From: Conifer Dada Objects meant to be built to realistic RL scale but using SL metres tend to look a bit small measured against avatars of 'normal' proportions. I'm scaled to be 5'6", visually, in relation to other average sized humanoid avs. But if I measure myself against a height measurer I'm 6', thus PROVING that the SL foot, and similarly the SL metre are smaller than RL ones!!! Either that or the height measurers are wrong! The SL metre is perfectly normal, but the avatars are far too big. After all, LL defined the world and it's scale. They gave us the avatar creation tools, and *we* (on average) set ourselves taller than is realistic for normal humans. The height measures, as is well documented, measure the bounding box of an avatar, not actual height. Any figures they generate for height are incorrect (roughly 5% too small), thus encouraging people to make their avs taller still.

If the sliders in Appearance, were shown as a unit of measurement, rather than 0-100%, getting the right proportions would be so much easier.

While they are adding a unit of measurement to the avatar sliders LL could also set what is currently 1.25 meters into 1 meter so that we wouldn't have to change much in the world. All those 8 foot avatars would instantly be 6 foot avatars. All of the houses that are currently oversized would be normal sized.

I have an 'eyeball reference' Scaled Height Bar rezzed as a copyable freebie in the forum hangout. Actually... I should take a snapshot of it and make it a store, Xstreet, and OnRez freebie too... Okay... Task for tonight. =^-^=

"Standards For Avis In Secondlife?"
Their cars should be clean, well running, and the gas tanks should be full when you pick them up.

Yes, Butch was saying that LL should add measurements to the sliders and I was saying that while they are doing that they should also recalibrate what a meter is in SL.

From: Bree Giffen Yes, Butch was saying that LL should add measurements to the sliders and I was saying that while they are doing that they should also recalibrate what a meter is in SL. There's no need to recalibrate the meter. If they add correct measurements to the sliders then either people will go "oh noes, I'm really 2.2 meters tall, that's crazy" or they'll go "oh wow, I'm really 2.2 meters tall, that's kewl". But what I was getting at is this: the problem is that NONE of the sliders set the absolute value of ANY measurement. If you set your body length to "long" you make yourself taller. If you set your body length to "short" you make yourself shorter. But how much taller or how much shorter depends on the values of other sliders. The best they could do would be to add a scale giving you the resulting heingt in a normal pose.

They could probably put some kind of "scale" behind the avatar as you tweak it in appearance mode, i think it's possible to make a client side scale that clamp it's 0 value where your feets are standing and extend up.
That would be cool... like many other things :/

Instead of 0 to 100, we should name the slider adjustments Unusual to Hilarious.

Linden Labs thinks we're Enterprise, but looking at the quality of the avatar mesh I gotta say I feel more like Budget.

Maybe we should try having all our avatars look just alike and all have the same name.
Just for an hour.
Ok, maybe not.
