I'm concerned about the owner. Hate for you to be chased away because some griefer might have been in his store. Was it his? PM message one of us to go check it out for you if you'd like.

If the "store-owners" name and/or text were colored green, it was a faker.

You were right and very thoughtful to refuse to buy off someone standing there, when you could buy from a vendor.

There was a scam going around (maybe still is) where people pretend to be the owner of the shop and try that.

I agree that you should get in touch with the owner of the store, as this all seems awfully fishy.

If it turns out that it is the same guy, well, you can at least take pleasure in knowing that he won't be making just a whole lot of sales.

(Sometimes I actually think some people don't care about actually making sales, but just feel like to feel like big shots, playing what they think of as "businesspeople," and throwing their weight around.)

It is very shocking to be suddenly mistreated by a total stranger, and have your feelings upset. I wouldn't worry overly about having that reaction; it's normal.

In past work I've worked with some of the wealthiest and most powerful people in the U.S. (not bragging, I'm surely NOT one of them) and always found them to be respectful. It makes me laugh when I see some of the business owners in SL who take themselves way too seriously.

Glad most out there are pretty damn good people. Helps me to avoid those insecure blow hards.

If it was truly the store owner, I would send one last IM thanking me for letting me know what kind of person I was about to do business with before I spent my money, mute him, and go looking for a better product.

A Land owner can eject and ban you if they take a dislike to the colour of your Tie.

I would content myself with the Knowledge that, if this is what they consider Good customer relations, they will Very soon be out of Business.

Forget the AR, and do your blood pressure a favor by taking your custom elsewhere.

Just a quick note Solanghe.

Land owner tools via the land options menu (those provided by Linden Lab) do not include any way of teleporting you home. All that can happen is you are ejected off their land. As someone stated previously, he must have used a third party tool and this is not acceptable at all even if he is the land owner.

The only occurrence of teleport home that is in any way 'legal' (other than dying lol) is via a security orb with a warning and timer, and even this is frowned upon, although not against TOS. Most use these responsibly and for good reasons.

I'd put this one down to experience but be aware of what land owners can do using the tools offered by LL as opposed to scripted devices which may fall outside the TOS. This will allow you to make a judgment of whether you need to AR. Knowledge is power.

Although he did in fact abuse you, as some else said, the AR system is already overflowing and really isn't all that effective anyway, as it is wildly subjective. The best revenge is to make sure that you let people know not to buy from this person. It may not seem like much, but it is one tangible thing you can do, and word of mouth can be surpisingly effective in both directions.

If the text is colored green it means the text comes from a scripted object. This could be a scripted information dispenser belonging to the the store owner, legitimately giving out information on products. It could be from a scripted object belonging to a conman or a prankster. The color of the text indicates something about the nature of the source of the text, not about the intentions of the sender.

So it's not really true that green text means faker text, it just means text from a scripted object rather than text produced by someone typing.



The big colored rectangles with words underneath show the default colors the SL interface uses to distinguish the different types of text the system displays in the scrolling console text and elsewhere.

One can customize these colors, so it's not even true that green HAS to be the color used for text from objects, but if one modifies these colors they will have to translate "green text" to "my object text colored text" as needed.

Not exactly 3rd party, but if it was group land, the llTeleportAgentHome script function can be used by anyone in the group to eject someone from the group's land.

You can give an object any name and have the object speak. Of course, the text is a different color. IMs from such an object don't come up in an IM window. So, you CAN tell them apart, but only if you know how.

IMHO, the OP was acting very reasonably. There are two possibilities.

A) It WAS the store owner. In this case, there was no abuse, just rudeness. Don't buy any scripts from this asshole.

B) It was someone else. In this case, it will probably happen to someone who is technically savvy enough to figure it out and tell the owner or file an AR with all the necessary details. However, if you feel particularly motivated (and are willing to deal with more abuse if it's case A), you could investigate further and let the shop owner know.

Frankly, I bet it's case A, and if it's case B and keeps happening the owner will find out. So, I'd just have a good vent and then let it go.

Be glad you did not buy anything there, I know pretty sure what store this is, because i happened to get the same treatment.

My search was for a script to open 2 doors together (double doors) so I was looking in the store and got the IM. He offered me the script Full Perm for 2k linden! Well I kindly told I was going to look some more and got booted. Half an hour later I found the script for 1 linden on SLX... so apparantly the store owner is affraid people will find out about his scams.
