I think theres a good case for being able to apply to lindens for remimbursement for lost items. Its not as if we can download our inventory stuff - we have to leave it in lindens care.
I also think a 'downloadable' list of inventory items should be made available if tracking lost items means giving concise info. Failing that the transactions info should be made available longer than it is.
How many of us can remember the exact names of items ?
And the loss of cheap items can be as painful as the loss of expensive ones too.
All the business with wiping the folders hasnt made any difference unfortunately but I am grateful that several people took the time to offer advice.
I havent even had any sort of reply to the ticket I submitted yet.

If everything you've tried doesn't get your stuff back... good luck getting it back. my sister lost thousands of L's worth of inventory, and tried everything that is suggested here, and it's still gone. She also got the email back from support saying to do all of the things she had already done. The only thing she COULD do, was go around to some of the places she had bought things from and tell the shop owners what had happened, and hoped they could help her out. There were a couple of them who did give her things that were missing.

As far as I know I've never lost any items from my inventory permanently. Once or twice stuff has been missing but it's always back by the next log-on.

Lol! Well, since the thread has been resurrected, inventory loss happens very often and the Lindens are supposedly involved in a major project to track down the several causes of it.
There are different flavors, but yes, sometimes it is permanent. Sometimes things come back.
Three relevant Jira bugs are:
The JIRA issue # is SVC-553, "numerous reports of objects, notecards, scripts, gestures "missing from database". Many people have filed bugs on this, but they are all being marked "resolved" and folded into this bug.
Also relevant is Bug SVC-114, recently retitled "Meta-Issue: Inventory Loss: issues, fixes, development". This relates particularly to the no-copy-item-disappear-on-rez nastiness.
The third relevant bug is one requesting per-resident inventory backup: VWR-358, "New feature -> Inventory -> Back-up/Export"
