From: Ceera Murakami Well, on the bright side, maybe the people that they are also acquiring from xstreet-SL will finally be able to teach LL how to process PayPal transactions in a timely and efficient manner? Oh no. They will most likely be the first to go. They will be the sacrificial offering to The Tao.

I'm one of life's optimists, generally, but I just can't see this going well at all, not with LL's lousy track record with customer service / extortionate price hikes with two seconds notice.
The nice thing about SLX used to be that it was reliable, and run by people who bent over backwards to help sort out any issues you had. Kind of a stark contrast to SL itself, to say the least.
Having an inworld shop for me is not financially viable, and I suspect that's true for many of SLX's sellers. If the Openspace fiasco is anything to go by, I suspect the first thing they will do is raise the commission fees....
Aw crap...

From: Skell Dagger I went looking for info about Xstreet's Linden Dollar exchange, since that's where I currently buy my L$. This is a direct C&P from the new KB article about XStreet:
The cynic in me ponders what kind of modifications will be regarded as 'needed'. or "immediate".... no "immediate" changes could mean "stay calm, we aren't going to do anything till...tomorrow"

no "immediate" changes could mean "stay calm, we aren't going to do anything till...tomorrow" "Attention all Titanic passenegers. this is the Captain. It seems we have struck an iceberg. It seems to be minor, the damage appears slight and we believe the ship is in no immediate danger..............."

From: Brenda Connolly *Perhaps overherad in the LL War Room*
Merging the grids, getting entire families to join, then we have a lot of new potential Premiums. Once they are in, and SL is a virtual Whitelandia, we bring in our Corporate Partners and charge them for the privilege of trying to sell their crap to all of them. Maybe even let them sell real life stuff on the XRezOnTheStreetExchange. lol in other words there'll be a tier charge and membership fee increase

how do i get my lindens out of xstreet and back onto my grid account? i have never participated in the forums there, but i suppose those are also now going to be moderated. or maybe merge with this one somehow - the BIG forum change that's 'been coming' for some time now... just a hypothetical.

Does this mean when I had finally figure out how best to transfer my USD into my paypal (because XstreetSL accepts it and SL does not) will I be stuck again with no way to bring the income I need to pay my tier into my rl account I will not be able to unless I pay an outragious fee? next.... the teen grid confirmation...

From: Maelstrom Janus ooooh I wonder if this means we'll have to pay v.a.t for goodies bought through xlstreet (I bet that name doesnt stay for long) now ?? Very very interesting question. When I was in the middle of my "debate" with HMRC they repeatedly told me that transactions that take place entirely within a virtual world are not considered as services for the purposes of VAT...... Will the website angle have implications for that ruling?

From: Brenda Connolly Oh no. They will most likely be the first to go. They will be the sacrificial offering to The Tao. I have to agree with Brenda on this one. I'm just not feeling optimistic about this, precisely because of LL's track record. They might leave it alone for a bit, but eventually they're gonna want to merge it with their own website and banking system... Onrez is going bye-bye. I've already pulled stuff off of it and deleted my servers and am looking at an alternative secondary selling place. I'm sticking with XStreet until I know for sure how botched up LL's gonna make things. Besides, everyone knows that the moment you put on a Linden last name, you are required to check your brain and common sense at the door of the building or at the login screen.

So instead of putting some investment capital into fixing all of Second Life's technical and instability problems, Linden Lab is instead using that money to buy out third parties who have actually provided something useful to Second Life, and turn their products into the bland swill that we normally receive from Linden Lab.
This confirms that Linden Lab has no sense of priority.
This is a shame. XstreetSL has always operated with a higher level of professionalism than Linden Lab ever has.

I guess people wil just abandon xstreet since they will be having poor customer service, raising prices and possibly only allowing premium accounts to sell on it. we need another clone we have http://www.apez.biz/ and http://www.vitty.jp/atm

From: Maelstrom Janus Id have thought this shows a great sense of priority...primarily making profits for Lindens... I think this has a great chance of backfiring for Linden Labs. Second Life, in and of itself, is an instable place with no consumer protection, information, or dispute resolution. A lousy risk for anyone to spend money. XStreetSL offered a place that was actually safer and easier to make purchases. XStreetSL's service actually made Second Life a more worthwhile place and help grease the wheels of Second Life's virtual economy where Linden Lab screwed up. If Linden Lab operates XStreetSL as it operates Second Life, not only will use of XStreetSL will greatly decrease, overall use of Second Life will greatly decrease. It will only be profitable for Linden Lab if Linden Lab can competently manage it. Since Linden Lab has not competently operated Second Life overall, I do not see where they will be able to competently operate XStreetSL. The former owners of XStreetSL were really doing Linden Lab a favor.

From: Raudf Fox ... I have one major question: What's gonna happen to Xstreet's forums? That may be what becomes our General Discussion area and these forums go back to strict moderation.

Me wonders......

/Me wonders if the purchase is to block any chance of the two markets interracting with the new grids like LCO for example?
Thoughts please.....

Financially I think it is a smart move. SLEX and OnRez do a lot of business and it's SL dependent - lockdown/cornering market/monopoly, all seem to pay off for corporations.
I just hope huge-corporation sponsorship isn't next, with homogenisation soon to follow.

Why they take over both, slex and shop onrez? They want VWD? Virtual World Domination? Googles lively has gone, but there are a number of virtual worlds out there, like HiPiHi, Novoking, Legend City, and probably for now the best competitor Openlife, that already has a currency similar to Sl. Since the Openspace debacle openlife has welcomed lots of exSL residents, and I wouldn't wonder if Openlife had plans to make use of SLX and Shop Onrez, what probably now is no go. Just a thought, i noticed vieuwer r151 had a button for Openlife , Secondlife and Standalone, the new viewer R162 is missing the Sl button....
