I haven't been involved in 1st amendment issues so I certainly not an expert, but I don't think that there would be any problem finding that law unconstitutional, at least regarding all but the most obscene material (actual visual depictions of sex acts, perhaps).

I do write laws (on other subjects) for a living in RL. I would never expect a proposed law to be so vague if it were expected to become law. It should further define the subject material to apply to only material that the Supremes would likely rule to be obscene (as opposed to merely pornographic or "dirty".

I doubt that the law would get passed the SC federal district court. Even the conservative 4th circuit (where it would go on appeal) will likely knock it down.

You have to remember the quote from when the Louisiana game law went into effect: I know there is a conflict with the first amendment...

Net loss the Louisiana was a good chunk of change when they had to pay the EFF costs for fighting it.

It just makes them sound they're trying to gain grid-cred! I'm not prudish, I'm not offended by sexual references or things like that - just that bad language to me iplies anger, hostility and contempt for other people.

UGH....SC....I'm sooooo glad we moved out of that state!!! Don't mean to offend anyone who lives there.......but, I'm a die-hard New Englander and SC was a little difficult to get used to when one is raised in a more liberal world. Actually...it was down right scary.

Now I'm in FL.....a nice melting pot of folks from all over the country. As far as this story goes.....I really really hope we're not going to slide backwards into the Quaker era....and my gawd .... can you imagine just trying to enforce that! Give me a break.... especially in SC!!! LOL

Same with most mmo's out there, with chat filters that can be turned off. (funny thing is even with the default = on, if somone turned them off they could report you for using the language..)

While I have been known to use more colorful metaphors from time to time- I resent the public profanity that sometimes one is exposed to. I say, Fluffy Bunny them!

It probably took very little time to draft that bill. The person who introduced it will likely get at least a few votes next election; he can credit himself in his campaign adds. And it most likely will not pass; perhaps never be considered by a committee. The way the bill was drafted make me think that it is a "throwaway" bill; the sponsor has no real expectation of passage but just wants to get credit for introducing it.

What is wrong with kids using content filtering these days? Many online games and forums have optional profanity filters. Perhaps a better law would be to enforce the use of said filters for minors.
