Why, o why, do experienced SL merchants who simply must know better persist in having these things around?
Same reason people install software like ZoneAlarm, and then complain to me that they can't print. They DON'T KNOW any better.

Some of those things are actually WORN by people.

Others may be coming from a prim with a sensor up to 96m away from you. Might have NOTHING to do with the store.. and everything to do with the paranoid neighbors

No, shop owners really do pay DB for this spammer.

I used to tell shopkeepers that they were just spamming customers. Often I got "I'm sorry, it's this other store", but often I got "oh yeh, you're probably running a bot trying to pwn my stuff" instead. Yes, really.

I've always assumed that these were put out ONLY by experienced SL merchants - folks who learned how to deploy a store in the era of copybot, and haven't been deep into SL since then - just drop some new content into their stores every once in a while.

Copybot protectors were *never* useful. Only the very first version of copybot was susceptible to "!QUIT", by the time the copybot protectors showed up copybot was already ignoring them. LL should ban them from the grid.

Umm. So explain these objects:

Copyright Protection Version 3.030940a: "http://slurl.com/secondlife/REDGRAVE Womens Fashion/196/199/42"

Copyright Protection Version 3.113273a: "http://slurl.com/secondlife/REDGRAVE Mens Fashion/35/201/40"

I hate to pick on that particular destination because I've seen the same thing at other pretty with-it locations. But I mean... well, you know.

I am totally confused whenever I go to Armidi...and if you are looking for a particular hair at Gurl6, it's impossible without going through each one, I can't figure out a rhyme or reason/pattern to that place :(

Yea i no longer go to Armidi because the place is designed whacky.

And Gurl6 is uber annoying. I have been there three times and will not ever be going again unless I feel like staring at wall to wall pics of hair for 30 minutes trying to find one i like.

it helps if you turn up your draw distance, nublet.

bah i keep my draw distance higher than yours.

The hamster spinning the wheel in your CPU box can't even handle basic shaders!

Zone alarm stops printers from being seeing over the network?

Is that why my lappie can't see the printer on my primary machine??!!

Speaking of redesigning the store, Six is in the process of doing that. The store is still open, but I am hopeful that she really does make it easier to find particular types of hair.

Organizing them by style and alphabet would be great.

Also actually spacing the store out would help a great deal. Right now its rather wall to wall 2004 style shopping and the texture density is off the scale.

I can't believe she hasn't received numerous complaints over the years

ZoneAlarm blocks all kinds of stuff that people need on a normal office environment. What it blocks seemsto change over time, and it's been over three years since I looked at it, but when I did I couldn't find anything necessary it was doing that couldn't be handled by even the IP firewall in NT4.0, properly configured. It's 75% snake oil and 75% crack.

Honestly, she has so much hair, she should be giving ETD a run for the money, but the times i was at gurl6 the place only had 1 or 2 people there. I would not be surprised if it is because of the horrible way things are displayed and organized.

That store needs at least a 150m x 150m space divided and organized properly so that people don't teleport there, experience mass sensory overload and TP out.

Being that I have gone more often, the store is often quite full with people, usually at least 15. She does quite well, I imagine, and she's very sweet to give newbies the choice of any hair in the store. It buys long term goodwill.

She has a ton of old styles that need retiring, however. She doesn't use a vendor and sells everything out of the prim, which requires about 16-20 textures to load over and over again (the color packs). A vendor like Miriel's would be sooooo handy in her case, but I can understand why she would choose that method, for accounting purposes. Plus the only thing that can go wrong is that the money transaction times out.

Just don't forget to set up the Windows firewall, at least when you're not at home or otherwise have a firewall-router between you and the internet. :)

About CopyBot protectors: This has probably been asked a million times and I just never paid attention: Why, o why, do experienced SL merchants who simply must know better persist in having these things around? I've stumbled on multiple examples lately, at established and respected stores. I mean, WTF?

I had a problem for a little while where some idiot was running one of those on a different parcel, in a completely different sim, well over 100m away (boy was that a b!tch to track down) and it caused the asinine !quit messages to pop up on MY store parcel! I AR'd it but never got a response from LL. After some time, it eventually went away, but I think it's because the person who owned it moved away.

I wonder how often this happens to other people since it happened to me.

It happened to us on Tigger and it took three of us flying all over all the nearby sims with scanners for a day and a half to find the damn thing hidden in a Linden tree. The owner was willing to take it down when we explained that we'd had complaints from our customers in our store, because they thought we were the guilty party.

The way it renames itself on every call is downright evil. It can't be detected by a script until you're right on it, though ironically it COULD be detected by a bot. :(

Well, she did, sorta - flex and non-flex. She put all the really old stuff off to one side, and stuff that didn't have any flex at all to it (updos and cropped short cuts, usually). New stuff just kept developing, though, at a rapid pace, and it just kind of got mishmashed in since most of it used flexiprims. Then she had the new products section in front. But still, the really old stuff just needs retiring, unless it is a non-flex pixie cut or pin curl bob.

As for Armidi... you have to understand the different brands to buy stuff in there. But now that they've got the shoparmidi.com website, you don't need to actually go :)
