From: Chas Connolly This is way too much undeserved publicity for a company that now caters to people with too much money and too little taste. Can we end it now, please. Yeah but any thread that doesn't discuss VAT is a blessing. For me it's a case of, being tired of their incessant in your face advertising. I like being able to escape them and their garbage here. If I never see a RL company here, and so far I've managed to avoid them, I won't complain.

From: Brenda Connolly I can't recall the film, but there was a line along this: "Hey, is that a Members Only Jacket?" "Yes, it is". "What are you, the last member?" "Shallow Hal." P2

RL big companies here will never make me feel threatened... because one can only do so much with cardboard cut-outs....

From: Bradley Bracken I've been trying to come up with a question to create a new VAT thread. I'm feeling left out since I haven't started one yet. "If I sell my body in SL to ageplaying furries, do I have to provide VAT info to my clients, and more importantly, how will that affect my RL relationship with my gambling griefer husband?"

I had to see the sim for myself. Its almost as pointless as the Playboy sim. The corporate types need to learn that if you create a presence in SL, give the visitors a reason to hang around a bit. More merchandise, a few interactive things to do, and slip in the odd freebie. My visit wasn't a complete waste of time. My babbler did a fairly adequate translation of Italian.

hmm I just went back there for a double take because someone mentioned there were indeed items for sale, I don't mean to offend the designers but my God, they took on a corporate project and are making clothing for Armani, and I can honestly say that I could have done better with my eyes closed and within 60 seconds. Not to mention they are charging L$250 up for CRAP! I am just totally shocked, loved the phantom doors btw LOL

I can think of two examples where I feel RL companies have done the *right* thing as far as getting their stuff produced effectively in SL. Coca-Cola. I dun mean their sim presence, but their policy on people using their copyrights in SL. This encourages people to see their branding in-world without Coca-Cola dropping a single Linden. They have the sort of branding, to, dat people opt to buy, in much the same was as, oh, Harley Davidson or other "lifestyle brands." Plus, it means they dun hafta scour the grid looking for copyright violators. Kona Bay. One few know about: Robin Sojourner has started to make shirts using Kona Bay fabrics with their approval. This gets their patterns into the hand of an experienced designer that will preserve their copyright, while providing Robin with their materials for use in-world for clothing. A win-win. Mari

Mari pontiac comes to mind, when it aint laggy and littered with trash it's sorta a cool sim (though the music blows) and playboy IS shaped like a bunny (though hef in a free sex area would be HEE larious!)

Coca-Cola. Yep, these guys sure seemed to "get it"... so I'm really puzzled what happened later. Even their "Coke machine" contest had potential--they knew they weren't really selling virtual cans of virtual Coke--but then... well, ya know what happens when you leave a Coke open overnight? It's like that. From: someone Kona Bay. One few know about: Robin Sojourner has started to make shirts using Kona Bay fabrics with their approval. And more "win": by supporting a real SL talent with a reputation for generosity and fair-dealing, they've encouraged others to follow the same path. That's a win for us all.
