Same hobbies in RL and SL?

Besides buying and selling things and sex. Is there something you like to do in real life that you also enjoy doing in second life?

For example, I enjoy horseback riding and archery in RL and so does my elf self in SL.

Dancing.

I was also going to say, "dressing up in historical clothes," but it's been so long since I've done anything in the SCA in RL that I'm not sure it's fair to use it. (Oddly, too, the medieval/Renaissance period leaves me kind of cold in SL - but I'm amassing a fair collection of Victorian gowns and poodle skirts, and there's a flapper dress at Ivalde I've got my eye on.)

Oh, and learning things. SL AND RL provide so many opportunities to learn how to do things, how things work... I've been realizing lately that the desire to learn has been a driving force in my life, and it certainly applies in both worlds.

I work for artists in real life, second life allows me to make my own here.

Dressing up. I'd do it more in RL given the money and occasion, but SL provides both (and even if there *isn't* an occasion, few people mind). Burlesque, latex, fancy gowns, historical and fantasy costume are all hobbies I can indulge in SL without breaking the bank.

Not really ... I've yet to find anywhere in Second Life that allows me to play Third Life ...

The similarities are beginning to haunt me a little..like my avvy and I have convergent evolution or something. Both of us earn our living as artisans, both have enormous connections with our gardens, and both have the same inflated shoe collection. Must be the same brain in there or something.

In real life, I am too lazy to shop. Hence "looking good" is not a priority for me except for works or at wedding banquets.

Not adventurous too as opposed in SL where flying makes things easier.

I do like taking photographs using cellphone and my boyfriend's favourite toy- his Nikon DSLR camera. That explains the same amount of passion in SL: I take pictures when I see opportunities. The only difference is that I am a lot bolder in real life: I approach strangers and seek their permission to take their photographs; especially when it comes to taking a picture of the whole family doing koi-feeding in a fish farm or couples walking down the busy streets of Hong Kong. It is important my photography muse is informed beforehand.

Same thing goes between both worlds: I prefer to be alone, and would only enjoy the company of good friends and loved ones whom I trust.

I have tried archery as a sport in SL, but found it lacking when compared to the real life activity, which I am pretty good at. In SL, even with the most "realistic" gear I could find, it was just not that chalenging or realistic for me. Either too easy to always get bullesyes, or so randomly innaccurate that there was no point to it.

I do some historic costumed roleplay both in SL and in RL. Like someone else mentioned, I used to do SCA and Ren Faires, though I've pretty much dropped out of that these days in RL. But a good part of my SL roleplaying is historical costume/theme. And like that other person mentioned, the period and nationality I choose to do in SL is different than the period I used to do in the SCA or Ren Faires.

I do art in RL, and I do textures for sale in SL. My texture art in SL sells better than my RL art. Go figure...

I build things in SL, and I also build things in RL (woodworking, and some remodeling skills, such as my mate and I completely gutting and remodeling our kitchen together). I think my past experience im making things in RL certainly lead to my active enjoyment of making things in SL.

I like horseback riding in RL, but can't afford to do it much in RL. I like it in SL as well, and have several nice horses and a stable, which I could never dream of having in RL.

While you said "besides buying" I do rather take my clothing shopping seriously (to a point) in SL. In both RL and SL I am always hunting for specific pieces or types of clothing. I collect walking sticks in both arenas. And I have a passion for exquisitely designed coats (although believe my RL closet contains more coats than SL). My preference is for EGA (Elegant Goth Aristocrat), which is still uncommon in SL, so it's quite a hunt... and a fun hobby.

When I can, theatre and music as well -- the Shakespearean theatre in SL has been tremendous, and I've never been disappointed with music events (concerts, live, and even DJ).

I also collect absinthe in RL, and therefore try and collect all absinthe in SL as well.

I have a... scientific... interest in poisons and medicinals, and therefore have an (unfinished) apothecary in SL.

Very interesting everyone. Now I just realized I forgot a few. I love nature and my house is filled with plants and flowers.

One good ear job by a plastic surgeon and I would be my SL character. (Almost.) ;)

P.S. If buying and selling pertains to your hobby then it's okay to mention it. :)

I mean, I am the same person so the same sorts of things move me in both worlds.

But my activities are pretty much different in both. Maybe once some of the novelty of those things wears off more, the two lives will converge more. But I am not sure I want it to.

(I am talking about athletic things: other than dancing I was never athletic in RL.)

Oh and yes flying is always fun. :) (avatar flight not vehicular)

Some of my interests cross over, but for the most part I try to do in SL things I can't do in RL for whatever reason. I love aircraft particularly helicopters in RL, but can't fly for several reasons. So I fly them in SL. The same can be said for my various roleplaying activities. Even things like shopping take on a different element not possible. IN RL I couldn't ever have a closet with 11,000 dresses and pairs of shoes that I can change at a moments notice.

The things that I can easily do in RL, dancing, socializing, clubbing, I don't do much of in SL.

My only real activity that I do in both places is dance. Everything else is SL is pretty much stuff I do not do in RL - either cuz I do not want to or can't

I'm rather like this too - I do the things in SL that I should like to be able to do in RL - I always wanted a pony and couldn't have one, so I have 2 in SL. I like ballet, skating, gymnastics, sailing and all kinds of sports, but I'm not much good at them in RL, so I do these things in SL. A kind of wish fulfillment, I suppose.

Cats make me sneeze in RL so I have one in SL. :)

I could have a dog in RL so I do not have one in SL.

Never rode a horse in RL, so I have one in SL.

etc.
