Don't know, I got the offer too. Might as well be the next one making it to the news because they scammed, really don't know. As long as there is a Lindex, I am not inclined using other venues for my lindens.

I stopped reading after "approved by Linden Labs". LL doesn't "approve" or "endorse" third-party exchanges. Anyone making the claim is being deceptive at best, dishonest at worst.

I spoke with these people. It's like SLX's currency exchange, except in Euros, and uses the Risk API. That's what they mean by "approved."

I don't patronize any business who says "Linden Labs," but I don't see any obvious warning signs here. Looks like they just want to be a European GOM. They've stepped into a competitive market with a lot of apprehensive customers.

From: Colette Meiji sounds like a currency exchange looking for visibility. That is exactly what it is. For young avatars of less than a month, it could be more helpful than using the LindeX, and in their own currency.

I don't know , the note did not trade mark any of the Linden items as you would think a proper business would. then again, I didn't here.

The Lindex works with our local currencies too. Plus, the Lindex is more competitive, offering approx 500L extra per 10 US dollars. It makes no difference if we let the Lindex do the transactions in eurodollars or pounds sterling. We still end up with the same amount of Lindens.

I find no real competitive advantage using any other currency exchange. But I'm not restricted like a brand new avatar is in terms of the amount of L I can purchase. This is where currency exchanges like these fill a need.

Maybe... but other than reputation or the reputation of the person operating it the site is the only way to get a sense of how legitimate they are. From the actual site: "ELDEXchange co-operates with the operator of Second Life and is officially authorized to exchange Linden Dollars." Maybe I'm just too cynical and focusing too much on the words, but that sentence alone would keep me from using it rather than install confidence. They also sell on eBay which would be another red flag to me. I've never seen the "official partner" logo anywhere either. It's possible it's authentic in which case, no problem, but if it's fake that's a rather big red flag.

What I've found is a bit of a language barrier. It's not intentionally deceptive - these people wanted to use the term ATM when they initially approached me and I blew them off. I let them know about the banking scandal and they clarified what it was that they were, a currency exchange. They have adjusted appropriately. They need more guidance, and probably need to read LL's trademark policy.

Well if you look at the buy/sell lindens page and click the international L$ marketplace image it will lead you to a wiki page with this company listed. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/L$_Marketplace From: someone Please note that while we try to ensure that only high quality resellers are listed on this site, these resellers are not endorsed by Linden Lab and Linden Lab accepts no responsibility for those listed here. If you have trouble with any of these sites, please report your difficulties by emailing us & we will address it with the reseller and potentially remove them from the site.
That is about as "official" as it gets.

Well, I have no idea how reliable they are or what rates they offer, but they don't seem to offer interest payments or anything like that, and the reselling part is not a pyramid scheme, thus it would seem ToS-legal.

They might be legit, but I highly dislike their way of making business when a user wants to sell their Lindens. (I didn't even check the buying options.) I do NOT want to transfer my money to a single avatar, and I would like to know up front if their exchange rates are worth the hassle... From the site: From: someone If you would like to sell your Linden Dollars to ELDEXchange please follow these instructions:
1. Please contact one of our staff via ICQ ( 471-930-121), via in-world instant message (Abba Rau) or email to sales@ELDEXchange.eu Define the amount of Linden Dollars you would like to sell as well as the avatar's name who you would like to transfer the Linden Dollars to our avatar from.
2. Our staff member will check the possibility of purchase with the algorithm provided to us by Linden Labs.
3. If we get the "OK" for your avatar, we will most likely be able to buy your Linden Dollars. Our staff member will give you the exact exchange rate and the name of the avatar you can transfer your Linden Dollars to.
4. Please inform our staff member how you would like to receive the money and provide him with your European bank account or PayPal details.
5. As soon as the transfer of the Linden Dollars to our avatar was successful, we will arrange the transfer of the real currency via PayPal or bank transfer.

With SLX, I still have full control over my Lindens all the time and can decide for how much I want to sell them. Here, they SAY they use the RiskApi but I have no proof of and no way to control what really happens after I give my Lindens away.

There are still red flags that deter me from using the service even if it was more competitive than the Lindex (like them being "known for years to be reliable and safe" when their domain was only registered last July), but there are plausible explanations for that. You just have to tread carefully with operations like this I suppose.

If there really no way for residents to confirm that businesses are using the RiskAPI? You'd think LL would have a list somewhere on the site.

You cannot give money to "SLX" - you pay an avatar - Exchange Street. This organization happens to have a sophisticated system that allows you a high measure of control, but by keeping any money in SLX or using the currency exchange, you have paid an avatar and you can't guarantee what is done with that money. It is all the same.

You'd think LL would have a list somewhere on the site. It was already posted in this thread that LL has them on the list of organizations using the RiskAPI.

From: Cristalle Karami It was already posted in this thread that LL has them on the list of organizations using the RiskAPI. It points at a wiki. Granted, wiki.secondlife.com, but I question it's accuracy if it can be updated by users. Also, that page does not contain a comprehensive list of businesses using the RiskAPI. Ram Linden says as much in the history.

LL does have an approved exchange list: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/L$_Marketplace And yes, it's simply those that do use the Risk API.
