Hi!

I'm a student and I'm doing my thesis about Second Life and Luxury.
I'm looking for male avatars.
If you don't mind, could you answer this few questions available on the link below? Your opinion could help me a lot and is very important :)

Thank you so much :)

May I direct you to this thread? Perhaps the two of you could pool your results... :p

Luxury? like in soft beds and silk sheets? fat steaks and succulent exotic fruit.. bottles of vintage champagne?
its all an illusion anyway.. whether you live in a hobo tent or a palatial sea side villa...

define luxury..
define second life.. :D

Did you really just join SL? And you're doing a thesis on it?

Then do the important thing - go actually inworld. Explore. Spend money. Get a grip about what luxury means in here so you can formulate a reasonable thesis.

Or, better yet, pick a topic that is a little less sensitive about lab mice status. ;)

Tis also a very poorly done marketing survey and whoever hired you should really fire you :)

Nathalie, I'm not sure what you think a survey on luxury watches has to do with Second Life, but I suggest you take Novis's advice. The subject of your questionnaire suggests that you know very little about SL or its residents.

I also suggest you take a look at previous threads to understand that survey requests posted in the forums are not at all popular, and you would be well-advised to find a different way to conduct your research. I'm telling you this as nicely as I can, before things get ugly ;)

Hi :)

Thanks for the advices :)

Actually I spend a lot of my time on sl to understand and have the opinions of the lifers. And it is also a very interesting way to learn more.
I know that is sometimes boring for you and i'm sorry, but it's the only way to have something reliable to deal with.

For Novis Dyrssen : My first idea was to do a thesis about second life and to understand exactly what you are thinking about: what's luxury in second life and so on. But as in a practical college, I need to make a recommendation so it's impossible. Anyway, both are very interesting and allow me to learn a lot.

For those who think i'm a professional, it's a great compliment for a student in her last year :)

Thank you all for help :)

Just wanted to say, I looked at the survey and found a couple of things very odd.

1. There were no questions (that I saw) as to whether or not I am male or female in RL, and if I have a male or female persona in SL.

2. Most universities in the US require some kind of statement as to the intent of the survey, what specifically the research will be used for. In fact it is a major PITA to have to go through the process and deal with all the regulations associated with including people in your research. I did not see any such specific statement in your survey, but I am not familiar with how it’s done outside the US.

I, for example, am female in rl but have one male alt in sl. Your survey would not make clear if this is the type of person you are looking for or not.

Good luck in any case,

Ohh no please dont mistake me. I ddint say you were professional.

For one a professional would have tken the time to read the stickies and know that surveys are not suposed to go in this forum.

Secondly they would have taken the time to looks at the demographic of the SL forum versus SL as a whole.

Thirdly they wouldnt be hiding behind the appearance of a thesis when really they are doing market research.

I dont believe you are a student (and if you are your 'thesis' is both a discredit to you and the professor who signed off on this... given the ethical comittee these surveys have to go through before being allowed to be done) howver you are certainly no professional...

This is a very odd survey. The language may be making it more odd than intended, but still... I found myself answering questions that were clearly irrelevant because I'd never consider wearing a luxury watch in SL under any conditions.

Presumably luxury watches are just an example category (in which case, well... perhaps not the best choice of example), and that the specific watch is just a concrete example of that category (in which case I hope it's a *hypothetical* example--a less graceful hunk of metal I think I've never seen).

That said, it's not obvious (to me anyway) what the premise of the research could actually be. It evidently wasn't what I expected: that the "luxury market" in SL is inversely related to the RL affluence of the resident. Similarly, whenever I see an avatar wearing a business suit, I can't help but suspect that the person at the keyboard wears a fast food uniform in RL.

This, however, would probably not be the best strategy for marketing "luxury" goods.

Yeah, but I've not pretended to be a man for one yet, so I might go do this one.

You opened your SL account on 3/18/2009. You belong to no groups. You have no profile text or anything else.

Shenanigans.

Would *anybody* in their right mind be posting a survey in the forums using an identity with which they were already enjoying playing SL, rather than an alt?

And as a result you're sounding silly.
