Just out of curiosity, the Lindens (The people) work for LL, and do so much for SL, really, even if we complain tons anyway.
I was wondering if they get rewarded in any way beyond pay? Like for EQ2 I know Guides get free accounts, and while they are volunteers, I'm sure that the paid GMs do as well, and the same goes for a few other games, I know for sure.
Is something similar done for the Lindens, do they get free premium status or anything, or do they just get paid their salary and that's that?
ETA:: Beyond the Linden account. I'd think that alias would be a special account only to be used for 'Lindening' or something, like the guides and GMs and such of other games.

I'm sure most residents are more than willing to give them free items that are normally for sale. I see many of them have photoreal skins. I'm guessing the land each Linden has is tier free. And... Then... There's god mode. (=_=)

Torley's always saying thanks to people for stuff in his vids and whatnot. Didn't think about the land, sounds likely though, and...well..god mode is pretty useful sometimes, I'm sure XD Wonder if I asked a Linden they'd tell me..or if they'd say it's classified..or if they'd complain that they don't. XD

On more than one of the silly threads claiming that a Linden stole some resident's whatsit, I've seen it stated that Linden employees who are expected to have an inworld presence get an allowance of something like $L 5,000 per month. They were expected to participate in the inworld economy; I myself have seen a Linden buy boots.
We haven't had one of those threads for a while (thank the primal cause), so I can't find the reference, which was long enough ago that things may have changed at LL since. .

Well - they have donuts on Fridays. There's the annual BBQ where Philip gets in the dunk tank. They have a co-ed softball team. Free t-shirts that say "It's not my fault the Grid is down, I work in marketing", and, of course, don't forget the expense accounts. Sweet, sweet expense accounts.

XD Not really sure... most of the lindens i've seen...one of them had a default av. And the rest looked cheap. I think the LL's coders doesn't worry about how they look...and they log in to fix/improve the grid in fact there's an account level called like "Cube", "Super Cuber" or "White Cube".

Let's see, I remember seeing Pathfinder tip a live musician... Someone who made a HUD product Torley suggested, and a couple Linden's used, said they have to buy their L$, but do have a stipend. If they are testing something, they can apparently activate an unlimited L$ mode, but all they spend is logged and they have to obviously explain why. /me doesn't believe emotional shopping would be accepted

Coders and such I wouldn't expect to care, but I wouldn't be surprised if LL 'encouraged' the PR and such to look good, to display that LL takes advantage of the good things in SL, since they're supposed to ya'know..be running it =P

Hmm maybe if the coders don't hang out much in SL is why they keep breaking things? Just a theory. I doesn't get why someone in charge would even allow someone who only works for place has not ever used nor understands the product personally. Yet if you were very involved resident who got god mode and unlimited linden mode key....gee that would be just torturous temptation.

Which is why I wonder why some (not all) of them seem to have such an attitude about interacting with residents. I think they are just too busy making stuff personally. It sort of like those self important content makers who in the profile say don't im me I am too busy making stuff. I understand wanting to make things and wanting to be focused, sometimes grumpy and stressed but heck at what extent is value of those around you who make the world become less important then the creating process? I like creating personally here, I know I suck as business person thats why I don't do it. I guess the programmers or those who make the world might be the same way they want to code and make things too....don't want to deal with someone saying, "pls give some L?" or whatever else they may have to deal with. Lindens are people too I bet they get stressed out to about stuff not working.

I understand wanting to make things and wanting to be focused, sometimes grumpy and stressed but heck at what extent is value of those around you who make the world become less important then the creating process? I realize that a lot of them are very advanced creators, but if there job also entails helping residents, they need to find a balance to do their job well. Most jobs have fun parts and sucky parts. The fun parts are what get people to apply for the job, but the sucky parts are what people are really getting paid for. if the fun part is that fun, many people would be willing to do it for free. there are a lot of people in SL who create just for the joy of creating, and don't get paid by LL to do it. Not only that, sometimes there are issues where the only person who CAN help is a Linden. I don't like it when I call a business and the person on the other end has a tone like I am bothering them and they can't wait to tell me "submit a ticket" and then rush to hang up the phone.

Based on the aspects of Second Life that Linden Labs chooses to develop, and which aspects of Second Life that Linden Labs chooses to ignore, I would be surprised to hear that very many Lindens actually played in Second Life.

Sometimes the creating becomes more important and every one else outside your circle becomes annoying. I saw this a whole lot while I was in beta in TSO. When I was high ranking player in beta it was about how much simeoleans I could earn per game, I didn't want to waste my time with lower level players cause I had a sim to build. I sort of lost perspective and burned out when I realized what I was doing. I have been bit torn sometimes with that type of mentality here within myself and others too. I want to create, I have good friends who have been very generous. Yet what matters more is time when we are together creating together then anything else like acquiring more stuff. I think game designers and coders, get also very single minded and focused too and lose the whole picture. It sort of like when you are zoomed in one small thing you're building, you begin to stop seeing everything else.
