i wish they would just replace the whole sky. that gradient skin always bothered me. if you play some games with outdoor scenery such as RPG's, FPS's, and MMO's, you could compare and appreciate how much better some of them look. SL's sky just looks so fake...

It would be okay except for the fact that it's just too darn BIG.
And the water has changed too... in some areas it's much more transparent. Weird. |

The sun - not such a big deal. But it is like being on some other planet, with some other sun. ![]() |

So where's the geek place to change the sun?
Is it in the shaders in the program folders? Is there some viewer art that can be replaced? Are there some bytes to patch with a hex editor? _____________________

It looks like the sun in Dahlgren by Samuel Delany (at least according to the cover art on my edition). Gorgeous, but way too big.

How would I know? The new text/font "enhancement" is making me too dizzy to see anything.

They did not pull off a more realistic sun effect: It's too damn big (close) in the sky, and when it sets, the orange halo hangs on longer than it should and does not look natural.

No reason to look at the sun, the horizon, or the text.
The spaces in between the pixels still look alright. _____________________

Raymond, have you tried RenderGlow debug setting? I just want to make sure that the sun is too big whether RenderGlow is true or false. _____________________

I can't decide whether I should complain about the new sun or complain about another recent forum thread that was a complaint about people who complain in the forum.
Ok, actually, SL skies and the sun aren't very good. The moon is ok, though. One out of three ain't bad, I suppose, but I'd like a better sun. For those looking to get hardcore with their complaining please consider this: Hanes and Fruit of the Loom men's underwear typically sell for the same price yet the latter product is garbage compared to the former. Wanna get all steamed up? This could be your issue. |

Note to self - find new skin with severe sunburn and peeling and blistering spots. Hang out at Linden Village screaming in pain.
Or just get some sunblock to carry around. _____________________

It didn't bother me at all until this thread drew my attention to it.
Now I'm all like "Ahhhhhhhhhh change it back change it back change it BACK!" So it's all your fault. Hope you're happy. ![]() |

Anyone know of a way to change the sun back to how it was that is less technically demanding than learning C++ and compiling your own viewer?
The real sun only subtends an angle of a half degree. The horizon looks like garbage unless you have the fog ratio set to where it looks like you are in San Francisco. Now the sun looks bizarre and ugly, and the text is illegible if you don't use the smoked glass backdrops. _____________________

It looks like a nuclear weapon being detonated on the horizon. It's terrible. You noticed that too? I took this pic yesterday (before I read your message): http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=163407 The new sun is great for photography (another example), but bad for realism. |
