Is it just me, or was Second Life somehow a more exciting and adventurous experience during the first 2 or so months after being born? I mean, sure we all look SO much better now, and we know SO much more about how to do things, but what have we lost in the process?

Walking the nude beaches, All Silly Puddy skin and super tight shoes. Still dancing from the club you just crashed out of, all dumb founded and confused.

In between scrounging for free clothes, and trying not to bang into everyone around you, there were those midnight romps in public places. The freedom. No care for how bad your newbie hair looked, or who you were playing with. Just hot hot times, baby! So rock and roll!

Those were the days. So uncomplicated. So hungry. So free.

What we lacked in pixels, we made up for in passion!

Let's hear it folks! Share your fond noob memories, and remember a simpler Second Life.

Oddly, its my first pair of actual bought boots that stick in my mind, more than my neko skin even. Actually earning enough cash to buy something not from a freebie box. Oh and the frustration of hunting for first land (that dates me a bit)

The joys of my first 512 parcel. Until I got prim hungry two weeks later.

My First Land home with friendly neighbors from Wales and Italy. That's when the "this is so cool!" clicked.

I don't have a specific moment. Just one day deciding this place was fun, and pulled out the plastic and forked over my $9.95 to go premium. However I did win big on a "Sploder that very night.......

Ahh, yes... the newbie days! :D

My favorite newbie experience was leaving the welcome area and seeing how big the place was, and how much stuff there was to see. I spent the first couple of weeks just flying around.

I still do that often... though now I use a blimp or a hot-air balloon. :)

Hmmm. In my third month, and it just keeps getting better and better. I still don't feel like I've really found my footing yet. But almost.

You are definitely slutty in the best possible definitions of the word. Dirty, hot, and a little scary, but in a good way. I'd like do awful things to you, but I'm pretty sure you'd snap me in two like a twig and leave me cross-eyed, dizzy and confused. I'm giving you a 9.8, tied for the top rating ever given. Almost off-the charts slutty. Shame on you and congratulations. -- Trout

I miss the shopping in the beginning. Now I have almost everything I need or want, and shop only every now and then. I remember looking for my first good skin and discovering RaC, buying my first prim hair, loving bling just as much as I can't stand it now. <sigh> Yes, those were the days...way back in February.

Ah yes, the newbie days. Very exciting, spending a good portion of my free time inside SL. March-July I was almost nonstop in SL. Examined both my dark side and my artistic side (being in SL allowed me to show my RL art to more than just my cats). Then everything collapsed and I am almost never in SL anymore as Sonia. I miss being able to have my art up, but I examined the dark side too closely to be able to continue Sonia's life in SL, but the art is tied up with Sonia, and so . . . those were the days. When puppies were puppies, and goldfish were 1d very flat squashed pictures on very small boxes.

My first SL car, my first race - getting the car up to almost 500 miles per hour. Driving with friends, driving for hours with "the thing" next to me:

Exploring, visiting Yankee Stadium: , or Mars

Those were the days.

Nothing so wild...

...Sitting in the camping gazebo at Calla's for free hair, chatting with the other campers, making friends...

...Finding the Map for the first time, locating an interesting looking place and teleporting there. I wound up at a lovely private residence on a beach. I walked the lonely beach at dawn and watched the sun rise, while dolphins played in the surf...

...My first clumsy experience with SLex...

...Discovering Mr. Lee's Greater Hong Kong (from the wonderful Neal Stephenson novel "Snow Crash";) had a counterpart in SL...

...Discovering the joys of ballroom dancing...

...Finding a wonderful community of people here on the SL Forums...

...Standing on the beach, talking with Bell about everything from the escorting business to buying land...

...Flying my psychedelic jet-propelled boomerang with its Mark 1 Toilet Bowl pilot's chair around my friends at a rooftop pool party...

...Getting deformed and orbited by a griefer while teaching my first class in SL...

Five months now, and a thousand memories.

Nothing...and I mean NOTHING can beat your first AO.

Remember that? The feeling of such massive, unwashed relief that you no longer staggered and toddled about like some unbalanced, tweaky clown?

Oh...I felt SOOO superior, then...in my helmet-haired, silly-putty complexioned skin!

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Thanks for the link. Until I went looking for a early pic, and found the one from the first day, I had forgotten that I had ever tried to make clothes. Yes, that blue thingie on my upper body was something I had made while still on orientation island. I had also made the shape. Ah well. A different second life I could have lead. Shirts, shapes, building, showing my art, etc.

Oh yes...you are so right! I found some thing called Sexy Walk Just Wear It or something. So awesome feeling. But NOTHING compared to my first good hair. I was out with a guy, and he offered to buy it for me. I put it on and went out dancing with him that night. The hair mixed with the really quality animations at the club made my AV come to life for the first time. It's alive!! lol

I did a lot of lucky chair hopping as a near-noob and one night at Talisman (PG zone) I showed up in silks for no particular reason. Talisman had 5 chairs giving out trans gowns in a big circular room.

A couple began teasing me about the inappropriateness of silks in PG zones, which began an 'oh yeah? i'll show you inappropriate!' contest where we each put on the weirdest stuff we owned. We started dancing our weirdest dances. The girl of the couple put on a huge scimitar sticking through her body. We put on wings and began dance-flying. I was calling the chairs, and we asked that everyone who showed up dance and wear ball gowns. We handed out gowns and dances to newer noobs who didn't have them yet. I still have pics of the guy avatar in a gown and thigh-high latex boots that I gave him from Fallin Angel *laughs*

And he's still one of my best SL friends.

I knew exactly who I was within the first few steps I took on Orientation Island. But my initial experience after wandering round the island was 'Is this it? Surely there's more.' And of course, I soon discovered there was more - a heck of a lot more.

I remember as a 'noob' I streaked round the Edge club and Sanctuary Rock. Nothing's changed - I still do things like that from time to time!

WOW..... lets see, under 100 regions then, far fewer avs hehe. I explored a LOT. The old Welcome Area at Ahern, with the shooting gallery next door. The balloon ride yet often no one there.

I found the old Welcome Area much friendlier when people were there and gained a lot of knowledge from them. I met some Lindens, that was when they were humans hehe. I also try hard never forget the first people I met.

There were a few classes given, mainly at old Stage 4. I actually won a noob Show and Tell there hehe. I do remember the absolute lack of questions like "How do I make money?" I do remember the patience people had teaching me to build also.

I guess I could go on and on but just remembering is special.

All very true, I remember the sense of wonder when I first had my own plot of land, with a house and furniture. I would stand there for ages just looking out of the windows.

Not long after I started, I was flying around a much smaller SL, and saw some construction in progress. I saw two avs working and chatting together. They were working on the roof of a building. It was a part of what is now commonly known as the Shangri-La build in Dore. Having just recently immigrated from TSO, I was really impressed with the level of detail in just the pieces of roof these two avs were manipulating. At that point, I decided that SL was a place I had to explore some more "just to see what they build next".

Uploading my first texture to make clothing with--knowing nothing about templates or optimal sizes or ANYTHING, just uploading a .jpg of brocade fabric I'd picked up from a Google search and wearing it as a jacket. It looked . . . well, pretty bad, but it was my first item of made-it-myself clothing!

My first prim hair and the AO I still use in girlshape, thanks to my darling Miles Montgolfier.

Getting a folder of free dances so I could dance at Avalon.

Hanging out with a couple of fellow Duranies, gossiping about folks we knew, sitting in patio furniture on the flat roof of someone's house.

Ah, those were the days indeed, first emerging in this strange new world.
