalor and leave her kids to feed themselves. (I did notice shed managed to smother herself with slap tho) I remember reading something about a couple who neglected their child because they were hooked to some computer game (I dont think it was SL). It DOES concern me that some weaker minded ppl might get so hooked in SL that they neglect not only themsleves but more importantly their children. These kids were so lucky to have a loving caring father, I shudder to think what their lives would be like had he done what most men would have and walked.

From the preview write-up it looked like it would be more focussed on drahma than anything interesting to do with SL, so I gave it a miss.
I got a call from my brother last night who had obviously seen it, and he said: "There are some seriously sad b******s on that SL". So I'm guessing it didn't portray the people who use SL in a very positive light!

If I didn't know about SL I think I'd be joining up now, it somehow made SL look much better than RL LOL
So can we expect an increase in more Europeans to SL?

Sorry, Everquest. It's all relative though. We only got to see part of the story, as is ever the case. Who knows what else had happened with those people which never made it onto the screen. Still, the point re the kids stands - but as has been said, anyone can get addicted to anything and end up neglecting their children.

Well, I guess there's only so much a production team can do with 40 minutes. Someone once said there's as many opinions as there are posters. They just took two situations, out of thousands. It was certainly drama. I assumed it would be from the first line of the synopsis. At least they didn't say that's *all* SL is, though they could have made it a little more open-ended. As more people flock to SL as a 'dating agency' there will suredly be more of this kind of coverage. I was squirming there at times too, not at the engineered dramatisation, but the mother who could let go of her children so easily. I know one who did this, but she didn't need SecondLife as an excuse.

From: Cherry Czervik Yes several mentors in the mentals were shouting noob walk too ... lol I'm probably a real sad case, as I shouted "noob walk" at the TV...with my mom sitting next to me (she was there cos she watched Torchwood with me and I'm the one who has British satellite TV available). It was especially sad cos my mom doesn't really understand English. Let alone knew what I was going on about all the time. (If you're wondering, I do simultaneous translations for her for both Doctor Who as well as Torchwood so she can watch it, too....)
