Related, easy way to know who has you in their picks:

* find the URL to your parcel (it's listed at the bottom of the page)
* search for link:URL-goes-here

For instance, all the people who have Ahern in their picks:
http://secondlife.com/app/search/search.php?hl=en&q=link%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fworld.secondlife.com%2Fplace%2Fe6318930-2e74-a8b3-1601-b6ff292d8e44&s=People

um brain fuzzy

bottom of what page?

call me confused LOL

Me too. I'm not sure where I'm suppose to see the list of those who have me as their links.

Sowwies :o. Should have been more specific :).

When you search for your parcel in the new search and click the result to see the page. At the bottom there you'll see: "Link to this page: http://world.secondlife.com/place/etc".

The http://etc URL is the one you need to copy.

Then you search for link:http://world.etc

Got that far with no problem. Not sure how that tells who has me in their picks though.

If I'm reading it right, after you have found the URL, you then paste THAT into the search bar, and should be able to see it in everyone's profile who has it.

Eep :o. I'll try with a step-by-step (and sorry for taking your thread semi-off topic :o):

* open the new Search / All and set it to "Places"
* search for your parcel (Example: Ahern)
* click the result to see the actual listing
* at the very bottom of that page you'll see "Link to this page:" followed by the URL
* change the category back to Any
* type in link: and paste the URL right after

It should look like:
link:http://world.secondlife.com/place/xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

The new search still seems to be missing some people's profile, and it wouldn't show those have opted out of having their profile shown in the new search as well, but neither of those two is adding incoming links to you either.

My new alt Puppet Hanfoi has added y'all to her picks. Puppet Hanriot will take over when she hits 10. Reciprocation would be appreciated, but don't feel obligated if you don't want to - it's kinda fun gaming the system to help out the little businesses.

I'm having a few system problems atm - but am gradually "picking" you all up. Be grateful if you can send me landmarks when you have the time - so I can check.

I think this is a great idea.

Just added one of your places to my picks HoneyBear (btw, I love WRONG stuff).

If anyone has any spare picks space left, please add one of my places (SLURLS below), then IM me with your SLURL/LM and I'll do the same for you, till I'm full up :)

I probably should add that this should be done by mutual agreement that each person actually likes the other ones place!

I'll be honest, I don't think trading picks is a very good idea. Picks should be places you like, an acknowledgement for the creator and owner of a store you like, while trading picks is just random, the first 10 guys to answer your call will be picked and climb up to the top of the search.

Later you're going to curse LL for a poor search system, when actually you're gaming it right now.

Did everybody check that all the guys you just picked have very high quality content in their stores, no reselling, no content thivery, etc? Do they actually deserve to be on top of the new search? That's where they'll end up if they trade enough picks, and pretty soon you're going to realize that you can't find anything you're looking for...

(Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the people in this thread are resellers and don't deserve to be up there, all I'm saying is that nobody really checked if they do, and that's not right imho.)

I have to agree that picks should be places you like, not just places you want to help and never shop at... I think my picks are my Family, and soon my shop, and maybe a couple references of my work.

I'm all for trading picks if you actually shop at the places, but if you never head there then I think it's silly.. like if you're a female human av with a pick to someplace with only male furry av stuff.. thats just odd

And as said.. it's gaming the system and isn't really fair.. sure you're trying to even it out between the ones with 'legitimate' techniques vs 4000 alts but.. still not fair in my opinion... if they get rid of the picks bit for search then hey, sure, gets your name out there..but I'm against gaming the search in any way.

Do you feel happier about the stores or places that are paying people to put them in their picks? Or the ones that make it a contest? Or the ones who are off creating dozens of alts with picks to their store or venue?

All of the above is already happening and will only become more and more commonplace.

LL replaced a system that cost money to be gamed (camping) and one that made it blatantly obvious who was gaming it (just look for camping chair or green dots) with one that just requires a negliable amount of set-up time to be gamed perpetually at no cost with no real visible signs. The new search was doomed before it was even implemented.

I'd rather trade links with the people in this forum, who care enough about actually staying on top of the game, rather than see people be paid to put links they could care less about in their picks. At least this way, it stays "in the family" so to speak.

Blaming others never fixed anything. The only way for me to stop ruining the system is to stop myself doing it. I'll take responsibility for my own actions and I already did my part. A few L$'s are not worth it.

I will never agree to those who will break the "rules" just because they can (and because others do it too).

Find me the rule that's being broken. All this is, when you break it down to it's purest form, is a simple link exchange on websites. It's not gaming SL, it's utilizing a tool that was developed 5 or more years ago, for increasing traffic to your website. SL presented us with the search engine tool, and now it is up to us to utilize it as best we can. The MOST that can be created here, per account, is 10 links. This is far more ethical than you're making it out to be.

Honeybear, I hope you know that I'm not against you, nothing personal, I just don't like the idea, cause imho it takes us another step closer to total chaos and anarchy. We can argue about the size of that step, and you're right, it's probably not a big deal, but I still think we're going in the wrong direction.

I know you're only trying to balance the system, but you're punishing those who SHOULD be in your picks, people who spent weeks, months, etc, to create content for you. How will you acknowledge them?

Are you using the Picks tab the way it was ment to be? No. I can't break it to a more pure form, than that.

LL's intention was to help those who create top quality content, by giving us a tool to make them climb higher in the search. You're using the picks to help yourself to climb higher in the search. I don't think it's ethical, so I won't do it, but hey, who am I to stop you?

First of all, I don't have a store so I really couldn't care less about blaming anyone.

Second, the only way to stop people from ruining the system is to get the system to a point where even LL has to admit it's a miserable failure and shelf it. Expecting some people to not abuse whatever they can get away with is a fantasy. The more broken search gets, the more people will complain about it and the more chance LL will listen a few years down the road.

I don't think you'll find anyone in this thread and others like it who wouldn't want a search that simply works without gaping holes, or sanctions for those who do abuse the system, but as usual LL picked the "ooo shiny, we wants it!" solution over a sane one.

You're contradicting yourself, you say you don't blame anyone, then you start to blame LL for their bad system, by saying that it's LL's fault that people are not using the options as they were intended to be used? You can't be serious about that.

You also misunderstood me. I don't expect others to stop gaming the search. I just said that I won't do it just because I can.

Missed. As you probably know we only get 1 IBL (the profile) even if we use all picks on ourselves, using all picks on myself won't help me in the search. On the other hand, I am in the middle of uploading about 500 different skins, shapes, eyes, etc this week cause I rented a new parcel, and I'm using the picks to tp to the appropriate places in my store. Check it in about a week, and you'll se that all those will be gone. Actually, half of them is already gone, just the search didn't update itself.

ROFL, my monitor thanks you for the coffee now on it.

I think it's a great idea, business owners supporting fellow business owners. It's an honest attempt at utilizing the system.
