I enjoy a good chuckle. Infact, that is my one simple pleasure in an otherwise dreary and back-breaking life. However, I've now read all 8 years worth of back articles on somethingawful.com
What will I do now!?
I notice there's very little to laugh it in Second Life; unless you include people who use the word "metaverse" while keeping a straight face. Given that the very concept of a virtual world inwhich people actually live and do business is, in itself, absurd, I would have thought there would be more comic happenings.
In short, does anyone know if there are any stand-up comedy venues or events in Second Life?
Thanks

YES! There is!
Search for a group/venue called "LOL"
It's a comedy club.... somewhere. I forget. Haven't been there in a while. But it was nice. And instead of the land radio just playing music, they play old stand-up comedy routines.

The forums aren't comedy enough (oh yeah - that isn't actually in-world).

Serious cat understands the serious nature of the thread and treats it with the gravitas it deserves.

Not serious enough. 2) Answering anyway just for the lulz! 3) EIGHT YEARS WORTH of somethingawful.com? Good gods, man! I think it's unlawful to subject that much somethingawful.com upon the incarcerated in several US states. 4) Actually, yeah, already have a venue but still lining up events - comedy will be a major component. Along the lines of vaudeville actually. More news when closer to completion!

I thought about doing that before I took my club down, but did not think there would be much demand for it
was thinking doing it via voice and have an open mic night kinda thing
*shrug* oh well
I have heard some mention of comedy acts in SL but not sure where

The comedians do their schtick using Voice, and the audience can do the same.

What fun! We could have a comedy day field trip, or trips. I nominate Conan to be the organizer deluxe.

something awful huh?
this isn't in sl , but you'd probably get a kick out of somethingpositive.net, I'd give you the obligitory warning about the first strip (it's a long running web comic) but it's more amusing to see peoples reactions...
as for inworld entertainment, there are few singers that do funny SL related musical parodies (read filk), Rich Desoto comes to mind, just beware the group has frequent notices of performance dates/times (2 per event usually)

I for one am profoundly offended that you think we metaversians are funny. I mean this is the future, man. We NEED to fix Second Life before introducing comedy as a new feature.

There are several stand-up comedians active in SL, can't for the life of me remember any names at the moment though. But if you check the events listings inworld, you'll find them. I was at a stand-up act last night while waiting for a live music gig and didn't understand what was going on, because I don't have voice installed. Wish they'd run their acts over a music stream myself.
