Security Orb Recs Needed

Ok, I've been one of those people who really hasn't wanted to protect my property. No ban lines, no orbs, nada.

But lately, for some reason, I've had a flurry of people flying into my property for no apparent reason. I've been living here for months, and never saw a single soul land anywhere near here by accident. Now, they are landing like fleas.

Still, I'm patient. Even the other day, when some newbie kept walking around my land. She said she was having trouble TP'ing, so I was patient with her, but she kept coming back, so I began to be suspect.

Tonight was the final straw. I'm in the bedroom Some skeleton looking guy walks in, nonchalently. Just stands there. Looking.

I tell the guy, "GET OUT". But, of course, he does not. Eject/Ban.

But the jerk IM's me and wants to know, why I ejected him! Duh! I'm like, you walked into my bedroom! He says "oh, I did it by mistake!" I'm like "no, you don't walk into people's bedrooms "by mistake"; that was on purpose. You had to walk up a flight of stairs and walk through and OPEN door. Etc. I enjoyed a little bit of a shake down with him.

Anyway, I've decided, enough is enough. No more unknowns walking in on me. I'm not looking for something to harm people, just something to gently tap them on the shoulder and say "please move on" ;)

Any suggestions?

ban lines for a week and add the neighbours if you get along with them

show them the land is off limits and see how it goes next week for a perminent solution if they keep coming

I would suggest the Omega Security Orb/System. Has a lot of great features including a setting to shut it off when you are not around so it will not bother people when the owners are not around. Honestly I only ever turn mine on when I want privacy in my home... Now if it would lock my doors to, and even tint my windows, then I would say it's perfect!

Thanks! My windows in the bedroom are tinted thankfully, and they lock if I could remember how to do it lol. Plus I have a bad habit of deleting the darn house a lot (did it again today in fact grrr!). But the rest of the house is wide open, it's a beach house.

I'll look into this one. I like the idea that it can be shut off when I'm not around. I don't care if people walk into the house if I'm not around, not like they can mess it up or anything.

Security orbs can be pretty laggy, maybe a more simple solution would be to buy a locking door? of course people who are knowledgable can get in without keys to the door, but by the time they figure that out they are usually a little better behaved than your normal roadside noobie

Unfortunately that won't work. My house is entirely open on the ground floor, it's an open plan, no doors at all.

A squad of Marines with helicopter gunship support and perhaps low yield tactical nuclear weapons.

"GET OUT" may have been a little over the top. :(

Maybe a friendly greeter script that explains to noobs that people in SL often don't like visitors entering their virtual homes?

Something like:- "PLEASE GET OUT! YOU STUPID FUCKING NOOB!"

The key word here is "please".

I use:

PSYKE'S DEFENSE SYSTEMS

and love it. It works great and you can set it for various settings of length before warning, attacking/ejecting... etc.

Good luck!!

If you get an orb, set it to just force-tp them home to save yourself additional headaches.

Getting ejected (and/or banned) just seems to spur people on to be as annoying as they can be (coming back, shouting, IM'ing, etc) while very few can be bothered (or remember where they were) to tp back and continue to be a pain.

But just remember that if everybody used an orb then exploring Second Life would become pointless because we would have to constantly keep moving.

Hi Elora

I use the orb from Zedd Zedmore - it's pretty much fully configurable on all its settings via the config card. I keep a stock on hand for any of my tenants who want one, so I'll drop you one over when I get in world - see if it fits the bill for you.

It's Mod/Trans, so if it doesn't suit you, you can just return it.

I am sorry Elora, but complete privacy just isn't possible in SL unless you have a private island that is not shown on the grid - and even then LL can see it. You have to accept this. The www is a public domain. Someone will always be able to cam in, TP in or rez themselves in sitting on a prim. Most people, of course, are considerate enough not to do this and apologise and go away quickly if they inadvertently intrude - but you would be better off enjoying your more intimate moments in places where you are unlikely to be seen - and watch out for the little green dots! ;)

I have a LandProtector orb. It works well and has lots of functionality but the instructions are a bit difficult to understand.

If people would grow a brain, then orbs wouldn't be needed.

Exploring is fine, but knowing where and when you shouldn't be someplace is part and parcel of being an explorer. If a person can't figure out when and where they shouldn't be, then they shouldn't be exploring.

Thanks Incanus! I got the message via email this morning. Won't be able to get inworld probably much over the weekend, but will try it out for sure! Highly appreciated :)

I'm not entirely opposed to people dropping in - Thursdaynight, some newbie was flying by and saw the private Cartel party at my house going on, and I allowed him to stay provided he didn't cause trouble.

Highly appreciated :)

Oh I'm fully aware of that Deira, and have had more than my share of intimate moments in public :D

I just have decided, I'd like the option, of getting rid of someone, when I've had enough of them standing over me a bit too long, once I've asked them to leave. There is a difference between someone exploring, and someone rudely watching you in a private moment. Most people have enough sense to move on. For those that don't, in your own domain, they need a push, to leave.

Am I the only one who keeps their secrity on all the time?
01-26-2008 07:45
I have always had issues with uninvited guest and I just keep my security devil on all the time. Where I live is purely residential and traffic aside from residents and their guest is virtually non. But because of stalkers and the like, I feel the need to keep mine on all the time. My devil Ims me at least 10 times a day to say who he has kicked of my property.

All of my neighbors are listed so they have no trouble and when they switch partners as they tend to do frequently, they let me know and I add them.

Maybe I am just paranoid!

/me waves to Jez :)

I love that Devil! I saw that a while ago and thought it was hysterical! And you know what? I don't think you're being paranoid, if you get that many messages saying that many people are intruding on your property. That seems quite a bit to me. Especially if you have had issues with people stalking you, or even just annoying you in general. A girl, has to be careful. I also, intend to put on my list everyone I know. All friends and neighbors are all more than welcome into my space. I trust them all completely.

What I failed to mention, which I will now; is that there is a certain person I am also trying to keep off the property. A friend of mine, who now is just popping in a lot while I'm not home or, even when I'm there, keeps thinking this is ok, when I keep telling him it is not appropriate. While I am still friendly with him, it is not cool of him to think he can be there without asking me if he can come by. Plus, there is some other factors involved which I'm not going to go into, some strange things he's doing which concern me (not to me, things he's into which are making me uncomfortable and I don't want to be party to or know about). I'd hate to have to use the orb on him possibly, but it may have to come down to it.

Anyway Jez, seems you've handled this quite rationally :)

Elora,
I love you!

I actually don't have my next door neighbor on my list as I hate her, she is tacky!

Muah,
Jez
I enjoyed your party.. I was being very good!

I totally disagree with this. How ever is a new resident, who's just teleported to the mainland for the first time and signed up because he/she heard about the groovy thing called Second Life where the content is all user created and you can explore and do all kids of stuff, supposed to know where they are and aren't allowed to go? The only clue they get is a forest of banlines and security orb warnings -- how welcoming and fascinating! Unlike RL, there are no roads so that they can cruise through neighborhoods to look without tresapassing. There are no signs telling them where they can and cannot go. There are no gated areas with sentries checking admittance. How ever is anybody to distinguish what is "ok" and what isn't?
