Okay,
I went and age verified. It took no time at all.
Which makes me wonder, is it even verifying anything?
Or am I simply that easy to look up that a computer can instantly find me and return a result.

Does this Age Verification actually verify things? |

I think it does Colette. I was getting a failure trying to verify by last 4 of my SSN until I remembered that my first name is not spelled correctly in the SSA database. Once I entered the alternate spelling it verified immediately.

I couldn't verify for a while, but apparantly that was caused by my streetname having an accent in it. Making up a streetname verified me just fine.
My alt verified as a random person from the phonebook. It seems to accept whatever you throw at it (or for my country it does at least). |

Doesn't that seem backwards? |

I did the age verification but on my profile it still says "Not Age-verified". Is this the way it is supposed to be for now ?

so you couldn't verify with a non accent version of your actual address, but making up an address worked? Doesn't that seem backwards? The entire age verification process is backwards anyway . Credit card doesn't establish age but it does - reasonably - verify identity, age verification *could* verify age but can't verify identity. The only thing that would ever really work is a combination of the two.Lindens keep saying it's "beta" too but don't seem to know whether everyone will get to keep their current verification status or not. I think they did various adjustments in the first week though, relaxing matching requirements for non-US countries. To the point where it'll verify even on nonsense data last week at least. That was a bug. Age verification status was never supposed to show on your profile and the next RC update should have it removed from the profile entirely. Thanks Kitty ! ![]() _____________________

I did the age verification but on my profile it still says "Not Age-verified". Is this the way it is supposed to be for now ? There are two opposing JIRA's in on this already. Some don't want an indicator at all, some want that indicator to work accurately. Right now, no one is marked in their profile as "Age Verified". If you are age verified, it works with regard to age-restricted parcels (but only restricts to 50M above the terrain). But there is no way to check who is age verified or not other than to set up a test that requires them to enter an age-verified parcel at less than 50M above terrain height. _____________________
Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

I thought at one time they were going to offer to verify sex as well. Did this get dropped?

This isn't the 60's ![]() --------------- Gender was considered as one of those things you could display in the verified information details displayed idea of Robins. I do not know if that is still in consideration yet. Although I suppose if they allowed you to display your verified first name it would count as "verified gender" in 90%+ of cases. |

Well if one supposed reason Age verification exists is to discourage minors from lying to get into SL and engaging in relationships that include pixel sex, it seems stupid to not have an indicator that someone age verified or not. |

And this is a system that you feel confident in storing your identity? The Lindens already had my identity. They already have everyone's that posts here. It wasn't Integrity that messed up the payment file status indicator, after all. They weren't even in the picture at that time. |

I don't believe it's verifying anything.
When the Age Verification first entered public beta some weeks ago, I tried to verify, using my correct name, address and different kinds of IDs. Drivers license, passport, "SSN" number, ID number and what have you. All valid and correct information, but everything was rejected with an error message "Age Verification Failed". But they must have fixed or changed something since then. Today, after having read your post, I tried again. I entered name, address, D.O.B and drivers license number. All valid and correct. Today I was instantly successfully verified. But the point is that the drivers license database in my country is strictly restricted and confidential and certainly not available to any private company. So I simply do not believe they have been able to verify anything based upon my drivers license number. The most they have been able to verify is that my age according to the D.O.B. I entered is indeed over 18 ![]() |

Just thinking, but why not set things so that only verified adults can log on at all? No need for profile tags. If you are in world, you are an adult, which is the basic premise of Sl anyway, at least right now.

The eventual plan could be to allow kids into second life. And you will only age verify to go to places kids aren't allowed. the 3D internet wont be adults only and stuff.. |
