Hi, I suspect I was banned from a hangout place (island) I frequented on a pretty much daily basis because I said in open chat that I have just been diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease. Nothing has been said to me personally on why I was banned (which I discovered only because I tried to TP there to chat over my morning coffee as I always do). When making enquiries why I was banned to others there (on my friends list) I was told it is because I had sworn at a patron. But on checking chatlogs there is not one use of a swear word from me on that day at all. Not even a word that could be remotely construed as swearing (by anyone there that day/time). So obviously the excuse is spurious at best. Is there anything I can do about this? Effectively it has left me with no friends at all in SL at a time when they were most needed for support and friendship. Midnite

sadly unless you can prove it, not much you can do, and even if you could prove it, still not much you can do. people can ban others for any or no reason at all
I will be your friend, just im me anytime, and if I am online we can chat and hang out maybe even play some games or I can show you a cool place to go fishing (at least until I can open my own cool fishing spot hehe)

yup sad but true...i have an ex who caused a big stink in public recently at a beach..I didn't respond..I didn't fight back..I called a manager..My Ex became so belligerent that he was calling managers FA***ots and me a B***** and other people HIV positive. I saved chat..sent it to managers. Took names of all he had called names. He basically crashed and burned right? Wanna know who got banned?... ME because "I" was accused of "fueling" "public drama". And until I talked to the beach owner and promised that i understood that behavior wasn't acceptable((even though i didnt participate in that behavior))...I wouldn't be allowed back. so..yea..theres nothing you can do..Sim owners are mini dictators..what they say goes and they don't have to answer to anyone unless we can get a BBBSL up and running ~Lana

wow lana that sucks but the way I see it, if sim owners were to treat me like that, then I do not want to be there there are literally 1000's of beaches in SL find another one

Wow that's pretty depressing. I'm legally blind in RL and if I got banned for that I'd be pissed. Not to say anything about anyone on your contact list, but if I was one of the people you hung out with there and found out you got banned cause of that, I'd say screw that place and find a new place to hang out with you... Feel free to IM me in world and say hi anytime. I don't have a cool hang out place to call my own but I did find some pretty nice places to hang.

wow banned because you are ill? That is wild, esp since there are so many differently emo and physically ill ppls in SL, that do act out or not on their problems and totally embraced. I would hope that isn't true, eh but ya know SL can be a petty, immature, insecure place w/ some ppls, where just being yourself is a problem w/ some one! anyone! no matter what you do! So ya know, you getting banned really might not have been you at all. I'd say I hope you get it sorted but feel more so like saying I hope you find another place.

That's sad. But some people cannot handle illnesses like these. They cannot handle being the kind of friend that a person that ill needs, so they run. I am sad that it came down to that. But you know, you are always welcome at the Forum hangout in Allana. There are some organized parties, and people will congregate there informally from time to time.
I would IM your friends from the other place and let them know what happened. Bring them along to the hangout.

or bring them along to my arcade (it is free to play, everyone welcome, and being it is free to play it is non profit for me)
I just feel it is nice to have many options for those many moods that hit us hehe
and when I say arcade, I mean arcade, fully interactive games like whack a mole, skeeball, zombie meltdown, aqua dash, and many more.
(be sure to grab a free ticket roll if you decide to play games, wear it when you play and earn tickets you can exchange for prizes)

@Midnite: Unfortunately, the extra level of anonymity that sl provides for people to be themselves even though their rl bodies no longer cooperate, also allows for people to make complete asses of themselves with little fear of reprecussion. There is roughly 15K sims in sl so don't let the people in one of them discourage you.
Check out the Forum Cartel Hangout. I found the people there very friendly even though I am extremely shy and have a hard time talking even in sl.
If the people on your friends list don't want to join you at other places, then they are not really friends. (even in sl terms)
@Lana: Don't apologize. (F*** 'em). It is their loss.

