I dropped him a male starter kit earlier- hope it works out  I hope you got a reply. I felt sorry for the OP and sent some skins with a cover IM explaining that I'd seen his post. Offer rejected wthout any reply. Guess he can stick with the underpants as far as I'm concerned.  |

The two biggest questions I had when I started were "How tall am I?" and "How do I take this black underwear off?"
Those questions aren't in the FAQ, as far I could see. (laughs) The Girl Next Door skin (which I started with) has them painted on, which is fine I guess, although it does make some outfits look weird. I tried taking off the skin, which of course doesn't work, but it was a while before I understood that. It might be nice for the newbie outfits to come with a little explanatory note... about skins and shapes and non-removable underwear. Something like the note below (which I wrote just now). Anyone's free to use this note if they like. Just don't put my name on it if you change it. Your avatar is made up of four elements: shape, skin, hair, and clothes. Clothes are easy to change or take off, but you must *always* have a shape and skin. You can't take off your shape or skin. You can only change it by putting on another shape or skin. Some of the default skins have painted-on underwear which can't be removed or altered. The only way to get rid of it is to put on a new skin. You can buy skins or find them in the freebie areas. You can also find other shapes and hair. If you try to edit your appearance, but can't, it's probably because your skin or shape can't be modified. Someone created your skin, and some creators don't want their work altered. If you want to play around with your body's appearance, you will need to find skins and shapes that can be modified. You also might try to modify your hair and find it looking very strange, as if something is oozing out of your head. This happens because there are two kinds of hair: the hair you can "grow" and hair you can buy or find. The second kind is more like a wig, and all the newbie avatars come with hair like that. You can take off (or detach) the wig-like hair, and you'll probably look bald. If you try to edit your appearance and change your hair *that* way, you'll be able to form it and shape it with the sliders in the Edit Appearance window. Most people don't do that. Most people go find hair they like and use it. Some people go bald. It's your choice. Your eyes work in a way similar to your hair: your avatar probably came with a set of eyes that you can put on and take off. To find other shapes, skins, or hair, click Search, and type "skins" or "shapes" or "hair" under the Places tab. There are freebies in the newbie areas (where you first came into Second Life) and in many of the newbie-friendly stores. |

Those aren't the "default skin". They are from the newbie point of view, which is what's relevant in this case...they have a choice of default avs, each with its own default skin, when they come in-world. You're talking about something most of them won't even know about until weeks or maybe months into their SLife. _____________________

If you just joined, your original skin should not have underpants on it, unless you are on the teen grid. Try creating new underpants and setting the texture to the "transparent" texture in the library. Some of the new skins for new residents feature helpful little underwear painted on the skin. Yay new residents. Re: where find skin: look in your inventory, look for Library: there are different avatars in there that are free, including a neat dragon, and various male (and female) avatars and skin. Plus hair. And clothing. And it is the default skin in the sense that it is the "default skin" that the newbies are arriving in - the newbies are entering using the new avatars that were created (depending on where they enter, they should be getting the new avatar if they enter through SL main page). _____________________