Midnite In England there are laws against this and you can take action against the sim owner, all you need is the name of the sim and the sim owner, i am not sure of what Australian laws like but if its a decient country they should have laws like ours. You will need chatlogs (althou I'm sure who ever is investigating your case can dig up chat logs from LL

People are either supportive or scaried about personal health issues. I really sorry that people are short minded about people with health problems. As lana said said was banned for a island for a touch and go reason. I myself had words to a Dog club owner about a personal issues i had a while back. but instead of be suppotive oal this geek man could say was insult me. Now this said person is some kiss ass llabs dog that believes he is the best thing that happened to sl. These types of foolish and totally greedy and stuctup people ( in his case A dog ). Really can`t deal with people in rl, so don`t expect people to be caring because these same people don`t have the ability to care or think about other people feelings. There is a saying on Sl. Stupid in Real life Stupid in Second Life

From: Kyrah Abattoir I doubt any laws can allow you to take actions agains this, it's like someone's private property. If they're offering a public service, that would be different. However, the disability discrimination laws of England and Wales don't extend to services hosted in the United States.

Thankyou for the replies. I would love to visit at the Hang-out. I am shy and mostly quiet until I get to know people, and don't tend to be all that big a wit or anything, so really not sure how I would fit in. Also my times on are fairly erratic, and are generally Aussie times. Despite having known most the people I had considered friends for roughly 18 months, they have pretty much closed ranks and are standing by the Island owner (whom I had also considered a friend). When times are tough you really do find out who your friends are.

There are plenty of shy people around... myself included. I've only visited the hang-out a couple of times, but there are all kinds of people there and I promise you won't feel intimidated or compelled to talk non-stop. It's actually a good place to relax and observe... and make friends in your own time. Sorry about what happened to you.

Midnite Sorry to hear you've been treated in this way Midnite - right at a time when you could use some support and solid friendships. Although it's possible you could take legal action, it would take such time, energy and frustrations for what would be little reward, so instead, spend your time exploring new places and if these friends of yours are worth their salt they will hang out with you wherever you are. Have fun discovering the new chapter in your SL!

As the game grows larger, so do the anti social/ with people that can`t deal with others ( like in their real lifes). What is lost these days are social values and giving for unselfish reasons. But instead we have know-alls, kissups, people that thinks the sun circles themselves.

it sucks but as a land owner, you can ban anyone for any reason... like using the letter Q... nothing to be done about it, but at least you know the score now... not much consolation

WOW.....ive just read all the posts...and im pretty shocked how easily everyone has jumped on the band wagon?
The lady DOESNT know for sure she was banned because shes ill? Shes just summising...it was said it was because she swore at the owner...maybe her definition of a swear word...isnt theirs?
Ive been on the receiving end of this sort of thing and its NOT NICE...and because one sied of the situation posts about it...everyone jumps in and goes with it. Might be great to hear from the other person involved..but oh wait...they prolly dont KNOW this is all being said here right?
Youre ill...and thats really really sad...but please..dont just GUESS and attack another person...do what everyone else suggested...move on..find other places..SL is HUGE! Might also be worth seeing if there are some support groups for your condition...i found some really cool places that way (no, im not ill..i lost someone to cancer and felt like talking)
Anyway...good luck..enjoy your Second Life ...

I know there are groups in SL for people with all different kinds of illnesses, etc. to meet and support one another. There very well may be one for Parkinson's. Worth a look. Secondly, I join Rhaorth in offering my friendship. And her arcade is so much fun! I was there the other day playing Whack-a-Mole and that help relieved some RL stress as well as being great fun!! Shoot me an IM in world and would love to just hang over some coffee and chat!! And regarding what happened, as my sig says: There are a lot of boors in the world!!!

I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience. However, I think it's quite likely you were banned by mistake and the owner meant to ban someone else. That happened to me once - I called in a land baron to deal with a griefer who was littering a sale plot next to my home. The baron came over, cleared the litter and than ejected/banned/muted me. I was standing on his land at the time and he probably mistook me for griefer.

From: Midnite Rambler When times are tough you really do find out who your friends are. So true, Midnite. I hate that you had this experience, but it's their loss. I'll be offering you friendship the next time I log on. I must warn you, I've been spending all my SL time on the tasks of re-opening a business lately and I'm not gonna be as much fun to hangout with as the numerous posters above. But IM me anytime.
